Apolipoprotein C3 (ApoC3) plays a regulatory role in triglyceride (TG) metabolism. The higher level of TG can be a cause in pathogenesis of the vascular diseases or metabolic syndrome (MetS). In this study, we examined the associations of ApoC3 polymorphisms (-482C[T rs2854117 and 3238G[C rs5128) with Korean MetS patients. A total of 835 subjects were investigated, including 320 patients with MetS and 515 healthy subjects. The genotype analysis of the ApoC3 polymorphisms was performed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism methods. Of the two polymorphisms studied, we observed a significant difference in the -482C[T polymorphism between the MetS and control groups. The TT genotype of the -482C[T polymorphism was associated with increased risk for MetS, compared with the controls (OR 1.627, 95 % CI 1.075–2.463, P = 0.021). The association was female-specific. No associations were found for the risk of MetS in the 3238G[C polymorphism. Haplotypes composed of two polymorphisms, however, were associated with MetS susceptibility in only male group. The 3238G[C polymorphism was significantly associated with TG levels (P = 0.013). Our data suggest that the ApoC3 -482C[T polymorphism is associated with increased MetS susceptibility in the Korean population.
A Bandwidth Allocation Scheme in Fieldbuses

Field devices in factory automation and process control systems generate time-critical, periodic, and time-available data. These data share the bandwidth of one fieldbus network medium. This paper reviews a bandwidth allocation scheme (BAS) that is applicable to many different kinds of fieldbuses. The BAS satisfies the real-time transmission requirements of time-critical and periodic data, and fully utilizes the bandwidth resources of the fieldbus network. The basic concept of the BAS is introduced and its implementation in Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, and CAN protocols is discussed.

정보화 요구의 확산에 따라 최근에 와서 MAN(Metropolitan Area Network)의 관심도가 고조되고 있다. 본 고에서는 IEEE 802.6에서 표준화를 추진하고 있는 DQDB(Distributed Queue Dual Bus) MAN프로토콜의 구조에 대하여 간략히 서술하였고, 현재 표준화의 진척상황 및 어떠한 문제점들이 논의되고 있는지 알아보았으며, 또한 MAN이 충분한 서비스를 제공하기 위하여 앞으로 어떠한 사항들이 해결되어야 할 것인가에 대하여 언급하였다.

The data link layer of Foundation Fieldbus is operated on the basis of scheduling and token-passing disciplines. This paper presents a network design method of Foundation Fieldbus using a bandwidth allocation scheme. Fieldbus traffic consists of periodic data and sporadically generated time-critical and time-available data. The bandwidth allocation scheme schedules the transmission of periodic data. Time-critical and time-available data are transmitted via a token-passing service. The validity of this bandwidth allocation scheme is determined using an experimental model of a network system. The results obtained from the experimental model show that the proposed scheme restricts the delay of both periodic and time-critical data to a pre-specified bound. The proposed bandwidth allocation scheme also fully utilizes the bandwidth resource of the network system.
