<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Biodiesel production using oleaginous yeasts, such as <I>Yarrowia lipolytica</I>, has recently attracted strong attention in terms of lipid yield and productivity. However, efficient methods of lipid extraction from oleaginous yeasts are required to further improve the economic feasibility of yeast-based biodiesel production. We investigated the effectiveness of selected switchable hydrophilicity solvents (SHSs), namely, N-ethylbutylamine (EB), N-dipropylamine (DP), and N,N-dimethylcyclohexyl-amine (DMCHA), for lipid extraction from the oleaginous yeast <I>Y. lipolytica</I>. Regardless of using harvested cells or culture broth, DMCHA and EB effectively extracted lipids from <I>Y. lipolytica</I>, resulting in up to 13% higher lipid yields than that obtained by conventional organic solvent extraction using a chloroform/methanol mixture. The lipid extracts obtained by the SHSs showed fatty acid compositions comparable to that obtained with the conventional solvent, thus assuring the quality of biodiesel produced through this method. After switching processes by purging with CO<SUB>2</SUB> and N<SUB>2</SUB>, the lipids and solvents were successfully recovered, demonstrating the practicability of lipid extraction using SHSs. Consequently, this study provides an effective lipid extraction method for <I>Y. lipolytica</I> that could significantly improve energy efficiency and economic feasibility of an oleaginous-yeast-based biodiesel production process.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Lipids were extracted from <I>Yarrowia lipolytica</I> by SHSs (DMCHA, EB, and DP). </LI> <LI> DMCHA and EB showed up to 13% higher yields relative to the conventional method. </LI> <LI> Lipids were effectively extracted from both harvested wet cells and culture broth. </LI> <LI> This extraction method would improve energy efficiency and economic feasibility. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

<P>In this paper, the reverse-link interrogation range (RIR) of ultrahigh-frequency-band passive radio-frequency identification (RFID) is analyzed for single-input and single-output (SISO) and multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) systems with maximal-ratio combining in the pinhole channel, where each channel is modeled as an arbitrarily correlated Nakagami-m distribution. Under the assumptions of perfect channel estimation and no interference, the closed-form expression of average RIR is derived, involving various parameters, such as the number of antennas, correlation, reader structure, and Nakagami- m shaping factor. The results show that the employment of multiple antennas at a reader causes the received SNR to change favorably and contributes to the improvement of the average RIR. Particularly, for the bistatic structure and Rayleigh fading (m = 0 dB), a 3 × 3 MIMO-RFID system can achieve 60% gain in the average RIR compared to the SISO-RFID system. In order to consider more realistic environments, finally, we investigated the influence of interference and imperfect channel estimation on the average RIR of the MIMO-RFID system in the uncorrelated Rayleigh fading channel.</P>

The hydrodynamic interaction of two floating bodies in waves freely floating or connected by a rigid link is studied by using a boundary element method in the frequency-domain. The exact two-body hydrodynamic coefficients of added mass, wave damping and exciting force are calculated from the radiation-diffraction potential solution of the improved Green integral equation associated with the free surface Green function. The irregular frequencies in the conventional Green integral equation make it difficult to predict the physical resonance of the fluid in the gap between two bodies floating side by side. However, the improved Green integral equation employed in this study is free of irregular frequencies and always yields the exact solution of the multi-body radiation-diffraction potential boundary value problem. The 6 degree-of-freedom motions of two bodies freely floating side by side or connected parallel by a rigid link have been calculated for the incident wave frequencies ranging from 0.1 to 5 radians per second in head, left and right bow quartering seas. The 6-component load of the rigid link have also been presented.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The aim of this study was to evaluate the treatment and prognosis of gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) according to the 7th UICC/AJCC tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) system and the modified National Institutes of Health (NIH) risk classification. The study cohort consisted of 1057 patients with gastric GIST who underwent surgery between January 2000 and December 2007 from 13 institutions in Korea and 2 in Japan. Clinicopathologic characteristics, surgical outcomes, recurrence, and 5-year recurrence-free survival were evaluated.</P><P>The mean age of the patients was 58.6 years. Thirty patients (2.8%) had distant metastasis preoperatively. Median tumor size was 4.0 cm. Complete resection (R0 resection) was achieved in 1018 patients (96.3%). Eighty-six patients (8.1%) had postoperative complications, and 2 patients (0.2%) died within 30 days after surgery. According to the 7th UICC/AJCC TNM system, 5-year recurrence-free survival rates were 95% to 99% in stage I, 94.1% in stage II, 74.1% in stage IIIA, 48.6% in stage IIIB, and 50.0% in stage IV patients. On survival analysis of high-risk patients according to the TNM system, the 5-year recurrence-free survival rates were 91.6% in stage II, 74.1% in stage IIIA, and 48.6% in stage IIIB patients. Independent factors of recurrence following surgery for gastric GIST were gender, tumor size, mitotic count, and radicality on multivariate analysis.</P><P>The treatment outcome and prognosis of gastric GIST in Korea and Japan seem more favorable compared to those in Western countries. Compared to the modified NIH risk classification, the 7th UICC/AJCC TNM system is more reflective of the 5-year recurrence-free survival of patients with gastric GIST.</P>
