This paper discusses the development of mixes for silica fume as stabilization/solidification agents and binders for industrial wastewater residue containing organic and heavy metal contaminants. The UCS(Unconfined Compressive Strength) gradually increased to 66.7% as the silicafume content increased to 15%. The leaching of TOC and chromium decreased as more OPC was substituted with silica fume. When the mix had 5% silica fume, it retained about 85% TOC, and chromium leached out 0.76mg-Cr/g-Cr in acidic solution. Also, microstructural studies of the solidified wastes through the scanning electron microscopy/energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM/EDS) and X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the silica fume caused an inhibition to the ettringite formation which did not contribute to setting, but coated the cement particles and retarded the setting reactions. The results indicated that the incorporation of silica fume into the cement matrix minimized the detrimental effects of organic materials on the cement hydration reaction and contaminant leachability.

The environmental noise measurements were carried out in Chungnam National University(CNU) campus including interior of CNU library, and educational influences caused by the noises were investigated and evaluated in this study. According to the results of noise measurements at the several places the noise level was indicated 58 dB minimum value and 65dB maximum value. Both of these value shows higher-value as compared with environmental standard value of 50dB.

In order to investigate the human hearing sensitivities of sound the sound loudness levels for the white-noise were measured, and the results were compared with that of the pure-tone which was investigated by Fletcher and Munson. The results show that the human hearing sensitivity is higher in the lower frequency range of noise than pure-tone, on the contrary that is lower in the high frequency range of noise than pure-tone. Also the saturation phenomena of both of the white-noise and pure-tone were investigated. As a result we were able to confirm that the saturation phenomena for the white-noise were occured in 10 ㏈ higher sound intensity level for the same frequency range that of the pure-tone.

Modeling made it possible to predict the behavior of constituents and microorganisms, and microorganisms, and the changes of process variables with respect to the bed height by assuming the sludge bed zone in UASB(upflow anaerobic sludge blanket) reactor to be a series of CFSTRs(continuous flow stirred tank reactors) of which the volume is proportioned to the gas quantity passing the segmented zone. Mathematical simulations were attemped to identify the balance and distribution of the two microbial populations, which were divided into two groups of acidogenic and methanogenic bacteria, as well as the responces of reactor to the operational conditions in terms of the bed height. Considering the constituents as complex substrates composed of hydrolyzed and nonhydrolyzed materials and VFAs(volatile fatty acids), prediction of the concentration of each constituent was allowed. This reserch indicated that the UASB reactor was relatively stable to shock loading and that the lower part placed below the height of 20%-30% of the sludge bed probably served as a shock absorbing zone. About 70% of organic COD was removed in the lower 55% portion of the sludge bed height.
