        The small clause hypothesis would be true by the Extended Projection Principle Hypothesis insisting that lexical properties be satisfied in the same way at all levels of representation: DS, SS, LF. under this view this paper's aim is to suggest that small clause constructions exhibit a pattern of syntactic behaviors. To prove this hypothesis I particularly take the PrP category and AgrP category. Hypothesizing the category Pr unifies MC and SC predication, providing a purely structural characterization of the predication relation it solves the related problem of what category to assign SCs to: a SC is simply the maximal projection of Pr. Moreover, it does so within the limitations imposed by a uniform two-level version of x'-theory. On the other hand, the AgrP category is proposed as a persuasive hypothesis on the ground that the features of [+AGR] can be found in small clauses. I claim that small clauses are properly analyzed as the maximal projections of the functional category head of verbs, adjectives, or prepositions. Providing a proposition in the small clause, the small clause is dependent on being embedded in a matrix clause for its interpretation. By this embedding, the time of the small clause is related to the time of the matrix clause. In conclusion, small clauses are incomplete sentences, sharing with other types of clauses the idea of predication. In addition to those points, they are not mere lexical phrases, but require some functional structure. The grammar of small clauses relies on the mechanisms available for other types non-finite clauses such as raising and control.

        The purpose of this paper is to report the characteristics of language and thought which the result of empirical accumulation of consciousness' revitalization shows, keeping in touch with language and culture. It is on the premise that development and generation of the function of verbal thinking between language and thought is caused by accumulation of the contact function of consciousness. Language behavior means that people give and take their own thought and emotion. It is possible to have a tie between individuals as well as a group of human society because the medium of language exists. Language is used as a means of pragmatic message aiming at common human behavior. In other words, what the consciousness of human develops in ease is due to the function of language to express thought whether it is the scope of concretion and universality, abstraction, or mathematics, which is the scope of concretion and universality, abstraction, or mathematics, which is the scope of high level of scientific thought. The consciousness of human keeps in touch with thought and language, and causes the language behavior.

        The purpose of this research is to abstract and analyze the outline on the study of the formative proces of American English. The langugge taken by John Smith to virginia in 1607 and by plymouth Fathers to Massachusetts in 1620 was the English of Sponsor and Shakespeare during the following century and a half most of the colonists that settled in New England were British. This was the first and decisive stage in the history of United States English, which, by general consent but less accurately, we call American English for short. During the Period from 1787 to the outbreak of the Civil War in 1861 New States were created west of the Appalachians and the Alleghenies, and fresh immigrants came in large numbers from Ireland and Germany many Germans settled in Pennsylvania and the Middle west. The third period, from the end of of the Civil War to the present day, was marked ethnographically by the arrival of Scandinavians, Slavs, and Italians, and the great North American Republic took shape with the attachment of French and Spanish populations, with the addition of native Amerindian tribesmen in the Middle West.Further, Negroes from, Africa have come to number over twelve millions. In vocabulary, American English alas lost certain features which has survived in British English.Americans desperately needed terms to designate topographical features different from any known in the Old World. Vocabulary differenccs between British and American English occur in certain well-defined and predictable situations, namelly when they reflect differerences in physical objects or features characteristic of the two countries, when they reflect different practices or ways of dealing with things, and when they are the product of institutional differences.they used new compounds of English words and they adapted English words to new uses and they adopted foreign words. In pronunciation, the differences between British and American pronunciation which have been dealt with thus far are alike in one respect : they represent older stages of the language, features which were originally a part of British English, which have been replaced in England by innovations but which have remained characteristic of the speech of the United States.There are several rather striking differences in the tonal melody of these two varieties of English: the range of the British Sentence, the distance from, the highest to the lowest tone, is generally greater.In contrast, the American sentence maintains afairly level tone until just before the termination. In spelling, the distinctive features of American orthography are largely a legacy bequeathed by that intrepid and energetic lexicographer Noah Webster (1758-1843)whose American Spelling Book first appeared in 1783 and whose American Dictionary of the English Language was published in1828.He was determined to effect drastic changes. Today the third unabridged edition of Webster's New International Dictionary (1961)is the official spelling guide of the Government Printing office and the accepted authority in American courts.It sanctions such spellings as -or for -our in favor, honor, humor, labor, odor and volor for British favour, honour, humour, labour, odour, and volour; -or for -re in caliber, center, fiber, meter, and theater for British calibre, centre, fibre, metre, and theatre: one consonant for two in traveler, traveling, traveled, jewelry, and wagon for British traveller, travelling, travelled, jewellers, and waggon: -s-for -c -in the nouns defense, offense, and practice for British defence, offence, and practice; and various simplifications such as ox, catalog, check, jail, mask, program, and story for British axe, catalogue, cheque, gaol, masque, programme, and storey (floor of a building)finally I describe that borrowed languages such as Indian, french, Spanish, Dutch, German, have infulence upon American English.

