        γ-aminobutyric acid의 첨가가 비육기 거세한우의 성장특성, 혈액성상 및 도체특성에 미치는 영향

        γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a natural stress-reducing substance and is actively used as a human health supplement. However, minimal research has been conducted on its use in cattle. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of GABA on the growth performance, complete blood count, blood metabolites, and carcass characteristics of fattening Hanwoo steers. Twenty-one fattening steers were randomly assigned to one of three treatments: control (basal diet: concentrate feed + rice straw), T1 (basal diet + GABA supplement at 0.8% of feed/head/day), and T2 (basal diet + GABA supplement at 1.6% of feed/head/day). Feed intake and conversion ratio did not differ among the treatments. However, the average daily gain during the early fattening period increased linearly to 0.80 kg, 0.86 kg, and 0.92 kg in the control, T1, and T2 groups (p<0.05). Plasma γ-glutamyl transferase (37.5, 58.2, 42.8 U/ℓ) and creatinine (1.32, 1.34, 1.49 ㎎/㎗) levels in the GABA supplement group were increased compared to those in the control group. The carcass weight (422.7, 427.1, 454.1 kg), rib eye area (86.67, 92.57, 91.14 cm2), and marbling score (3.67, 4.29, 4.14) were numerically higher in the GABA supplement group than in the control group. Thus, GABA supplementation positively affected the average daily gain and carcass characteristics of Hanwoo steers. However, the effect of the GABA supplement level of GABA was small, and further research using rumen-protected coating technology on GABA is necessary.

        Effect of micronutrient (L-tryptophan) imprinting on growth performance, fecal consistency, and blood parameter of Hanwoo calves

        This study investigated the effects of rumen-protected L-tryptophan supplementation (micronutrient imprinting) on the growth performance, fecal consistency, and immunity of Hanwoo calves. Ten newborn Hanwoo calves (birth weight: 29.5 ± 3.8 kg) were randomly assigned for 120 days to the following two groups: the control group fed with a basal diet (formula feed + annual ryegrass), and the treatment group fed with a basal diet + rumen-protected L-tryptophan (0.1% of formula feed). Average daily weight gain during the entire period was significantly higher in the treatment group than in the control group (P < 0.05). The fecal scores were significantly higher in the control group in the duration from birth to 1 month and from 2 to 3 months of age (P < 0.05). The plasma magnesium concentration was significantly higher in the treatment group than in the control group (P < 0.05), while other blood metabolites and complete blood counts were similar for both groups. The concentrations of immunoglobulin A and M showed a tendency to increase in the treatment group as compared to the control group. Thus, our results indicate that rumen-protected L-tryptophan supplementation has a positive effect on immunity and is effective in improving the fecal score and growth performance of Hanwoo calves.

        Effects of π-Ray Treated Feeds on Growth Performance and Carcass Characteristics of Broiler

        This study investigated the effects of π-ray treated feeds on the growth performance, carcass composition, internal organ weight, and sensory evaluation of broilers. One hundred and eighty broiler chicks were used as experimental animals. These were divided into four treatment groups according to the π-ray treated feed supplement level: 0% (control) 1%, 3%, and 5%. The π-ray treated feeds did not significantly affect on the body weight gain (2,484–2,602 g), feed intake (4,747–4,944 g), and feed efficiency (1.90–1.98) in broilers (p>0.05). Also, carcass protein (20.2–20.4%) and fat (4.6–4.9%) contents were not affected. The lengths (178.0, 182.7, 198.0, and 190.3 cm) and weights (38.4, 41.2, 44.2, and 38.9 g/kg of body weight) of the small intestine were slightly but not significantly higher in the π-ray treatments than in the control. Further, there were no overall effect of the π-ray treatment on the abdominal fat pad (2.3, 2.1, 2.1, and 1.8%), and cecum (6.7, 4.0, 5.6, and 6.0 g/kg of body weight) and gizzard (16.8, 15.2, 18.0, and 16.6 g/kg of body weight) weights of the broilers in the present study (p>0.05). The stickiness (2.25, 4.25, 4.50, and 4.38) and flavor (2.44, 4.25, 4.31, and 4.38) of cooked breast meat were higher in the π-ray treatments than in the control (p<0.01). This study also found that, in humans, eating cooked breast meat of broilers that were fed π-ray treated feeds had a positive effect on the blood circulation in the capillaries. Thus, the findings of this study suggest that dietary π-ray treatment has a positive effect on the sensory evaluation of broilers, without any negative effect on their body weight gain, feed intake, and feed efficiency, and that the consumption of these broilers is beneficial for humans on their blood circulation.

