The applicability of UPT (Ultrasound Pulse Thermography) for real-time defect detection of the ceramic heating plate is described. The ceramic heating plate with superior insulation and high radiation is used to control the water temperature in underwater environment. The underwater temperature control system can be damaged owing to the short circuit, which resulted from the defect of the ceramic heating plate. A high power ultrasonic energy with pulse duration of 280 ms was injected into the ceramic heating plate in the vertical direction. The ultrasound excited vibration energy sent into the component propagate inside the sample until they were converted to the heat in the vicinity of the defect. Therefore, an injection of the ultrasound pulse wave which results in heat generation, turns the defect into a local thermal wave transmitter. Its local emission is monitored and recorded via the thermal infrared camera at the surface which is processed by image recording system. Measurements were Performed on 4 kinds of samples, composed of 3 intact plates and the defect plate. The observed thermal image revealed two area of crack in the defective ceramic heating plate.

Assumed that an IPTV camera system is to be used as an ad-hoc sensor for the surveillance and diagnostics of safety-critical equipments installed in the in-containment building of the nuclear power plant, an major problem is the presence of high dose-rate gamma irradiation fields inside the one. In order to uses an IPTV camera in such intense gamma radiation environment of the in-containment building, the radiation-weakened devices including a CCD imaging sensor, FPGA, ASIC and microprocessors are to be properly shielded from high dose-rate gamma radiation using the high-density material, lead or tungsten. But the passive elements such as mirror, lens and window, which are placed in the optical path of the CCD imaging sensor, are exposed to a high dose-rate gamma ray source directly. So, the gamma-ray irradiation characteristics of the passive elements, is needed to test. A CCD camera lens, made of glass material, have been gamma irradiated at the dose rate of 4.2 kGy/h during an hour up to a total dose of 4 kGy. The radiation induced color-center in the glass lens is observed. The degradation performance of the gamma irradiated lens is explained using an color component analysis.

Aerosol 환경에서의 USAF1951 분해능 표적의 영상판독

본 논문에서는 에어로졸 (dense fog) 환경에서 USAF 1951 분해능 표적에 대한 영상판독실험을 수행하였다. 원통형 구조의 안개상자 (직경 1m X 길이 8.6m)좌측에는 strobe light를 배치하고, 반대편인 우측에 USAF1951 Resolution Target을 부착하였다. 안개상자 내에 에어로졸 농도가 포화될 때가지 안개를 주입한다. 안개주입에 따른 가시도를 정량적으로 계산하기 위하여, He-Ne 레이저 (635nm, 10mW) 빛의 감쇄를 측정하였다. 그리고, Strobe light (flash)를 터트리고, Strobe light 의 점등 동기에 맞춰 USAF1951 resolution target 을 디지털 카메라로 촬영하였다. 안개상자 내의 안개농도 포화(가시도)에 따른 USAF1951 분해능 표적의 판독특성을 평가하였다.