        소절의 명제성과 통사구조에 대한 연구

        In this paper, I argue that small clauses are properly analysed as light verb phrase(=vP), or more specifically, as the maximal projections of the functional categorial head of verbs(v0), adjectives(a0) or prepositions(p0) with providing propositionality centering on predicate phrase(=PrP) category. The reason I take the PrP category is that this category gives propositionality and the uniform structural definition to the definition of external argument and predication relation for the small clauses(=SC) and main clauses. My main point of the study of syntactic constructions of small clauses is based on vPs as presented in minimalist theory, where I present some properties unifying small clauses and distinguishing them from full clauses. Complementiser phrase(=CP) and vP are claimed to be phases in the extended projection of the verb corresponding to clauses: full clauses are CPs, small clauses vPs. This study also discusses the representation of tense properties in the small clauses and how this is implemented in the vP-analysis.

        This thesis attempts to contribute to successful foreign language teaching, English-Language teaching, and in section Ⅱ, Ⅰ presented a general theoretical background of Language learning and teaching: one is the behaviorist-oriented theory and the other is the cognitive psychology-oriented theory. Each has contributed to the field of language teaching but neither is found to be absolutely superior to the other one. By way of new methology in Language teaching based on Direct Method in section Ⅲ, Ⅰ introduced some techniques such as "Total Physical Response," "Silent Way," "Suggestopedia," "Natural Approach," Community Language Learning." "Total Physical Response" developed by James Asher has advocated listening with physical action as the only response. "Silent Way" developed by Caleb Gattegno requires the teacher to say as little as possible so that students' speaking is the principle activity. "Suggestopedia" developed by Georgi Lozanov is to induce in students a state of mental relaxation and comfort intended to maximize language learning. "Natural Approach" developed by Tracy Terrell leads to rapid acquisition of listening comprehension as well as speaking skills which is devoted to communicative activities. In "Community Language Learning" developed by Charles A. Curran, the instructor is seen as a Language counselor who restates and clarifies students' utterances, helping them to express what they want to say at a particular moment. In order to understand the changing currents of thought in Language teaching methodology, we need to recognize the effect of both influences, the theoretical and the practical, and the teacher who would choose his course wisely through the ebb and flow of the various tides of methological thought must have a perspective based on some knowledge of the source and direction of these diverse currents. In section Ⅳ, Ⅰ presented some characteristics of optimal input for foreign language acquisition as follows: 1. optimal input is comprehensible, 2. optimal input is interesting and /or relevant, 3. optimal input is not grammatically sequenced, Finally Ⅰ suggested in this thesis what the best way of teaching English should be under the circumstances of the current English education of our country.

        Small Clauses의 기능범주 분석

        The small clause (SC) is often considered a mere lexical phrase. This paper's aim is to suggest that the functional category of small clauses can be considered as incomplete sentences sharing with other types of clauses the idea of predication, and acquiring some functional structure. To prove this hypothesis I analyze the AgrP category and PrP category. SCs accounted for under the AGRP say that AGRP structure is the maximal projection with the head AGR. Therefore, AGRP structure abides by the projection principle, and maintains the unification of the subcategorization for SCs. On the other hand, the PrP category gives the uniform structural definition to the definition of external argument and predication relation for the small clause and main clause. To conclude, I offer a unified syntactic account of the small clauses mainly based on PrP structure taking the form DP+ predication, and the hypothesis that SC is assigned a theta-role.
