        조재금,이재연,정성목,김명철 忠南大學校 獸醫科大學 附設 動物醫科學硏究所 2011 動物醫科學硏究誌 Vol.18 No.1

Seven-year old, castrated male pekingese was presented with sudden onset of pain and tetraparesis. He was diagnosed with multiple intervertebral disc disease (lesion: C6-7 [mild], T12-13 [mild], L2-3 [moderate] via MRI in 2006. After undergoing conservative therapy at local hospital, he had more severe symptom in December 2009 than before. In order to identify exact site, he had been taken second MRI and transferred to CNU VMTH. Definitive diagnosis is also multiple intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) with the same lesion except C3-4 (+++). The spinal cord between C3 and C4 is ventrally compressed by intervertebral disc and the compression is much more severe than other lesions. Since the symptoms were severe and took place rapidly and didn't respond to medical treatment, surgical treatment, ventral slot for new lesion(C3-4) was planned. After the ventral compression of spinal cord between C3 and C4 was achieved, he showed enhancement which is gradual return to normal neurologic response, sternal recumbency, and occasional standing. After postoperative treatment at local hospital, he fully recovered to the normal. It was considered that accurate diagnosis timely adequate treatment are essential for the cure of IVDD.

Recurrent Pericardial Effusion with Feline Infectious Peritonitis in a Cat

        백수연,조재금,송근호,서경원 한국임상수의학회 2017 한국임상수의학회지 Vol.34 No.6

A five-month-old, male Domestic Korean shorthair was referred to our hospital with a history of lethargy, anorexia, and globoid cardiac silhouette on thoracic radiography. Physical examination showed dehydration and anemia was revealed on blood analysis. On thoracic radiography and echocardiography, the patient showed pericardial effusion and ultrasound-guided pericardiocentesis was performed. A Rivalta test of the pericardial effusion showed a positive result. As the patient had recurrent pericardial effusion, pericardiectomy was performed. He was tentatively diagnosed with wet form feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) and treated with Polyprenyl immunostimulant (PI). Neurological signs were eventually seen and he was euthanized. Histopathologic changes with markedly expanded neutrophils, lymphocytes, plasma cells, and macrophages with fibrous connective tissue and collagenous fibers were detected. Immunohistochemistry for FIP antigen was performed and results showed FIPV-positive multifocal aggregates of cells. Pericardial effusion is an atypical condition in cats with FIP, but can be presented. This case report describes FIP with pericardial effusion in a cat, in which definitive diagnosis of FIP was done using biopsy via pericardiectomy.

A Comparison of Two Intramuscular Doses of a Xylazine-Diazepam-Ketamine Combination in Dogs

        이재연,서지원,조재금,조하은,정성목,김명철 한국임상수의학회 2012 한국임상수의학회지 Vol.29 No.1

Many drugs are administered intramuscularly to immobilize and anesthetize dogs. There are many established intramuscular (IM) anesthetic combinations for dogs; however, little information is available on the effects of a xylazinediazepam-ketamine (XDK) combination. The purpose of this study was to investigate the anesthetic effects of the XDK combination in dogs. Twelve adult mixed bred dogs were used. All dogs were anesthetized with an IM injection of diazepam (0.5 mg/kg) and xylazine (1.1 mg/kg) with low-dose ketamine (5 mg/kg; group 1) or high-dose ketamine (10 mg/kg; group 2) in one syringe. After administration of the test dose, the animals were positioned in a right lateral recumbency, and analgesia and cardiopulmonary data were collected and recorded. The duration of anesthesia in group 2 was significantly longer than that of group 1 (mean [sd] 68.0 [7.6] v 51.3 [2.7] minutes). Blood pressure increased significantly after XDK administration in both groups, and SaO2 levels decreased significantly from baseline at 10,20, and 30 minutes in both groups. XDK administration produced satisfactory sedation and analgesia in all dogs. In conclusion, intramuscular administration of xylazine-diazepam-ketamine combination at a doses of 1.1 mg/kg xylazine,0.5 mg/kg diazepam, and 5 or 10 mg/kg ketamine appeared to be effective short duration anesthetic protocols in dogs.
