        Gestational trophoblastic tumors including choriocarcinoma bave become one of the most curable human malignancies with an overall cure rate exceeding 90%. Although systemic chemotherapy is the initial treatment for chorio- carcinoma, some patients with chemotherapy-resistant choriocarcinorna can be treated by integration of cbemotherapy, surgery and radio- therapy. We report two cases of persistent localized choriocarcinoma which was treated by surgical intervention.

      • 한국의 전통 - 우리 술 이야기

        술! 우리 주변에서 쉽게 접할 수 있는 술. 이 술이라는 말에는 어떤 뜻이 내포되어 있을까? 현재 우리가 사용하고 있는 술이라는 말은 본래 '수불'이라고 불렸다고 한다. 물과 불! 우리 선조들은 술을 빚는 과정에서 효모가 생성하는 이산화탄소에 의해 술덧(술밑) 표면에 거품이 생기는 현상을 보고는 물에 불이 붙어서 부글부글 끓어오르는 것으로 생각하고 '수불'이라고 표현한 것 같다. 어찌 보면 비약적인 해석일 수 있으나 우리 선조들이 말 속에 과학 현상을 잘 표현한 것이라 할 수도 있다. 술의 한자어인 주(酒)는 물 수(水)자와 본래 술을 뜻하는 유(酉)자가 합쳐진 것으로 '물이 익은 것' 이라는 뜻이 내포되어 술이 만들어지는 현상을 표현한 것이라면, 술이라는 말은 효모에 의해 술이 만들어지는 과정의 일부를 과학적으로 표현한 말이라고 할 수 있다. 또 이 말 속에는 끓는다는 뜻의 라틴어 'ferverve'에서 유래된 'fermentation', 즉 발효의 의미도 포함되어 있다. 이러한 뜻을 내포하고 있는 술에 대해 우리나라 주세법에서는 알코올 도수 1% 이상의 음용 가능한 것이라고 정의하고 있으나, 각각의 개인이 내리는 술에 대한 정의는 천차만별일 것이다.

        고분자전해질연료전지용 과불소계 술폰화 이오노머-PTFE 강화막

        과불소계 술폰화 이오노머(perfluorinated sulfonic acid ionomers; PFSAs)는 뛰어난 수소이온전도성과 높은 내화학성으로 인해 고분자 전해질 연료전지(polymer electrolyte fuel cells)용 고체전해질로 널리 사용되고 있다. 그러나 PFSA 전해질은 가습-건조조건에서 연료전지가 구동에 따라 반복적인 팽윤-수축으로 인해 전극층이 전해질로부터 탈리되어 전기화학적 수명특성이 감소되는 문제점을 가지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 다공성 PTFE support film의 기공특성에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 기공구조 내 나피온 이오노머를 함침시키는 강화막을 제조하였고, 기본특성을 평가하였다. 제조된 강화막은 매우 높은 수소이온전도도(${\sim}~0.5S\;cm^{-1}@90^{\circ}C$ in liquid water)를 나타내었다. Perfluorinated sulfonic acid ionomers (PFSAs) have been widely as solid electrolyte materials for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells, since they exhibit excellent chemical durability under their harsh application conditions as well as good proton conductivity. Even PFSA materials, however, suffer from physical failures associated with repeated membrane swelling and deswelling, resulting in fairly reduced electrochemical lifetime. In this study, pore-filling membranes are prepared by impregnating a Nafion ionomer into the pore of a porous PTFE support film and their fundamental characteristics are evaluated. The developed pore-filling membranes exhibit extremely high proton conductivity of about $0.5S\;cm^{-1}@90^{\circ}C$ in liquid water.

        활성조류를 이용한 SBR공정에서 유입수 농도의 영향

        N/A This study was conducted to investigate the effect of influent concentrations in SBR process using activated algae. Modified McKinney equation was applied to this study for understanding of results. Influent concentrations affect the active biomass(MaA, MaB) and Algae/Bacteria ratio. The initial Algae/Bacteria ratio of 1.0 were changed to 2.78, 2.18, 1.29 and 0.97 at Case 1(300/50/10), Case 2(300/100/10), Case 3(600/50/10), Case 4(600/100/10), respectively. COD removal efficiency were obtained above 93%, T-N removal efficiency were 49.85% and T-P removal efficiency were 12~67% without aeration, respectively. The results showed that modified McKinney equation application was useful for interpreting the activated algae processes. The results of modified McKinney equation indicated that the fraction of nitrogen removed by denitrification or stripping was increased to the extend of 75.1% with increasing CODcr. And the fraction of phosphorus removal by precipitation was increased to the extend of 77.4% with increasing CODcr.

