The superposition model has been applied to determine the position of substitutional Cr³+ion in ruby under an assumption that the Cr³+ ions occupy a site not far from the Al³+ site. We also assumed that the chromium ions keep the symmetry about the c-axis due to the ESR-spectra. According to the superposition model analysis, we have found that the very Al³+ site(D₁=0.841Å) does not accord with the experimented value D=-5.7427 GHz, whereas the site of D₁=1.300Å along the c-axis does

ESR Studies were performed on a natural amethyst from Unyang in Korea. Complex angular dependent ESR spectra were obtained at room temperature using X-band(9.541 GHz) spectrometer of Varian model E112. These spectra contain three groups; a group of ?? fine structure signal, angular independent group on a-b plane and b-c plane, remainder complex group. The first group was identified fine structure of ?? ion substituted for ?? in α-quartz by the spin Hamiltonjan ?? with g=2.0032, D=-2.0463, E=5.5277, F=-0.0282 GHz.

To compare the geographic differences in anesthesia between Eumsung eup and another city, anesthetic experiences of 8,307 cases performed at the Sunchunhyng Eumsung Hospital from Apr. 1984 to Dec. 1994 were analyzed statistically according to age, sex, physical status, anesthetic agents and methods, emergency operations and medical insurances. There were no inclusions of cases performed under local anesthesia. The results were as follows: 1) According to the age category, 21-30 and 31-40 year age groups occupied 47 % of the total cases. 2) Sexual categorization was as follows: male 47.5 %, female 52.5 %. 3) According to the preoperative A.S.A. physical status, 58.9 % of total cases were class 1. 4) General inhalation anesthesia was performed in 83.3 % of total cases. 5) 41.5 % of the total cases were emergency cases. 6) Medical insurance patients have been increased since 1988.

Electron spin resonance spectra and transformations of the principal axes for the octahedral cubic a-term about the Fe3+ ion have been studied. The ESR spectra of the term have cubic symmetry about its principal exes, and isotropic symmetry about the axis of (111)-direction. The details of the calculation and X-band spectra for the Fe3+-center in a single crystal of GaP are examined using the transformation.
Graves`Disease 산모에서 제왕절개술시 발생한 심부전과 폐부종

We report a case of heart failure and pulmonary edema in patient with Graves disease during recovery from general anesthesia for cesarean section. A 34-year-old multigrivida, at 35 weeks gestation underwent emergency cesarian section for preterm labor, twin pregnancy and polyhydramnios. She has been treated with Graves' disease for 5 years. After premedication with propranolol and glycopyrrolate, anesthesia was induced with thiopenthal and maintained with O₂-N₂O-enflurane. At the end of skin closure, heart failure and pulmonary edema were developed. On auscultation, systolic murmur was audible at the left sternal border and immediate echocardiography revealed mitral valve prolapse accompanied with mitral regurgitation. After proper treatment, she was discharged without complication at 14 days after surgery.

The effect of impurities on the hardness of crystalline SiO₂ samples has been investigated. Seven samples of differently colored natural quartz are adopted for this investigation. In these samples, major impurities. Al, Fe and Na, constitute more than 90 weight % of total impurity contents respectively. The hardness is measured by the Vickers microindentation method on the plane perpendicular to the c-axis of these crystals. The hardness values are found to be decreased by the amount of 20% as the contents of impurity are increased in the range of 0.09-0.22 wt%, whereas the hardness is insensitive to the impurity in the range of 0.22-0.44 wt%.

An irradiation of electron beam with about 1.7 MeV on the surface perpendicular to y-axis of clear cultured quartz made x-growth portions the smoky quartz, but dose not change z-growth-portions at room temperature. The smoky quartz had strong ESR signals of ?? centers at 77K, but the clear quartz have not. With increasing annealing temperature of amethyst, the S₁center is increased, the S₂and the purple color are decreased, finally they are disappeared after annealing at about 450℃. The purple color was also bleached after sufficient irradiation of Xe-lamp on amethyst at room temperature, while the S₂center was rather intensified. It seems that the color center of amethyst is concerned with Fe and H in quartz, nevertheless, not the S₂center itself.
사파이어의 Fe³^+ -center에 대한 ESR 연구

An electron spin resonance study of the Fe3+-center in Sapphire has been carried out at room temperature employing the JEOL JE-TE100 X-band spectrometer. The spin Hamiltonian parameters of the center are determined from the measurements using the least-squares method. The sample was prepared from a synthetic corundum doped with iron and titanium, which was grown in the Korean Research Institute of Chemical Technology in Taedok Science Town. It is found that the c-axis is made an angle of about 63˚ with the growing axis of the crystal. All 190 experimental resonance points are used to fit the ESR parameters, the data are well consistent with our calculations with the parameters. There are still unidentified ESR signals in the sample.
3-Phenyl-1-(2-furyl)propenone유도체의 가수분해 반응 메카니즘의 반응속도론적 연구

Five 3-phenyl-l-(2-furyl)propenone derivatives were prepared by the condensation reactions of acetylfuran with benzaldehyde derivatives. The rate constants for hydrolysis of 3-phenyl-l-(2-furyl) propenone derivatives were determined at various pH in 50% MeOH-water mixed solvents at 25℃ (u=0. 1 NaCl). From the observed rate constants, rate equations, isosbestic points, general base effect, substituent effect and product analysis, the reasonable mechanism was proposed. From the results, the reaction mechanism was proposed 1,4-Michael type addition reaction of a, b-unsaturated ketones with water. Below pH8.0, water added to the carbon-carbon double bond of 3-phenyl-l-(2-furyl) propenone derivatives. At pH 8.0-12.0, water molecules and hydroxide ion added competitively to carbon-carbon double bond of 3-phenyl-l-(2-furyl) propenone. Above pH12, hydroxde ion added to the carbon-carbon double bond of 3-phenyl-l-(2-furyl) propenone.
