N/A Liposomes are microscopic spherical vesicles that form when lipids are hydrated and have been widely used for biochemical assay, drug delivery and molecular imaging. In particular, they are well known for artificial cell membranes to study cellular functions such as cell fusions and membrane proteins. Here, we firstly report the detection of liposomes by the highly sensitive microfabricated piezoresistive cantilever sensor chip and the phosphatidylserine recognition protein C2A which is chemically immobilized on the sensor surface. The signal created from the bending motion of piezoresistive cantilever after the liposome attachment has been monitored in real time.

A FEM-based efficient method is developed for the shape optimization of arbitrary structures, using the sequential linear programming. Selected set of master nodes are employed as design variables and assigned to move towards the normal direction. After adapting the nodes on the design boundary, the B-spline curves and mesh smoothing schemes are used to maintain the finite element in good quality. Numerical results from the optimization of an automobile lock-up clutch of a torque converter subjected to pressure and centrifugal loads are presented.

In the past, much of work done in structural optimization consist of resizing the members of fixed configuration model. Shape optimization is more complex than the pure sizing optimization. A FEM-based efficient method is developed for the shape optimization of 2-D structures. The combined sequential linear program method and simplex method are coupled with finite element analysis. An efficient curve fitting technique has been developed to preserve the shape of complex structures. The proposed technique represents more precise and smoother surfaces than using conventional B-spline curves. This paper dealt with optimum shape design of an automobile pedal arm. The developed techniques bench marked with commercial program. Optistruct, and results similar optimized shapes decreasing volume by about 5%.

An efficient method is developed for the shape optimization of 2-D structures. The sequential linear
programming is used for minimization problems. Selected set of master nodes are employed as design
variables and assigned to move towards the normal direction. After adapting the nodes on the design
boundary, the B-spline curves and mesh smoothing schemes are used to maintain the finite element in
good quality. Finally, a numerical implementation of optimum design of an automobile torque converter
piston subjected to pressure and centrifugal loads is presented. The results shows additional weight up
to 13% may be saved after the shape optimization.
