It is needed to install a one-way drainage filter to prevent a seepage from lake or river outside of embankment and to promote a drainage from a flood inside of embankment when dikes such as lake dike, river dike, etc are constructed. However, the results of research for one-way drainage filter are insufficient. Therefore, through the field test of one-way drainage filter, this study checked a function of one-way drainage filter with a test of performance. As a result of field test, water flow in dike was blocked in the interception direction of the section that one-way drainage filter was installed, but water passed to the flow allowance direction of the section. Therefore we confirmed the function of one-way drainage filter. Seepage quantity in the flow allowance direction of the one-way drainage filter section was low as 74.6~80.5 % than that in the section without installation of filter because of a reduction effect of seepage with filter. And seepage quantity of field test was low as 64.3~90.0 % than that in results of seepage analysis because the coefficient of permeability of embankment in field is different from the results of laboratory test. In the future, more study will be needed to solve several problems which are related to fix the filter on slide, durability of filter, etc.

As a large construction such as highway, dam, reclaimed land etc. increase in number more and more, large amount of fill materials are required. It is needed to utilize a gypsum which is a by-product yielded from chemical plants, as fill materials. Though some studies have been conducted to know a engineering characteristic of gypsum, it is not certain that water contents were checked at $45^{\circ}C$ dry oven. This study proposed that water contents must be measured at $45^{\circ}C$ dry condition because gypsum is changed to other types as a dry temperature. As the results obtained by compaction tests, it is found that moisture of gypsum in compaction must be within -5.0~2.5 % O.M.C (optimal moisture content).

A series of laboratory model tests and numerical analysis is performed to analyze characteristics of desalination and to predict a period of desalination for subsurface saturated soil in Saemanguem reclaimed area. The results show that quantity of desalination is small as salinity of water is increased. On the contrary, quantity of desalination is increased as salinity of soil is high. In order to decrease the salinity to 10 % of initial salinity of soil at depth of 2 m, it takes 11 years to desalinate the soil 50 m away from drainage ditch. For soil at depth of 1.5 m only 1 year to desalinate the soil near drainage ditch. Also, water head of 80 cm is required to desalinate to 10 % of initial salinity for 60 cm thick soil. Because the following results is based upon the Saemangeum soil, an application of this result for another field will be cautious. More research will be required on this matter.

A large-scale construction of waterproof embankment to protect inside development area from a freshwater lake in Saemangeum project will be begun in 2009. Saemangeum waterproof embankment will be over 138km length and have to be constructed to use multi-functional and eco-environmental friendly facilities. As the plan for land use of Saemangeum area, it needs that functional types of waterproof embankment is established with several zones respectively. Therefore, this study is to determine residental site of Saemangeum embankment using GIS.

This study which consist of laboratory model test and numerical analysis is to analyze a characteristic of desalination and to predict a period of desalination for a nature subsurface saturated soil in Saemanguem reclaimed area. As a results of laboratory model test, we can know that as a salinity of desalted water is higher, the quantity of desalination is little, as a salinity of soil is higher, the quantity of desalination is much. As a results of numerical analysis, the salinity of soil at depth -2m become down to 10% of initial salinity when it take 11 years in the place far from drainage way and only 1 year near drainage way. Also, 80cm of desalted water is needed for the desalination of depth 60cm of soil. This results of analysis is for Saemangeum soil. Therefore, to apply to another field, the laboratory model test which is proper to another special condition of soil will be needed. For many use of this method, more investigation, test and research will be needed.
