Dielectric and impedance studies of DBSA doped polyaniline/PVC composites

        Asma B. Afzal,M. Javed Akhtar,Muhammad Nadeem,M.M. Hassan 한국물리학회 2010 Current Applied Physics Vol.10 No.2

Polyaniline (PANI) was doped with dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid (DBSA) and then mixed with PVC by solution blending method to prepare DBSA doped PANI (PAND)/PVC composites. FTIR spectroscopy indicates the strong dipole–dipole interaction between the individual components of the composites. The ac electrical properties of the synthesized composites were investigated by complex impedance spectroscopy in the frequency range of 0.5–106 Hz at room temperature. Both dielectric loss factor and permittivity increase with the decrease of frequency exhibiting strong interfacial polarization at low frequency. Addition of PAND in PVC reduces the charge trapping centers by increasing the number of conducting channels participating in the relaxation process; hence an increase in conductivity is observed.

Sustaining Low-Carbon Emission Development: An Energy Efficient Transportation Plan for CPEC

( Asma Zubedi ),( Zeng Jianqiu ),( Qasim Ali Arain ),( Imran Memon ),( Sehrish Khan ),( Muhammad Saad Khan ),( Ying Zhang ) 한국정보처리학회 2018 Journal of information processing systems Vol.14 No.2

Climate change has become a major challenge for sustainable development of human society. This study is an attempt to analyze existing literature to identify economic indicators that hamper the process of global warming. This paper includes case studies based on various countries to examine the nexus for environment and its relationship with Foreign Direct Investment, transportation, economic growth and energy consumption. Furthermore, the observations are analyzed from the perspective of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and probable impact on carbon emission of Pakistan. A major portion of CPEC investment is allocated for transportation. However, it is evident that transportation sector is substantial emitter of carbon dioxide (CO2) gas. Unfortunately, there is no empirical work on the subject of CPEC and carbon emission for vehicular transportation. This paper infers that empirical results from various other countries are ambiguous and inconclusive. Moreover, the evidence for the pollution haven hypothesis and the halo effect hypothesis is limited in general and inapplicable for CPEC in particular. The major contribution of this study is the proposal of an energy efficient transportation model for reducing CO2 emission. In the end, the paper suggests strategies to climate researchers and policymakers for adaptation and mitigation of greenhouse gases (GHG).

Laying Off Versus Training Workers: How Can Saudi Entrepreneurs Manage the COVID-19 Crisis?

Asma RAIES,Mohamed BEN MIMOUN 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.4

This study aims to determine theoretically the best workers layoff/training strategy that entrepreneurs should apply to manage the COVID-19 crisis successfully. It also examines the impacts of the Saudi government’s emergency measures on firm performance. The paper develops a theoretical framework in which the optimal control technics is applied to model the entrepreneur’s hiring, layoff, and training behaviors. The results show that, during the current COVID-19 pandemic, the entrepreneur should first lay off the less productive workers to reduce labor costs. As more and more inefficient workers quit and profit increases, the entrepreneur starts expanding his activity and training workers. In the long run, only the training activity allows the firm efficiency to grow at a constant rate. This finding suggests that the key to long-run economic recovery in Saudi Arabia will rely on training, innovation, and adaptability to the new digital environment. The paper also shows that the Saudi government initiative of covering 60% of salaries for the small- and medium-sized entrepreneurs during the COVID-19 pandemic will enhance training activities in small- and medium-sized enterprises and improve their efficiency in both the short and long run. This policy will also prevent Saudi entrepreneurs from laying off half of their staff.

A New Convolution Approach for the Time-delay Identification of Systems with Arbitrary Entries

Asma Karoui,Kaouther Ibn Taarit,Moufida Ksouri 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2017 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.15 No.6

In this paper, an online delay identification approach of continuous-time linear systems with unstructuredentries is achieved via a new algebraic technique. The arbitrary input and output trajectories are chosen with closeand abundant crossing zero. Initial conditions and static disturbances are taken into account in the design of theidentification approach. The proposed method is based on a distributional algebraic technique and a convolution approach. A proposed theorem is hence enounced to identify a single time-delay of such systems. The effectiveness ofthe proposed approach is demonstrated by an illustrative example. The obtained results show the high performancesof the proposed time-delay identification approach in severe operation conditions of the considered system.

Phytochemical Screening, Phenolic Content, and Anti-Inflammatory Effect of Foeniculum vulgare Seed Extract

        Asma Cherbal,Mouna Bouabdallah,Saliha Hireche,Rachid Desdous,Mouna Benhalla 한국식품영양과학회 2023 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.28 No.2

Medicinal plants are promising sources of natural substances with biological functions and several drugs have been developed from traditional medicine. This study aimed to determine the chemical components of a hydromethanolic extract from Foeniculum vulgare seeds. Total phenolic, flavonoid, and flavonol contents were assessed, and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis was performed. To investigate the anti-inflammatory activity of F. vulgare seed hydromethanolic extract, its effects on protein denaturation, protease activity, membrane stabilization, and heat-induced hemolysis in red blood cells were evaluated in vitro. F. vulgare seed extract showed significant inhibition of protein denaturation (35.68±0.4%), protease activity (58.09±0.1%), and heat-induced hemolysis in red blood cells (9.67±0.3%) at concentrations of 200, 250, and 200 mg/mL, respectively, compared to the reference drug indomethacin (P<0.001). This remarkable anti-inflammatory activity may be attributable to the abundance of flavonoids in the F. vulgare seed extract. GC-MS confirmed the presence of linalool and fatty acids (palmitic and oleic acids), which have potential anti-inflammatory activities. Therefore, the hydromethanolic extract of F. vulgare seeds may be a valuable anti-inflammatory candidate in the years ahead.

Real Exchange Rate Misalignment in Pakistan: An Application of Regime Switching Modelㅎ

Asma FIAZ,Nabila KHURSHID,Ahsan SATTI,Muhammad Shuaib MALIK,Wasim shahid MALIK 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.12

This study investigates the key determinants of exchange rate (RER) misalignment for the period 1991 to 2020. The BEER technique has been used to estimate the degree of the equilibrium exchange rate. To explore the actual exchange rate misalignment and to assess the behavior of variables that are different in different regimes of undervaluation and overvaluation, the nonlinear technique of Markov regime-switching (MSM) was applied. The mean and variance of each regime are highly significant and show that undervaluation episodes have a low mean (116.139) and more volatility (1.229) while overvaluation episodes have a high mean (126.732) with less volatility (0.871). The findings show that MSM accurately identifies exchange rate misalignment in both regimes as separate incidents of overvaluation and undervaluation. Results further depict that misalignment of the RER is affected by terms of trade, net foreign assets, interest differential, government investment, and consumption decision. Results recommend that if policymakers want to use the exchange rate as a policy tool, they must first consider the drivers of the equilibrium exchange rate. As a result, any deliberate actions to address exchange rate misalignment must focus on the underlying fundamentals that drive the exchange rate.
