Generally, antiseptic synthetic woods are used in septic environment because of their durability and relatively fine view. However, they have problems such as a failure of connection between the members under the septic conditions. In this study we investigate a fiber reinforced polyurethane foothold to be used in the wet environment to replace the synthetic wood. The fiber reinforced polyurethane foothold is consist of 2 different layer of materials. First layer is a glass fiber reinforced polymeric plastics (GFRP) which is located at outer surface of the foothold. This GFRP outer layers carry most parts of load. Second layer is a polyurethane layer which transfers the load to each outer layer. Flexural tests for this foothold are conducted. From the flexural tests it is confirmed that the structural performance of foothold test specimen with different number of GFRP layers and density of the polyurethane.

GFRP (glass fiber reinforced polymeric plastic) composite members are superior construction materials because they have higher specific strength and stiffness than steel and concretes. In addition, they also have high resistance to chemical corrosion. However, in many existing researches it reported that GFRP members have less resistance to ultra-violet ray (UV-ray), so they may cause critical structural problems due to changes of mechanical properties when the material is long-term exposed under UV-ray. In this study, we investigated whether these reports are reliable through two processes. First, we reviewed existing researches on the FRP members’s resistance to UV-ray, and then we conducted tensile strength test for GFRP sample exposed to UV-ray for 30 months (900 days). These two processes showed that mechanical properties of GFRP members do not change under long-term UV-ray exposure and they have enough resistance to UV-ray.

Wi syndrome is the syndrome that reveals muscle relaxation without contraction and muscle relaxation occurs in the low or upper limb, in severe case leads to death. We experienced a 80year-old woman who had a Wi syndrome, and treated by the way of reinforcing weakness of the spleen and stomach(脾胃虛弱). After being treated, the patient showed that symptoms (gait disturbance, ptosis, dysphonia) was improved. This result suggests that oriental medical treatment has good effect on Wi syndrome.
근대의자와 넨도디자인 의자의 조형적 특성 비교분석 연구

In a contemporary design context, the form of design is created through various design principles. The form is often expressed concisely by several issues of the production process and economic aspects and is also influenced by the times and cultural symbolism. In particular, many architects and designers have developed numerous forms of chairs while experimenting with various materials and methods because the human scale and structural issues should be considered in the design process. Therefore, this paper investigates the meanings and aspects of design language by analyzing the characteristics of chairs. This paper starts by discussing modern chairs to explore their design language, and analyze the characteristics of the design language in contemporary chairs, focusing on the works by the Japanese design group, Nendo. Nendo deals with various fields of design such as furniture, interior space and architectural space, providing opportunities to consider different materials, forms and methods when creating design projects. By analyzing various representative chairs of the times, I try to explore characteristics of design forms, newly expressed in the contemporary context, focusing on works by Nendo. As a result, the characteristics of works in Nendo design are as follows 1) transformation and reunion of existing elements, 2) daily and non-daily 3) hiding 4) repetition of elements, 5) imperfection and 6) resting time for objects. As shown above, various design elements and principles are expressed as design characteristics. Comparing modern and Nendo design, it can be confirmed that Nendo design considers cognitive aspects in form compared to modern times. In the modern times, color shows character of the time and sensibility, while the Nendo design has a color expression limited to the sensibility. In modern times, the exposure of material purity through tactile texture is strong, whereas Nendo design shows tactile texture and visual texture equally. This indicates that a new cognitive aspect is emerging.
