We review basic principles and recent applications of quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) for chemical sensors. QCM sensors have been currently employed in the analysis of odorous compounds as well as common gas detection. Various types of data analysis have been employed for the pattern recognition and classification techniques. Future trends and application areas of QCM sensors is also introduced and summarized in the text.

In this article, ultra-thin microchannel-type electrophoresis chip is presented to enhance the detection sensitivity of total internalreection uorescence microscopy (TIRFM) for both prism- and lens-type methods simultaneously. Very small thickness of the micro-chip is in particular helpful to acquire the better images of biomolecules near the bottom wall in the prism-type TIRFM using an uprightmicroscope. This microchip has salient features in that its whole thickness can lie between 200l m and 250 l m, taken into account, rel-a ne control of micro- and nano-uidics in the femtomole concentration are described.
적외선 다이오드 레이저 흡수 분광법을 이용한 미량기체물질 측정

실험실에서 미량의 기체를 파장가변 다이오드 레이저 흡수 분광법 (TDLAS) 을 사용하여 연구하였다. 디지탈 오실로스코프에서 직접적으로 흡광도를 측정하거나 위상 탐지기를 사용하여 시료 기체 셀에 들어 있는 약 10 ppm 정도의 메탄 기체를 주파수 변조에 의하여 이차미분조건에서 탐지하였다. Germanium 에탈론에서 나오는 간섭무늬를 이용하여 스펙트럼선들 사이의 간격을 측정할 수 있었고 HITRAN: 데이터베이스를 이용하여 메탄의 스펙트럼선들의 정확한 위치를 0.001 cm-1 분해능으로 assignment 할 수 있었다. 스펙트럼선들의 신호 대 잡음 비와 현재 실험조건을 미루어볼 때 오실로스코프의 직접 흡수에서는 약 0.01 ppm 정도의 농도를 위상탐지기로는 ppb 수준이하도 탐지가 가능할 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 앞으로 대기 중에 악취물질 탐지에 TDLAS 방법을 적용할 예정이다. We have performed a trace gas measurement in the laboratory using tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS). A direct absorbance measurement from a digital oscilloscope and a second derivative spectrum using a lock-in amplifier were used to monitor the methane spectral lines in the sample gas cell at the pressure of about 10 ppm. Germanium etalon interference fringes were used to measure the spacing between the spectral lines with a resolution of 0.001 cm-1. HITRAN (high-resolution infrared transmission molecular absorption database) was used to locate the spectral line position of methane. We could successfully monitor the methane gas lines from both the oscilloscope and the lock-in amplifier. A detection limit of about 0.01 ppm from the direct absorption on the oscilloscope and sub-ppb levels via the lock-in detection appeared to be achieved using our diode laser spectrometer. We plan to apply the TDLAS method to monitor various odor active gases in the atmosphere.
Asymmetric nozzle structure for particles converging into a highly confined region

Asymmetric nozzle inlet was suggested for particles to converge into a highly conned region. The physical properties from thenano-scaled volumetric dierence at nozzle inlet were investigated using computational uid dynamics and particle motion measure-ment with uorescence beads and erythrocytes. The asymmetric nozzle structure made particles converge eciently without clog-ging at nozzle inlet. It could be used as a micro/nanouidic unit for cell based assay in a microchip such as chip-based owcytometer.
