This paper develops and evaluates a mechanical machining process which involves drilling on PVS material. According to the material, two treatment experiments were conducted, one involving drilling in a wet condition or using a lubricant and one involving drilling in a dry condition with no lubricant. Drilling in a dry condition showed better performance in terms of the cutting time than in the wet condition. Otherwise, the wet condition has several advantages. The lubricant influenced the burr diameter size and minimized the temperature on the surface of the work piece. During the wet condition drilling process, a smaller burr diameter size was noted as compared to the dry condition. The temperature showed a linear correlation with the drill bit size, where a least-square analysis provided an R<SUP>2</SUP>valuewhichexceeded 0.95. The wet condition required more cutting time than the dry condition. In this condition, the water provides a lubrication effect. A thin layer between the cutting edges and the surface of the work piece is formed. The chip formation is affected by the drilling depth. The color on the tips of the chips was darker than in the initial condition. No correlation between the drilling depth and the bore roughness was noted, but the variation of the cutting speed or the RPM influenced the roughness of the bore. The optimum cutting speed ranged from 40 RPM to 45 RPM in the condition which provided the finest roughness surface.

Resistance welding uses the application of electric current and mechanical pressure to create a weld between two pieces of metal. Weld electrodes conduct the electric current to the two pieces of metal as they are forged together. On this research we are searching for possibility of change trailing arm produced by common welding method to newly manufactured trailing arm applied resistance welding method. for that, durability test and fracture -bending test of the sample product applied resistance welding was conducted and also analyzed as comparison with the other sample used arc welding method. finally on the purpose of the research is to get basic data of this resistance welding applications and verify possibility if we can apply this method to current automobile.

The elastic waves released by inducing vickers indentation were detected by fracture wave detector. From the result of wavelet analysis of elastic wave signal, the smooth specimen and heat-treated crack healing specimen of 0.3 ㎛ Al₂O₃ monolithic and Al₂O₃/SiC composite ceramics had characteristics of frequency about 58 ㎑. The dominant frequencies increased with increasing the amount of Y₂O₃. It is known that wave frequency of homogeneous materials is converged on around dominant frequency. The dominant frequency has direct connection with the bending strength.

Strength characteristics of $Si_3N_4$ composite ceramics has been studied as functions of heat-treatment temperature and additive $SiO_2$. $SiO_2$ colloidal could significantly increase the bending strength. Crack healing temperature decreased 300 K by additive $TiO_2$. Bending strength of specimen added $SiO_2$ is higher than that of non-added $SiO_2$. Moreover, bending strength of specimen with $SiO_2$ colloidal coating is much higher that of non-coated specimen. In in-situ observation, crack-healed specimen at 1,573 K shows phenomenon like a fog on the surface. By SPM, both crack-healed specimen, non-coating and coating of $SiO_2$ colloidal, at 1,273 K were healed completely but both of 1,573 K exist crack. This was made by evaporation of $SiO_2$ at high temperature. Crack-healing materials of $Si_3N_4$ composite ceramics is crystallized $Y_2Si_2O_7$, $Y_2Ti_2O_7$ and $SiO_2$. A large amount of Si and O, and little C were detected by EPMA. Si and O increase but C decreases according to heat treatment temperature. Specimens with additive $SiO_2$ were more detected Si and O than that of non-additive $SiO_2$. Specimen with $SiO_2$ colloidal coatings were much more detected O.
