A 5-years-old 3.7 kg intact female Pomeranian dog was presented with the history of swelling and pain in the distal part of the right forelimb. The swollen lesion was firm as bony material on palpation. On radiographic examination, there was a well-marginated, radiolucent, and expansile bone lesion in the distal metaphysis of the right ulna. Because of very narrow zone of transition, well-defined margins and absence of any periosteal reactivity, benign bone cyst was strongly suspected. The lesion was removed by en bloc resection and packed the space with Gelfoam®and aneurysmal bone cyst was finally diagnosed according to histopathological examination. Normal gait was showed on postoperative day 9 and there have been no pain and complication for 1 year since then.

A 6-years-old 30 kg male Germen Shepherd dog was presented with the history of abdominal pain, intermittent vomiting and anorexia. Abdominal survey radiography and ultrasonography revealed marked colonic distention. Positive contrast radiography revealed a colonic obstruction between the transverse colon and descending colon. Foreign bodies were identfied during colonoscopy. The descending colon was inflated by the air of endocope then foreign bodies were moved to the descending colon. Foreign bodies were removed by the enema. The dog's clinical signs resolved following foreign body removal.

The objective of this study was to determine output power for skin incision in 0.3 mm spot diameter CO2 laser by measuring (1) the wound depth, (2) initial dermal tissue damage, (3) degree of wound healing at different power (4W, 5W and 6W) in beagle dogs. Three healthy 2-year-old beagle dogs were used. Four 2 cm straight skin incisions were made with 0.3 mm spot diameter CO2 laser on the each dog’s both side of dorsal midline in three beagle dogs. The skin incisions were performed for 10~15 seconds for same dosage. And then each wound was closed with surgical stapler. At 0, 3, 7 and 14 days after initial wounding, each wound was taken for histological observation. On macroscopic and microscopic observation, initial incisional wound did not show difference in three group. And also re-epithelialization, dermal tissue damage and inflammatory response did not show significant difference among groups. This study reveals that 4W, 5W and 6W may be suitable output power in 0.3 mm spot diameter CO2 laser for the skin incision in beagle dogs

A 9-years-old female Collie dog was presented with history of abdominal enlargement, anorexia and constipation. On radiographic and ultrasonographic examinations, intra-abdominal mass was identified. On cytologic findings of the mass, no cancer cell was observed. Exploratory laparotomy was performed to diagnose and remove the mass. A large, single, spheroid mass weighing 9.5 kg (40 × 25 × 18 cm) was located in the middle section of the right uterine horn. Based on the results of histopathological examination, the mass was diagnosed as a cystic endometrial hyperplasia (CEH). This is rare case of severe focal CEH without pyometra in a bitch.

There are many intramuscularly injectable drugs commonly used for anesthesia in dogs and combination of drugs were used for decrease the side effects. The objective of this study was to evaluate the anesthetic and cardiopulmonary effects of butorphanol-tiletamine-zolazepam-medetomidine and tramadol-tiletamine-zolazepam-medetomidine in dogs. Ten healthy beagle dogs (intact male; mean body weight : 9.5 ± 1.60 kg) were used in the study. Experimental animals were divided into two groups (n = 5, each) and received 0.2 mg/kg of butorphanol (BZM) and 2 mg/kg of tramadol (TZM) according to the group after injection of Zoletil® (5 mg/kg) and medetomidine (10 ug/kg). All drugs were administered intramuscularly. Anesthesia and recovery, sedation and analgesia score, cardiovascular and respiratory parameters were measured. Induction and recovery time were not significantly different between the groups. Anesthesia time was 117.4 ± 25.64 minute and 81.2 ± 12.50 minute in BZM and TZM groups, respectively. Sedation and analgesia were satisfied in both groups. In both groups, common side effects related to the medetomidine, significant bradycardia and hypertension were not observed. There were no significant changes in respiratory data. In conclusion, tiletamine-zolazepam-medetomidine in combination with either butorphanol or tramadol can be suitable anesthetic protocol for minor procedures in dogs. They produced adequate anesthesia characterized by rapid induction, adequate analgesia and muscle relaxation without remarkable side effects.
Single Incision Flexible Endoscopic Cholecystectomy in Dogs : Feasibility Study
이소연,신범준,정성목 한국임상수의학회 2011 한국임상수의학회지 Vol.28 No.6
Laparoscopic surgery is a well-established alternative to open surgery across disciplines. However, in veterinary medicine, laparoscopic surgery in dogs was rarely reported because of small abdominal size for multiple ports insertion. The concept of single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) is to perform the entire laparoscopic operation through a single incision rather than conventional multiple small skin incisions. Indirect evidence of potential benefits of SILS, decreases operative morbidity related to reduction in port size, already exists. Therefore, this study was performed to evaluate the safety and feasibility of the modified form of SILS using flexible endoscope in Cholecystectomy before clinical adoption. A 2 cm single periumbilical incision was performed, and flexible endoscope was introduced into the abdominal cavity. A laparoscopic grasper was inserted into the abdominal cavity for the traction of gall bladder. Cystic duct and artery were ligated by 5 mm Hem-o-lok®. Then, gall bladder was dissected and resected from the liver with 5 mm Autonomy Laparo-Angle Maryland dissector and endoscopic needle knife. Resected gall bladder was wrapped by using specimen pouch and was retrieved through abdominal incision from the cavity. All three gall bladders were successfully removed. Hematological changes were not observed during examination periods. No leakage sign was identified at necropsy. The flexible endoscope, as distinct from conventional rigid laparoscope, allows the visualization from various angles and the wide range of motion, result in less crowding.
