NMR characterization of SRG3 SWIRM Domain Mutant Proteins.
2009 Journal of the Korean Magnetic Resonance Society Vol.13 No.1
SWIRM domain, a core domain of SRG3 is well conserved in SWI3, RSC8, and MOIRA family proteins. To understand structural basis for cellular functions of the SWIRM domain, we have initiated biochemical and structural studies on SWIRM domain and mutants using gelfiltration chromatography, circular dichroism and NMR spectroscopy. The structural properties of the mutant SWIRM domains (K34A and M75A) have been characterized, showing that the structures of both wild-type and mutant proteins are α-helical conformation. The data conclude that mutations at interaction sites of its binding partner protein do not affect its secondary and tertiary structure.

In this study, the influence of classroom smells (foot odor, hair smell, sour smell, and sweat smell) of male high school and sweat smell and the offensive odor substance (ammonia and butyric acid) on the electroencephalography (EEG) activities of 20 female volunteers, ranging in age from 30 to 50 were studied. The representative response of brainwave index by these smells stimuli was most pronounced on temporal lobes among the brain lobes. By comparison with background EEG activities on temporal lobes, the smells reduced the relative alpha band power (0.04∼0.13) and increased the relative beta band power (0.02∼0.06) and the relative gamma band power (0.03∼0.09). The alpha wave was deactivated, high beta (18∼30Hz) and gamma (30∼50Hz) waves were remarkably activated. The order of EEG fluctuation caused by the smell stimulus is as follows; hair smell > butyric acid > foot odor, sour smell > ammonia > sweat smell. It means that the classroom smells cause an excessive brain arousal and straining and may be reducing one`s attention and learning ability.

Intermittent left bundle branch block (LBBB) can be caused by cardiovascular disease, and in this case, it can be a factor that increases the patient's mortality, so the patient should be treated with caution. We experienced a case of bipolar hemiarthroplasty of an 87-year-old female with angina history under general anesthesia. Preoperative electrocardiography showed complete LBBB without subjective symptoms. We report a case of intermittent LBBB which changed to a normal sinus rhythm after injecting phenylephrine.

The L2 spinal nerve root block is an effective procedure for pain reduction in patients with discogenic low back pain, but relatively few cases have been published that address complication of testicular pain and ptosis associated with this intervention. We experienced a patient testicular pain and ptosis after L2 spinal nerve root block, and the patient was recovered after 2 weeks without any serious side effect In this report, the ways on how to deal with testicular pain and ptosis are discussed including brief review of the relevant literature.
