Recently, fuel cell field is receiving much attention as an environmentally friendly energy in the world. Among the various types of fuel cells, in the case of PEMFC, ions move through the membrane in the middle of the unit cell. Therefore, proper moisture is required inside the PEMFC. In the case of membrane type humidifier, flat membrane or hollow fiber membrane is mainly used. Since various parameters can change the performance, the performance investigation has to be carried out with parameters. In this study, water transport of hollow fiber membrane was investigated in terms of principle operating conditions such as temperature and flow rate.

Intracellular structures of hepatocytes and the hepatic imcrocirculation were studied in rats intoxicated with carbon tetrachloride by scanning electron microscopy. Liver tissues were treated by the DMSO cracking method and aldehyde-prefix somium-DMSO-osmium method. A rapid, easy and reproducible method to prepare plastic corrosion casts of the hepatic microcirculation employed Mercox CL-2B. The hepatocytes around the portal tracts showed minimal abnormalities. However, swollen foamy hepatocytes in intermediate zone and central zone had numerous vesicles and vacuoles, which correspond to dilated cisternae of rough endoplasmic reticula (RER) and fat droplest observed by transmission electron microscopy and aldehyde-prefix O-D-O method. And also, disorder of intrahepatic microcirculation was observed to be irregular-shaped sinusoids and distended space of Disse in acute hepatic injury. This abnormal microcirculatioin was well demonstrated three-dimensionally by scanning electron microscopy of corrosion casts.

Primary pulmonary hypertension is a rare disease and diagnosed only when the underlying causes are undetermined. Pulmonary hypertension is caused largely by an increase in pulmonary vascular resistance and is most frequently chronic pulmonary obstructive diseases, recurrent pulmonary emboli or antecedent heart diseases. We experience and report a case of primary pulmonary hypertension. The pulmonary changes show atherosclerosis in all the pulmonary arteries, medial hypertrophy, intimal proliferation and fibrosis and plexiform lesion. Plexiform lesion is characteristic in the histological diagnosis of primary pulmonary hypertension when there is no other associated disease, such as liver cirrhosis, tricuspid cardiac shunts and portal vein thrombosis.

In blunt abdominal trauma, the abdomen may be compressed and crushed without disruption of the skin, without external bruising, and yet extensive and fatal internal injuries may be present. The penetrating wounds are especially dangerous because of the possibility of grave injury to internal organs or major blood vessels. The majority are homicidal injuries: suicide by stabbing, or accidental stabbing, is infrequent. The abdominal injuries usually coexist with other-site injuries, especially with chest injuries. The homicide and the suicide often aim at the heart, in consequence wound the left side of the chest or upper abdomen. This review is discussed on the mechanism of the blunt and penetrating abdominal injury, types of injury, and significance of medicolegal aspects of the abdominal trauma.

Forklift truck is one of the dangerous machines which causes the fatal accidents most frequently. The causes of fatalities by forklift from 2008 to 2011 were analyzed. Crushing the operator when tipping over or falling off a truck were the major causes of death in this study. The purpose of this study is to show measures from the engineering point of view to prevent the forklift truck accidents. In order for that, the domestic requirement for forklift safety was compared with those of foreign and international standards. The manufacturers' opinion was also collected regarding to improve the forklift safety. Several measures were suggested in order to prevent fatalities caused by forklift.

Various clinical and histopathologic characteristics are currently used to obtain prognostic information about cervical carcinoma, but they do not predict the outcome for any individual patients. Thus, there is a need to identify additional tumor characteristics that are able to predict more accurately the outcome for an individual patient with cervical cancer. In this study, we explored the relationship between cathepsin-D expression and progression of the cervical neoplasia, the correlation between response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy and cathepsin-D expression, and we investigated if tumor cell cathepsin-D expression could serve as a prognostic factor in cervical carcinoma. Tumor tissues were obtained from 14 patients with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and 52 patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix. Cathepsin-S expression was identified by immunohistochemical methods using monoclonal antibody cathepsin-D (BioGene). Positive cathepsin-D immunoreaction in greater than 30% of carcinoma cells was scored as high expression. High cathepsin-D expression was seen in 15 of 52 invasive cancer but was absent in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. It was shown that cathepsin-D expression was independent of the rumor grade, tumor size, lymph node involvement, depth of invasion, parametrial invasion, and response to chemotherapy. In disease free survival analysis by log-rank test, cathepsin-D expression was not significantly associated with survival. These results show that cathepsin-D expression is not a clinically useful adjunct to assessment of prognosis in invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix.
