For the water resources and flood damage reductions, influences on rainfall-runoff and flood control function of forest should be explained with quantity, because most of mountainous watersheds are headwaters and these areas hold important positions for the water resources. In this research, Kinematic wave model was applied for the runoff analysis. Regulation of streamflow was estimated by the simulation of source areas as a parameter. The data analyzed were obtained from Ananomiya and Shirasaka experimental basins at the Tokyo University Forest in Aichi. Estimation methods and characteristics of source areas as a evaluation method of streamflow regulation are summarized as follows : 1. Source areas was estimatied by the parameter when the stream direct run off was calculated by using the kinematic wave. 2. The formation of source areas is influenced by the basin initial storage, rainfall intensity and rainfall time, and it also is a functional relation -with basin storage. 3. The better forest physiognomy, the less source areas formation. 4. Runoff characteristics and streamflow regulation of forest are estimated by the increase or decrease of source areas.
