A high-efficiency, reproducible somatic embryogenesis system for strawberry cultivar Chandler was developed. Thirty-one somatic embryos per explant (max no.) were recorded in leaf discs which were cultured on medium containing MS salts + B5 vitamins + 2% glucose + 4.0 mg l-¹TDZ (Thidiazuron) and incubated at 10 ± 1 ℃ under darkness for one week followed by three weeks under 16-h photoperiod. The scanning electron microscopic (SEM) ontogeny revealed the normal development of somatic embryos from globular to heart-shaped and dissection microscopy from torpedo-shaped to cotyledonary-stage embryos. The maximum germination percentage of 48% could be obtained on MS medium containing kinetin (1.0 mg l-¹) and the maximum survival percentage (79%) of plantlets after four weeks was found to be in the mixture of vermiculite, peatmoss, and soilrite (1:1:1). A high-efficiency, reproducible somatic embryogenesis system for strawberry cultivar Chandler was developed. Thirty-one somatic embryos per explant(max no.) were recorded in leaf discs which were cultured on medium containing MS salts+$B_5$ vitamins+2% glucose+4.0 mg $1^{-1}$TDZ(Thidiazuron) and incubated at $10{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ under darkness for one week followed by three weeks under 16-h photoperiod. This study aimed to describe the prevalence of comorbidities associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and their relation with relevant outcomes. A systematic review based on the PRISMA methodology was performed from January 2020 until July 2021. The MEDLINE, Lilacs, and Scielo databases were searched to identify studies related to COPD and its comorbidities. Observational studies on the prevalence of comorbidities in COPD patients and costs with health estimates, reduced quality of life, and mortality were included. Studies that were restricted to one or more COPD pain assessments and only specific comorbidities such as osteoporosis, bronchitis, and asthma were excluded. The initial search identified 1,409 studies and after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 20 studies were finally selected for analysis (comprising data from 447,459 COPD subjects). The most frequent COPD comorbidities were: hypertension (range, 17%–64.7%), coronary artery disease (19.9%–47.8%), diabetes (10.2%–45%), osteoarthritis (18%–43.8%), psychiatric conditions (12.1%–33%), and asthma (14.7%–32.5%). Several comorbidities had an impact on the frequency and severity of COPD exacerbations, quality of life, and mortality risk, in particular malignancies, coronary artery disease, chronic heart failure, and cardiac arrhythmias. Comorbidities, especially cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, are frequent in COPD patients, and some of them are associated with higher mortality.

Fermentation with filamentous fungi in a bioreactor is a complex dynamic process that is affected by flow conditions and the evolution of the rheological properties of the medium. These properties are mainly affected by the biomass concentration and the morphology of the fungus. In this work, the rheological properties of a fermentation with the fungus Beauveria bassiana under different hydrodynamic conditions were studied and the rheological behavior of this broth was simulated through a mixture of carboxymethyl cellulose sodium and cellulose fibers (CMCNa-SF). The bioreactor was a 10 L CSTR tank operated at different stir velocities. Rheological results were similar at 100 and 300 rpm for both systems. However, there was a significant increase in the viscosity accompanied by a change in the consistence index, calculated according to the power law model, for both systems at 800 rpm. The systems exhibited shear-thinning behavior at all stir velocities, which was determined with the power law model. The mixing time was observed to increase as the cellulose content in the system increased and, consequently, the efficiency of mixing diminished. These results are thought to be due to the rheological and morphological similarities of the two fungal systems. These results will help in the optimization of scale-up production of these fungi.