        한국과 중국의 사료 위해인자에 관한 비교 및 선진국과의 차이점 -반추가축 배합사료를 중심으로-

        The safety management of feeds has become a very important factor for food safety andlegislation and system improvement are being implemented to prevent the hazardous factors from livestockproducts. The range of heavy metals in feed hazardous factors was similar among countries, butthe As maximum limit was strengthened in Korea compared to China. Regulation of residual pesticideand radioactivity was only controlled in Korea. The range and maximum limit of mycotoxin werestrictly controlled in China compared to Korea. In order to enhance the feed safety in Korea, it is necessaryto improve the policy, strengthen the range of the feed hazard and the maximum limit and carry outthe research related to the feed safety. 사료 위해인자의 예방 및 차단을 통한 사료의 안전성 확보는 가축뿐만 아니라 인간의 건강을 위해 매우 중요하며, 현재 사료 안전관리의 제도 개선, 위해인자별 분석방법, 새로운 위해인자의 탐색 및 허용기준 설정에 대한 연구가 세계적으로 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구는 한국과 중국의 사료 위해인자의 범위 및 허용기준을 비교·평가하고 국제기구 및 선진국의 제도와 법적 기준을 토대로 고찰하여 한국의 사료 안전관리 수준과 향후 사료 안전관리의 제도 및 정책 방향을 제시하기 위해 수행되었다. 국내에서 반추동물 사료에 이용되는 볏짚이나 농업부산물의 경우 수분함량이 높아 부패하기 쉬우며, 이물질, 동물사체, 잔류농약 및 미생물 등에 노출되어 있어 사료가 오염되기 쉽지만 원료의 검사, 관리 및 안전성 평가에 대한 시스템이 부족하여 안전관리에 취약한 점이 있어 이에 대한 대책 마련이 시급한 것으로 생각된다. 중국의 경우에도 최근 축산 분야가 급격하게 성장하고 있지만 아직 작고 영세한 시설이 많아 사료의 안전관리나 위해인자 허용기준 등은 해결해 나가야할 부분이 많은 것으로 판단된다. 본 연구는 국제기구, 선진국 및 중국의 사료안전관리 제도와 정책을 토대로 한국의 사료 안전관리 수준을 평가하여 향후 제도적 및 정책적 개선 방향을 제시하고 사료 안전성을 강화하는데 참고가 될 수 있을 것이며, 앞으로 이와 관련된 다양한 논의와 후속 연구가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

        사양체계 및 NDF 급여 수준이 번식용 육성우의 혈중 대사물질 변화에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 사양체계 및 TMR의 NDF 수준이 번식용 젖소 육성우의 혈중 대사물질 농도 변화에 미치는 영향을 검토하고, 에너지, 단백질, 지질 및 간 기능 관련 지표 대사물질의 농도를 토대로 영양 상태를 관리하기 위한 기초자료를 제공하기 위해 수행되었다. 공시동물은 번식용 젖소 육성우 50두를 공시하였으며, 시험구 배치는 사양체계에 따라 TMR 처리구(TMR) 및 배합사료 + 혼합 조사료 처리구(CON)의 2처리로 하였으며, TMR의 NDF 수준에 따라 53% 이상(T1), 50 ~ 53%(T2) 및 50% 이하(T3)로 3처리 하였다. 혈중 GLU 농도는 사양체계에 영향을 받지 않았지만, NDF 수준이 감소될수록 유의적으로 증가하였다(p<0.05). 사양체계가 혈중 단백질 관련 대사물질 농도에 미치는 영향은 없었으며, NDF 수준이 낮아질수록 혈중 ALB 농도가 증가되는 결과를 보였다(p<0.05). 혈중 CHOL 농도는 TMR 보다 CON 처리구에서 높았으며(p<0.05), NDF 수준이 낮을수록 증가되는 결과가 나타났다. 혈중 지질 농도는 TMR 보다 CON에서 높았으며, NDF 수준이 낮아질수록 높게 나타났다. 혈중 ALT 농도는 T3구가 T1 및 T2구에 비해 유의적으로 낮게 나타났다(p<0.05). 따라서 본 연구의 결과에서 사양체계 및 TMR의 NDF 수준은 번식용 젖소 육성우의 혈중 대사물질 농도 변화에 영향을 미칠 수 있지만, 사료섭취량 및 영양성분 수준을 고려할 필요가 있을 것으로 판단된다. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of feeding system and NDF levels of TMR on blood metabolites in Holstein heifers. Fifty heifers were assigned to one of five treatments according to feed type and level of NDF: TMR (total mixed ration), CON (concentration + mixed forage), T1 (${\geq}53%$ NDF), T2 (50~53% NDF), and T3 (${\leq}50%$ NDF). Although GLU concentrate was not effected by feed type, increased significantly as the level of NDF decreased. There was no effect on concentrate of blood metabolite related with protein. As the level of NDF decreased, the blood ALB concentration was increased (p<0.05). The concentration of blood CHOL was higher in CON than those of TMR (p<0.05), and increased as the level of NDF decreased. The concentration of blood lipid was higher in CON than those of TMR and increased at lower level of NDF. The concentration of blood ALT were significantly lower in T3 than T1 and T2 (p<0.05). Thus, the results of this study suggest that the feeding system and NDF level may affect the blood metabolite concentration; however, the feed intake and other nutrient levels should also be considered.

