        Structural members are frequently given profiles widening toward the endes to enable the members to better resist the negative bending moment prevailing at the joints, and design calculations are usually made on the assumption that they are of uniform section, ignoring the potential effect of variation in sectional demensions. This paper considers the extent of such effect and experimentally definess the limit of the size of some such thickening of sections within which such approximate design procedures may result with sufficient engineering practicability.

        Optical Feedback by Gain Coupling in (In)GaAs/AlGaAs V-groove Quantum-Wire Lasers

        Distributed optical feedback by gain coupling in V-groove quantum-wire (QWR) lasers is investigated by using (In)GaAs/AlGaAs active materials grown by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). In order to avoid grating overgrowth during the fabrication of DFB structures, a newly developed constant MOCVD growth method is employed. Spectral gain anisotropy near the Bragg wavelength, resulting from optical feedback along the DFB direction, is clearly noted from InGaAs/AlGaAs QWR lasers at room temperature both theoretically and experimentally.

        Performance Improvement of High-Power AlGaAs Lasers

        Structure optimization of high-power 780 nm AlGaAs laser diodes (LDs) is made by engineering the distribution and the density of deep-level defects in their active and cladding layers. One of the optimized LDs shows a typical threshold current of 35 mA, maximum output power of 385 mW in pulsed mode, an internal quantum eciency of 89.9 %, an internal loss of 3.38 cm..1and a characteristic temperature of 153 K. In addition, stable continuous-wave (CW) operation is observed during screen test with little degradation for more than 10 hrs. at 100 mW and 70 C. These results indicate that defect engineering for individual layers of the LD structure is quite eective in improving the performance and reliability of high-power LDs.

        In Korea, global warming caused by the climate changes impacted on weather system with increase in frequency and intensity of precipitation, and the rainfall pattern changes significantly by regional groups. Furthermore, it is expected that the regional and annual fluctuation ranges of the rainfall in the future would be more severe. Nowadays, agricultural drainage system designed by the existing standard of 20-year return period and 2 days of fixation time cannot deal with the increment rainfall such as localized heavy rain and local torrential rainfalls. Therefore, it is required to reinforce the standard of the drainage system in order to reduce the agricultural flood damage brought by unusual weather. In addition, it is needed to improve the standard of agricultural drainage design in order to cultivate farm products in paddy fields as facility vegetable cultivation and up-land field crop have been damaged by the moisture injury and flooding. In order to prepare for the changes of rainfall pattern due to climate changes and improve the agricultural drainage design standards by the increase of cultivating farm products, the purpose of this study is to examine the impact of climate changes, the changes of relative design standard, and the analytic situation of agricultural flood damages, to consider the drainage design standard revision, and finally to prepare for enhanced agricultural drainage design standards.

