Effect of dietary supplementation of garlic powder and phenyl acetic acid on productive performance, blood haematology, immunity and antioxidant status of broiler chickens

        Ismail I. E.,Alagawany M.,Taha A. E.,Puvača N.,Laudadio V.,Tufarelli V. 아세아·태평양축산학회 2021 Animal Bioscience Vol.34 No.3

Objective: The effect of garlic powder (GP) and phenyl acetic (PA) acid throughout the fattening period of broiler chickens on performance, blood parameters, immune, and antioxidant parameters as well as carcass traits was evaluated. Methods: A total of 210 day-old Cobb broiler chicks were randomly distributed into seven dietary treatments having five replications with six chicks per replicate. The first group (control) fed a basal diet without supplements, whereas the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th group were fed basal diet plus 0.25, 0.50, and 0.75 g GP/kg diet, respectively and the group 5th, 6th, and 7th were fed on the basal diet plus 0.25, 0.50, and 0.75 g PA/kg diet. Results: Broiler body weight and gain at 21 and 42 days were increased (p<0.05) with diets supplemented with GP and PA. Red blood cells and hemoglobin were improved in chickens fed diets enriched with GP. Broiler chickens received diets containing either GP or PA recorded the higher values (p<0.05) of total protein, globulin, high-density lipoprotein, immunoglobulin M (IgM), and IgG, superoxide dismutase and total antioxidant capacity; while, blood total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, aspartate-aminotransferase, and malondialdehyde were lowered (p<0.05) compared to control-diet. Liver and immune-related organs weight were improved (p<0.05) in broilers fed diet supplemented with GP and PA. Conclusion: Feeding of GP or PA in diet had positive effects on performance traits and immunological, antioxidant and physiological status of broilers. Thus, the use of tested feed additives as an eco-friendly alternative to antibiotics produced a positive effect on animal health. Histopathologic Biomarker Response of Clam, Ruditapes decussates, to Organophosphorous Pesticides Reldan and Roundup: A Laboratory Study

        Nahla S. El-Shenawy,Tarak I. S. Moawad,Mahmoud E. Mohallal,Ismail M. Abdel-Nabi,Inas A. Taha 한국해양과학기술원 2009 Ocean science journal Vol.44 No.1

Clam Ruditapes decussates was used as a biomonitoring organism to measure the potential impact of pollution. The present study investigated histological alterations of R. decussates following a long-term exposure to a sublethal-level of pesticides Reldan and Roundup. The clams were taken to the laboratory and kept for days to adjust to a continuous closed flow system with quality water control. After the adjustment period, clams were exposed either to sublethal concentrations of Reldan (0.6 μl L−1) or Roundup (1.1 μl L−1) for 90 days. Clams were taken to determine the histological damage at 30, 60 and 90 days. Most histological alterations were highly localized in the glandular cells of the gills, mantle tissues and digestive gland; secretions of glandular cells were found to be increased by increasing the time of exposure. Histopathological results showed the activation of resistance mechanisms that allowed the clams to survive under sublethal stresses. Thus, histological changes on localized tissues were sensitive and they have positive correlation to the time of exposure to the pesticides, suggesting that they may serve as biomarkers for Reldan and Roundup exposures. OFF-SET CRACK PROPAGATION ANALYSIS UNDER MIXED MODE LOADINGS

        A. E. ISMAIL,A. K. ARIFFIN,S. ABDULLAH,M. J. GHAZALI 한국자동차공학회 2011 International journal of automotive technology Vol.12 No.2

An assessment was carried out herein to study the eccentricity of cracks subjected to mixed-mode loadings. Several loading locations relative to a central line were selected to induce mixed-mode loadings, which were computed using a finite element method. An adaptive meshing technique was adopted during the simulation of crack propagation to ensure the singularity of stress at the tip of the crack. The stress intensity failure criterion was used and programmed, and the node splitting technique was used when the stress intensity factor reached the fracture toughness of the material to simulate crack propagations. It was found that large variations in the stress intensity factor were observed when off-set cracks were used, and that KII decreased when loading distance increased, but increased when the off-set crack distance was increased. Both crack eccentricity and loading distance played important roles in producing mixed-mode loading, compared to the influence of central cracks. Correction factors were introduced to modify the calculation of stress intensity factors under mixed-mode loadings. Simulations of crack propagation were also conducted to study the effects of crack eccentricities and loading distances. It was found that the crack length, the loading distance relative to the central crack and the crack eccentricity dominated calculations of the integrity of cracked structures.

FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTION OF HII REGIONS RADII AS A DISTANCE INDICATOR

        ISMAIL H. A.,ALAWY A. E.,TAKEY A. S.,ISSA I. A.,SELIM H. H. The Korean Astronomical Society 2005 Journal of The Korean Astronomical Society Vol.38 No.1

The frequency distribution of HII regions radii in our galaxy has been investigated. The correlation between the number of these regions and their radii has been re-determined, and could be represented by an exponential function. The size distribution of the HII regions in 10 spiral galaxies has been derived and combined with that of our galaxy to derive the distances of these galaxies. It has been found that the distances derived are in a good agreement with the published ones. The interstellar extinction in the galaxies has no influence on the distance estimate when using this geometrical method.

Effect of annealing treatment on the uniformity of CeO2/TiO2 bilayer resistive switching memory devices

        M. Ismail,A.M. Rana,S.-U. Nisa,F. Hussain,M. Imran,K. Mahmood,I. Talib,E. Ahmed,D.H. Bao 한국물리학회 2017 Current Applied Physics Vol.17 No.10

Bilayer CeO2/TiO2 films with high-k dielectric property were prepared by rf magnetron sputtering technique at room temperature. Effect of annealing treatment on resistive switching (RS) properties of bilayer CeO2/TiO2 films in O2 ambient at different temperature in the range of 350e550 C was investigated. Our results revealed that the bilayer films had good interfacial property at 500 C and this annealing temperature is optimum for different RS characteristics. Results showed that bilayer CeO2/TiO2 film perform better uniformity and reliability in resistive switching at intermediate temperature (i.e. 450 C and 500 C) instead of low and high annealing temperature (i.e. 350 C and 550 C) at which it exhibits poor crystalline structure with more amorphous background. Less Gibbs free energy of TiO2 as compared to CeO2 results in an easier re-oxidation of the filament through the oxygen exchange with TaN electrode. However, the excellent endurance property (>2500 cycles), data retentions (105 s) and good cycle-to-cycle uniformity is observed only in 500 C annealed devices. The plots of cumulative probability, essential memory parameter, show a good distribution of Set/Reset voltage.

      • Dynamics of perforated higher order nanobeams subject to moving load using the nonlocal strain gradient theory

        Alaa A. Abdelrahman,Ismail Esen,Cevat Özarpa,Ramy Shaltout,Mohamed A Eltaher,Amr E. Assie 국제구조공학회 2021 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.28 No.4

The goal of this manuscript is to develop a nonclassical size dependent model to study and analyze the dynamic behaviour of the perforated Reddy nanobeam under moving load including the length scale and microstructure effects, that not considered before. The kinematic assumption of the third order shear deformation beam theory in conjunction with modified continuum constitutive equation of nonlocal strain gradient (NLSG) elasticity are proposed to derive the equation of motion of nanobeam included size scale (nonlocal) and microstructure (strain gradient) effects. Mathematical expressions for the equivalent geometrical parameters due to the perforation process of regular squared pattern are developed. Based on the virtual work principle, the governing equations of motion of perforated Reddy nanobeams are derived. Based on Navier's approach, an analytical solution procedure is developed to obtain free and forced vibration response under moving load. The developed methodology is verified and checked with previous works. Impacts of perforation, moving load velocity, microstructure parameter and nonlocal size scale effects on the dynamic and vibration responses of perforated Reddy nanobeam structures have been investigated in a wide context. The obtained results are supportive for the design of MEMS/NEMS structures such as frequency filters, resonators, relay switches, accelerometers, and mass flow sensors, with perforation.

Analytical Modeling of Nonlinear Behavior of Composite Stub-Girders

        Raafat E. S. Ismail,Mohamed T. H. El-Katt,Hesham A. Zien Eldin,Younis M. Y. Kasem 한국강구조학회 2012 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.12 No.4

This paper presents an inelastic analytical model for modeling the nonlinear behavior of partially composite stub-girder under midspan concentrated load with partially end joint stiffness. The method treats the stub-girder as a beam with three distinct layers, the top and bottom layers behave according to the normal beam bending theory, while the middle layer is a shear layer without any bending stiffness. At the interface between the steel and concrete elements, the headed stud shear connectors are modeled as linear elastic built-in cantilevers. The present method smears the effects of all the contributing shear elements, stubs and studs, along the span. The differential equation for the stub-girder is solved to obtain the general expression of elastic deflection for the case when one concentrated load is applied at the mid-span. Based on the present approach a computer program called “PZA” is developed. The program accounts for nonlinear behavior of concrete and steel materials. The accuracy and reliability of the program are demonstrated by the analysis of three stub girders and one composite beam over the entire loading range up to ultimate load and the results are compared with published experiments.. A relatively good agreements with the experimental findings are found. Then a parametric study is carried out to discuss the effect of the initial stiffness of shear connector and the stub height on the behavior of stub-girder.