        Changes in growth performance, carcass characteristics, and meat properties of late fattening Hanwoo steers according to supplementation of rumen protected methionine and lysine

        This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of rumen-protected methionine and lysine (RPML) on the growth performance, carcass characteristics, and meat properties of Hanwoo steers. Fourteen late fattening steers were randomly assigned to either the control (commercial concentrate + rice straw) or the treatment (commercial concentrate + rice straw + 20 g of RPML/head/day) group. The average daily gain (ADG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were not different between the treatment and control group. The rib eye area was slightly but not significantly higher in the treatment group than in the control group. The back fat thickness decreased with the RPML supplementation, although not significantly, and the appearance of yield C grade was lower in the treatment group than in the control group. The marbling score was similar between the control and treatment groups. The supplementation of RPML had no effect on the physicochemical compositions, myoglobin values, Commission Internationale de l'Éclairage (CIE) color values, fatty acid composition, and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) values in the longissimus muscle. Thus, the supplementation of RPML does not any negative effects on the growth performance, carcass characteristics, and meat properties of late fattening Hanwoo steers.

        Changes in growth performance, carcass characteristics, and meat properties of Hanwoo steers according to supplementation of composite feed additive

        This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of a composite feed additive (CFA) consisting of vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, and choline on growth performance, carcass characteristics, and meat properties of Hanwoo steers. Twenty-two late fattening steers were randomly assigned to one of two dietary groups, control (commercial concentrate + rice straw) and treatment (commercial concentrate + rice straw + 50 g of CFA). Average daily gain (ADG) was 4.0% higher in treatment than that in control; however, there was no statistically significant difference. The supplementation of CFA had no effect on overall yield or quality traits of carcass. CFA had no effect on chemical composition, water holding capacity, shear force, cooking loss, or myoglobin values in longissimus muscle; however, the content of α-tocopherol was increased by supplementation of CFA (p < 0.01). The contents of α-linolenic acid and n-3 fatty acids were higher in treatment group than in control (p < 0.01). The ratio of n-6/n-3 fatty acids was decreased by supplementation of CFA (p < 0.01). The supplementation of CFA had no effect on pH or thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) values in longissimus muscle (raw); however, TBARS (cooked) values were lower in treatment group than in control during refrigerated storage (p < 0.01). Thus, the results indicate that the supplementation of CFA (vitamin C + vitamin E + selenium + choline) had some positive effects on the increase in α-tocopherol and n-3 fatty in longissimus muscle, without any negative effect on growth performance or carcass characteristics of late fattening Hanwoo steers.

        Relationship Between Blood Metabolic Profile and Milking Performance in Holstein Cows

        본 연구는 홀스타인 착유우에서 혈중 대사물질 농도와 산유 성적의 연관성을 검증하기 위해 수행하였다. 총 885두의 암소는 비유 단계, 산유량 및 산차에 따라 각각 4(비유 초기, 비유 중기, 비유 후기 및 건유기), 4(< 30, 30 – 35, 36 - 40 및 > 40 kg/일) 혹은 5(1, 2, 3, 4 및 5 산차)개의 그룹으로 배치되었다. 산유성적과 혈청 대사물질은 시험조건에 따라 수집 및 분석되었다. glucose 농도는 비유 초기 및 중기 그룹에서 낮았지만(p < 0.05), 혈청 non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA) 농도는 비유 초기 및 건유기 그룹에서 높았다(p < 0.05). 혈청 blood urea nitrogen과 Mg의 농도는 비유 후기 및 건유기 그룹에 비해 비유 초기 및 중기 그룹에서 높았다(p < 0.05). 혈청 NEFA, albumin 및 cholesterol 농도는 다른 그룹에 비해 > 40 kg/일 그룹에서 높았다(p < 0.05). 혈청 glucose, cholesterol 및 Mg 농도는 다른 산차 그룹에 비해 1산차 그룹에서 높았다(p < 0.05). 혈청 total protein 및 globulin 농도는 저산차 그룹(1, 2 및 3 산차)에 비해 고산차 그룹(4 및 5 산차)에서 높았다(p < 0.05). 따라서 본 연구의 결과에서 홀스타인 착유우의 영양 및 건강 상태를 보다 정밀하게 진단하기 위해서는 비유 단계와 산유량 및 산차를 함께 고려할 필요가 있는 것으로 판단된다. This study was conducted to evaluate the relationship between blood metabolic profile and milking performance in Holstein cows. 858 cows were each allocated to four or five groups according to lactation stage, milk yield, and parity. Milk performance and serum metabolites were collected and analyzed with respect to experimental conditions. Mean serum glucose concentration was lower in the early- and mid-lactation groups (p < 0.05), but non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA) concentration was higher in early-lactation and dry-period groups (p < 0.05). Serum blood urea nitrogen and Mg concentrations were higher in the early- and mid-lactation groups than in the late-lactation and dry-period groups. NEFA, albumin, and cholesterol concentrations were highest in the > 40 kg/d group (p < 0.05). Glucose, cholesterol, and Mg concentrations were higher in the parity 1 group than in the other parity groups (p < 0.05), and total protein and globulin concentrations were higher in the parity 4 and 5 groups than in the lower parity groups. Thus, we recommend that blood metabolic profiles be considered with lactation stage, milk yield, and parity to more accurately determine the nutritional and health statuses of Holstein cows.