        필립 피넬(1745-1826)의 정신의학 방법론에 드러나는 의학적 근대성

        Philippe Pinel (1745-1826) was a leading figure in the modernization of psychiatry in the early nineteenth-century. This study intensely scrutinized the modern beginnings and clues revealed in Traite medico-philosophique sur l’alienation mentale, ou la manie (hereafter called Traite), the accumulation of his methodology of psychiatry. Hippocraticism was popular among physicians of the time in France. The Traite is heavily influenced by Hippocraticism, namely in the observation and the methodology of medicine expectante. The Hippocraticism in the Traite called for modernization and innovation in psychiatry, given that bloodletting and hydrotherapy were the mainstream methods at that time. The method of observation is embodied in the hospital statistics, medical illustrations, and patient lists in the Traite. All three were the result of the actualization of the practice of observation and moral treatment in daily clinical practice. These three did not omit the existence of patients. The characteristics of modern medicine originated in these three methodological approaches and were analyzed positivistically with the goal of theoretical psychiatric research by processing raw data obtained from clinical practice. Meanwhile, the partnership between Dr. Pinel and patient/citizen, Jean-Baptiste Pussin (1745-1811), was highlighted in the Traite. In fact, the Traite can be read as a treatise of psychotic patients in the context of French Revolution. Pinel’s attitude toward non-physician Pussin in the Traite was respectful and very receptive. Pussin was found to have engaged and been involved in medical research and healthcare as a patient specialist who shared his insight into other patients. Pinel also sought to break away from his internal limitations as a medical researcher by accepting this cooperation. His observations as a doctor could no longer expect further advances in psychiatry. This collaboration was an example of patient and public involvement that emerged in modern times when both patients/citizens and healthcare professionals contributed to medicine as experts. This was reflected by the medical authority revealed within the Traite. It should be noted that this co-working model in medical research and healthcare between the two was practiced in the early nineteenth-century. The effect of the mythe de Pinel once again made an imprint on our memories, as the epic of modern medicine is rediscovered here.

        한국 전통포도주의 제조와 품질특성

        한국에서는 700년 전부터 포도주가 양조되어 왔으며, 산림경제, 증보산림경제, 임원십육지 등 많은 문헌에 기록이 남아 있으나 근세에 한국의 전통적인 포도주의 제조가 중단되었다. 한국의 전통포도주는 포도과즙에 쌀을 첨가하고 누룩으로 발효시키는 세계의 포도주제조방법과는 다른 독특한 방법으로 제조되었다. 수운잡방의 양조방법을 변형한 세가지 방법과 임원16지의 방법에 따라 전통포도주를 제조하여 제조과정의 경과를 분석하고 포도와 설탕으로 담금한 포도주와 품질을 비교하였다. 발효 7일후 Brix는 4.8~5.8로 낮아졌고 전통포도주의 알코올 함량은 9.2?11.2%로 대조구 포도주의 11.8%와 큰 차이가 없었으나, 산도는 0.93?1.20 ㎎/100 mL로 비교적 높았다. 전통포도주는 glucose와 fructose의 함량이 적고 maltose의 함량이 많았으며, 유기산중 acetic acid와 lactic acid가 많이 함유되었으며 tartaric acid, malic acid는 적었다. 찹쌀과 포도로 담금한 전통포도주의 아미노산은 0.80?0.88 ㎎/100 mL로 높았다. 적포도주의 중요한 관능적 요소인 색도는 대조구의 L값이 4.26인데 비하여 3.59?3.69를 나타내었으며, 적색도 a는 20.63?38.06이었으며 황색도 b값은 1.20?1.56이었다. 고형분 함량은 278?358 ㎎/L이었으며 전기전도도는 411~505 ㎲/㎝이었고 총 페놀화합물의 함량은 599.6?652.2 GAE ㎎/L로 로제포도주 수준이었으며 항산화활성은 각각 50.59?56.75% 수준이었다. 결과적으로 수운잡방의 제조방법에 주모를 첨가하여 제조하는 방법이 산업화가 가능할 것으로 판단되며, 일반 포도주와 비슷한 산도를 가지는 전통포도주의 제조를 위하여서는 아황산을 첨가하거나, malo-lactic fermentation을 유도하여 감산을 위한 개선된 제조방법을 적용할 경우 한국 특유의 전통포도주로서 손색이 없을 것으로 보인다. In Korea, many types of traditional grape wine have existed starting from seven hundred years ago and horse-blossom-like-grape (mayu-podo) was mainly cultivated. Korean traditional wine (KTW) was manufactured by a unique method in which grape juice-added porridge made from glutinous rice was fermented by nuruk as a starter for brewing. Unfortunately, KTW making was discontinued in 20th century; thus, restoration of Korean wine culture is needed. KTWs were prepared by four traditional methods, and their qualities were compared to commercial wine made by sugaring grape juice. Ethyl alcohol contents, total acidity, pH and amino acid of the four KTWs were 9.2?11.2%, 0.93?1.20 ㎎/100 mL, 3.02?3.48 and 0.80?0.88 ㎎/100 mL respectively. The KTWs showed higher values in total acidity and amino acid than those of commercial grape wine. KTWs were rich in maltose, acetic acid and lactic acid. L, a and b value in Hunter's color value ranged 3.59?3.69, 20.63?38.06, and 1.20?1.56, respectively. Sensory quality properties in color, flavor, taste and overall of KTWs were not different from commercial dry wine. Contents of total phenolic compounds and free radical scavenging activity using DPPH of KTWs were 599.6?652.2 ㎎/100 mL and 50.59?56.75%, respectively.

        Solid insulation exposed to voltage is degraded by electrical tree process. And the degradation of the insulation is accelerated by voltage application. For this experimental, specimen of electrical tree model is made by XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene). And the size of the specimen is 7*5*7 ㎣. Distance of needle and plane is 2 ㎜. Voltages applied for acceleration test are 12 ㎸ to 15 ㎸. And distribution characteristic of degraded stage is studied too. As a PD detecting and data process, discharge data acquire from PD detecting system (Biddle instrument). The system presents statistical distribution as phase resolved. Moreover the processing time of electrical tree is recorded to know the speed of degradation according to voltage.