Numerical Investigations on Dynamic Performance of Stiffened Box Steel Bridge Piers

        Raafat E. S. Ismail,Fahmy A. Fathelbab,Hesham A. Zien Eldin,Sameh I. Zenhom 한국강구조학회 2012 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.12 No.2

The aim of this paper is to carry out extensive numerical investigations about the effect of various structural parameters on the dynamic performance of stiffened box steel bridge pier under a strong earthquake ground motion. The considered structural parameters are the local slenderness ratios of stiffener and stiffened wall as well as the global slenderness ratio of the pier. In the present study, all investigated piers are made of high tensile steel with high yield ratio. The non-linear time history analyses are carried out using in-house Finite Element Program DYNAPSS, recently developed by the first author. This program is verified by comparing its results with the results obtained by the general FE program. In this program, the geometrical nonlinearity is considered on the bases of Total Lagrangian formulation, while the non-linearity of structural steel material is considered through implementation of modified multisurface cyclic plasticity model by which real characteristics of high tensile steel material such as, Plateau, Massing type of Bauschinger’s effect, disappearing of Plateau and cyclic strain hardening, are accurately modeled. The results are closely examined in respect with the damage index criterion. From this study, it is found that the increase in slenderness ratios of stiffener does not only increase the damage index, but also may lead to the full collapse. Furthermore, the damage index increases with the increase of local slenderness ratio of stiffened wall and the global slenderness ratio. Also, it is found that when the loacal buckling is not the dominant eigen mode and the pier behave as a single degree of freedom, the natural period has destructive effects when it is close to predominant period of the earthquake. Finally, contour plots of damage index values are presented. These contour plots may be greatly useful for the design of stiffened box steel bridge piers, where, critical values of structural parameters corresponding to certain value of damage index could be determined.

Strengthening of bolted shear joints in industrialized ferrocement construction

        M. Ismail,M. Shariati,A.S.M. Abdul Awal,C.E. Chiong,E. Sadeghipour Chahnasir,A. Porbar,A. Heydari,M. Khorami 국제구조공학회 2018 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.28 No.6

This paper highlights results of some experimental work that deals with strengthening of bolted shear joints in thin-walled ferrocement structure where steel wires, bent into U-shape are considered as simple inserts around the bolt hole. The parameters investigated include the number of layers of wire mesh, edge distance of bolt hole, size and location of the inserts. Test results have shown that for small edge distance, failure occurred either in cleavage or shearing mode, and the strength of the joint increased with an increase in the edge distance. This continued up to an upper limit set by either tension or bearing failure. The experimental study further revealed that for a given edge distance the strength of a joint can significantly be enhanced by using U-inserts. The equations developed for predicting joint strength in ferrocement composites can also be modified to include the effects of the inserts with a good level of accuracy.

      • Effects of the electronic expansion valve and variable velocity compressor on the performance of a refrigeration system

        Lago, Taynara G.S.,Ismail, Kamal A.R.,Nobrega, Claudia R.E.S.,Moura, Luiz F.M. Techno-Press 2020 Advances in energy research Vol.7 No.1

Energy consumption of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems is responsible for about 25 to 30% of the energy demand especially in hot seasons. This equipment is mostly electricity dependent and their use in principle affects negatively the environment. Enhancing the energy efficiency of the existing equipment is important as one of the measures to reduce environment impacts. This paper reports the results of an experimental study to evaluate the impacts of the use electronic expansion valve and variable velocity compressor on the performance of vapor compression refrigeration system. The experimental rig is composed of two independent circuits one for the vapor compression system and the other is the secondary fluid system. The vapor compression system is composed of a forced air condenser unit, evaporator, hermetic compressor and expansion elements, while the secondary system has a pump for circulating the secondary fluid, and an air conditioning heat exchanger. The manufacturer's data was used to determine the optimal points of operation of the system and consequently tests were done to evaluate the influence of variation of the compressor velocity and the opening of the expansion device on the performance of the refrigeration system. A fuzzy logic model was developed to control the rotational velocity of the compressor and the thermal load. Fuzzy control model was made in LabVIEW software with the objective of improving the system performance, stability and energy saving. The results showed that the use of fuzzy logic as a form of control strategy resulted in a better energy efficiency.
