Modern flexible tall buildings with reduced damping ratios are sensitive to wind-induced vibrations. Most of the excessive wind-induced vibrations of tall building are due to vortex-induced vibrations. The type of building section model having sectional area of 0.0025㎡ and the height of 0.5m with side ratio denoted as D/B, of 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 was selected for aeroelastic experimental study. All measurements were made in a boundary layer wind tunnel at the Chonbuk National University Wind-tunnel Lab. In this paper, the vortex induced vibration of tall buildings with aspect ratio 10 was investigated in turbulent layer flows over suburban areas. Effectiveness of increasing damping ratios was investigated.

Interest in new and renewable energies like solar energy and wind energy is increasing throughout the world due to the rapidly expanding energy consumption and environmental reasons. An essential requirement for wind force power generation is estimating the size of wind energy accurately. Wind energy is estimated usually using meteorological data or field measurement. This study attempted to estimate wind energy density using meteorological data on daily mean wind speed and the Wei bull parameters in Seoul, a representative inland city where over 60% of 15 story or higher apartments in Korea are situated, and Busan, Incheon, Ulsan and Jeju that are major coastal cities in Korea. According to the results of analysis, the monthly mean probability density distribution based on the daily mean wind speed agreed well with the monthly mean probability density distribution based on the Weibull parameters. This finding suggests that the Weibull parameters, which is highly applicable and convenient, can be utilized to estimate the wind energy density distribution of each area. Another finding was that wind energy density was higher in coastal cities Busan and Incheon than in inland city Seoul.

A theory for statistical of the breakdown voltage has been developed. Two factors have been found to be effective on lamp starting. One is the probability of leading to a breakdown of one initial electron liberated from the cathode, and the other is the number of the electrons liberated per second from the cathode. The writers emphasize the importance of investigating the rule for the combination of the lamp and the starting device by statistical mathode.

Frostbite is the most common local injury resulting from exposure to a cold environment. In the emergency department, the treatment of frostbite includes rewarming, prevention of infection, and wound management. However, systemic complications, such as rhabdomyolysis and acute renal failure, may develope in patients with wide and deep frostbite. We report a case of frostbite with acute renal failure which was successfully treated by early hemodialysis.