        한・중 수사제도의 비교와 시사점 - 수사제도의 헌법적 근거와 수사권 비교를 중심으로 -

        The aim of this thesis is to have implications through the Comparison of the Investigation System of China and Korea. In recent years the Judicial Reform of Korea and China have been under way especially about the response of corruption crime. China established National Inspection Committee for the investigation about the corruption of the Government Officials, it progressed quickly through the discussion among the organizations concerns like the Prosecution, Police, National Inspection Committee and the National People’s Congress. The Investigation System of China has been affected from the establishment of National Inspection Committee about the range of investigation of the prosecution. Korea have plan to establish the Office for criminal investigation about the senior government official for response to the Corruption Offense after a long consultation between the ruling party and some minor parties. The adjustment of investigation rights between Police and Prosecution in Korea has been made in spite of much argument, the investigation system and ways of the adjustment of investigation rights of China can be a useful example and reference in Korea as below despite the difference of political system. First, the termination the investigation of police in China should have the convincing proof and the obviousness of the crime. The second, the Prosecutor can ask to Police the explanation of the lawfulness of the proof and supplemental investigation for two times only. The third, the Prosecution can investigate the corruption offense elastically after the investigation of National Inspection Committee in China. The forth, Police can ask reconsideration about the decision of the non-prosecution of the prosecution. The fifth, the victim can accuse personally to the court in case of the decision of non-prosecution of prosecution etc. 사법개혁은 많은 국가에서 국민들의 커다란 관심과 논의의 대상이 된다. 한국과 중국 역시 최근 검찰, 경찰(공안), 고위공직자범죄수사처(감찰위원회)를 중심으로 수사권의 권한분배와 조정이 뜨거운 논의를 불러일으켰으며 제도적 개혁이 함께 진행되었다. 한국과 중국은 각각 정치적 구조와 이념적 지향, 시민적 참여가 다르기에 헌법을 포함한 제도적 구성방식이 차이를 보일 수밖에 없는 것도 사실이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 국민의 기본권에 직・간접적으로 커다란 영향을 줄 수 있는 수사제도는 범죄수사의 효율성도 중요하지만 국민의 인권침해 방지를 위해 다양한 차원의 통제와 검증이 필요하며 동시에 범죄의 발생과 억제가 실질적이고 효과적으로 이루어질 수 있도록 구성하는 것이 요청된다. 한국과 중국의 수사제도와 관련하여 헌법적 규정사항에서부터 각 기관의 권한범위와 상호통제 및 협력사항을 살펴보고 국가 수사기관 사이의 권력분배 뿐만 아니라 국민의 효율적 감시방안에 대해서도 함께 제시해 본다.

        In<sub>x</sub>Ga<sub>1-X</sub>N/GaN 양자우물 구조의 수치 해석을 이용한 압전장 평가

        Piezoelectric fields built in I $n_{x}$G $a_1$$_{-x}$N/GaN (x=0.06∼0.1) quantum wells (QWs) have been estimated by comparing the transition energies, both calculated and measured by photoluminescence (PL). The calculation was numerically carried out with a rectangular QW model, where the effective bandgap considering a bowing facto, energy levels quantized for the lowest lying electrons and heavy holes (1e-lhh), and biaxial compressive strain were included except for the piezoelectric fields. The calculated values were observed to be larger (9∼15 meV) than the measured values by PL, which was considered to be caused by the piezoelectric fields built in InGaN/GaN QW interface. In addition, we observed the energy shift by measuring the EPDPL (excitation power-dependent PL), which was compared with the energy difference caused by the piezoelectric fields.

        내부 반사경 543 nm 헬륨 네온 레이저의 편광특성과 단일모드 동작

        단일모드 출력을 얻기 위해, 횡자장을 걸었을 때와 걸지 않았을 때 내부 반사경 543 nm 헬륨 네온 레이저의 편광특성을 조사하였다. 레이저 출력이 선편광일 때 두 개의 직교하는 편광성분을 측정하였다. 자장을 가하지 않고 레이저 주파수를 이득곡선상에서 주사하였을 경우, 편광 불안정이 크게 발생하였다. 레이저 고유편광에 대하여 35$^{\circ}$방향으로 50 gauss의 횡자장을 가하였을 때 편광 불안정을 억제할 수 있었다. 같은 조건에서 543 nm 헬륨 네온 레이저 주파수를 요오드 분자의 포화 흡수분광선에 안정화시키는데 필요한 880 MHz 대역폭 안에서 안정된 단일모드 동작을 얻을 수 있었다. The polarizatin properties of an internal-mirror 543 nm He-Ne laser with and without a transverse magnetic field were investigated for single-mode operation. Two orthogonal eigenpolarizations field to the natural tube axes of laser were observed when the emitted laser output was linearly polarized. Polarization unstability between these polarizations occurred when the applying a 500 gauss transverse magnetic field at 35$^{\circ}$ with respect to the natural tube axes of laser. Under such conditions stable single-mode operation which is useful for the frequency stabilization of a 543 He-Ne laser to $I_2$-saturated absorptions was obtained in the tuning range of 880 MHz.
