      • Developing a Preliminary Hazard List (PHL) Analysis of Submerged Floating Railway

        The construction of Submerged Floating Railway is in conceptual design phase. It is important to identify and list relevant potential hazards and mishaps that may exist in the system. PHL (Preliminary Hazard List) Analysis can be used as a tool for the management to focus on hazardous areas in the system which requires more resources for hazard elimination or risk controlling to an accepted level. The aim of this paper is to set up a ground work for creating a complete Preliminary Hazard List for the total system and to facilitate Preliminary Hazard Analysis in evaluating design at the preliminary level. The scope of this study will be limited to 2 major components; tubes and foundation on seabed and the joining between them. This study initiates the listing of preliminary hazards related to the basic structure of Submerged Floating Railway, which can be further extended to sub-system levels for a complete set of PHL for the total system. Preliminary Hazard Analysis will be benefited by this resource to eliminate and control design faults during the preliminary design phase to ensure a more reliable and safer design.

        Effect of Citrus macroptera Fruit Pulp Juice on Alteration of Caspase Pathway Rendering Anti-Proliferative Activity against Ehrlich’s Ascites Carcinoma in Mice

        Citrus macroptera (Rutaceae) has long been used in folk medicine in Bangladesh. Considering the folkloric context, this study was aimed to scrutinize anti-proliferative activity of C. macroptera fruit pulp juice (CMFPJ) against Ehrlich’s ascites carcinoma (EAC). The anti-proliferative capacity of CMFPJ was investigated and confirmed primarily using MTT assay. In vivo anti-proliferative aptitude of CMFPJ was investigated with 25, 50, and 100 mg/kg/day intraperitoneal (i.p.) treatment. Anti-proliferative efficacy of CMFPJ was assessed based on EAC growth inhibition. CMFPJ inhibited EAC growth in vitro in a dose-dependent manner. And the percentages of in vivo EAC growth inhibition were 19.53, 49.2, and 68.9% at 25, 50, and 100 mg/kg CMFPJ respectively. CMFPJ significantly induced expression of apoptosis regulatory genes caspase-8, caspase-9, cytochrome-c, and caspase-3. This considerable anti-cancer activity was perhaps due to combinatorial effect of lectin, polyphenols, and flavonoids present in CMFPJ.

        산악트램 객실 쾌적성 향상을 위한 저진동 랙앤피니언 추진장치 개발

        Rack & pinion traction system on mountain tram for climbing steep gradient tracks makes worse the comfortability of cabin because of the vibration generated by gear contact. That is the main reason for complaint of tourists. In this study, to reduce the vibration level of the previous rack&pinion traction system, a low vibration rack&pinion traction system was developed and test models were made so that it could be verified by a wheel-rail contact testing machine. The vibration level induced by the low vibration rack&pinion traction system was 20 times less than that by the conventional rack&pinion traction system. This low vibration rack&pinion traction system can be maintained easily because simple replacement of resilient body is possible. If this resilient rack&pinion traction system is applied to a mountain tram, the vibration and noise level in cabins is reduced drastically so that the comfortability of tourists can be increased. 급구배 등판을 위해 산악트램에서 적용하는 랙앤피니언 추진장치는 기어가 맞물리면서 발생하는 진동에 의해 객실 쾌적성을 저해하게되어 관광객들의 불만이 되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존 랙앤피니언 추진 장치의 진동을 저감하기 위해 저진동 랙앤피니언 추진장치를개발하고 시험체를 제작하여 차륜접촉 시험기를 통해 그 효과를 확인하였다. 기존 강체 랙앤피니언 추진장치에 비해 탄성 랙앤피니언추진장치는 진동이 1/20 이하로 저감됨을 확인할 수 있었고, 탄성체의 교체를 편리하게 하기 위해 착탈 방식으로 설계하여 유지보수성도 향상시켰다. 탄성 랙앤피니언 추진장치를 산악트램에 적용하였을 시에 진동을 획기적으로 감소시켜 객실 쾌적성 향상에 크게 기여할 수 있으리라 전망된다.
