A Multiobjective Model for Locating Drop-off Boxes for Collecting Used Products
Ken-ichi Tanaka,Hirokazu Kobayashi,Kenji Yura 대한산업공학회 2013 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.12 No.4
This paper proposes a multiobjective model describing the trade-offs involved in selecting the locations of drop-off boxes for collecting used products and transporting these products to designated locations. We assume the following reverse flow of used products. Owners of used products (cellular phones, digital cameras, ink cartridges, etc.) take them to the nearest drop-off box when the distance is reasonably short. We also assume that owners living closer to drop-off boxes dispose of more used products than do owners living farther from drop-off boxes. Different types of used products are collected, with each type requiring its own drop-off box. A transportation destination for each product is specified. Three objectives are considered: maximizing the volume of used products collected at drop-off boxes; minimizing the cost of transporting collected products to designated locations; and minimizing the cost of allocating space for drop-off boxes. We formulate the above model as a multiobjective integer programming problem and generate the corresponding set of Pareto optimal solutions. We apply the model to an area using population data for Chofu City, Tokyo, Japan, and analyze the trade-offs between the objectives.
Multi-Channel Hybrid Acoustic Echo Canceller with Microphone/Speaker Array
Shigenobu Minami,Hirokazu Tanaka,Miki Haseyama 대한전자공학회 2009 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2009 No.7
An audio system which integrates an acoustic echo canceller (AEC) and Microphone/Speaker (MIC/SP) array is proposed. To cope with both miss-convergence of AEC due to strong cross-channel correlation (CCC) in stereo sound and echo path change by beam-forming function in MIC/SP array, Multi-Channel Hybrid AEC (MCH-AEC) which is based on PST-EC[10] method is extended to be applicable to MIC/SP array system. Since the MCH-AEC dominates system performance, CCC and acoustic echo cancellation performances (ERLE) of the method are evaluated by using computer simulations.

Background/AimsDiarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D)-like symptoms frequently occur in patients with quiescent Crohn’s disease (CD). To investigate the factors underlying IBS-D-like symptoms in patients with quiescent CD, we performed a comprehensive analysis of the clinical features and intestinal environment in those patients. MethodsWe performed a prospective observational study of 27 patients with quiescent CD (CD activity index [CDAI] ≤ 150; C-reactive protein ≤ 0.3 mg/dL). The presence and severity of IBS-D-like symptoms, health-related quality of life, disease-specific quality of life, and status of depression and anxiety were evaluated. The level of intestinal permeability, fecal calprotectin and organic acids and the profiles of gut microbiome were analyzed. ResultsTwelve of the 27 patients with quiescent CD (44.4%) had IBS-like symptoms, and these patients showed a significantly higher CDAI, IBS severity index and anxiety score than those without. The inflammatory bowel disease questionnaire score was significantly lower in the patients with IBS-D-like symptoms. There were no significant differences in small intestinal/colonic permeability or the levels of organic acids between the patients with and without IBS-D-like symptoms. Fusicatenibacter was significantly less abundant in the patients with IBS-D-like symptoms whereas their fecal calprotectin level was significantly higher (384.8 ± 310.6 mg/kg) than in patients without (161.0 ± 251.0 mg/kg). The receiver operating characteristic curve constructed to predict IBS-D-like symptoms in patients with quiescent CD using the fecal calprotectin level (cutoff, 125 mg/kg) showed a sensitivity and specificity of 73.3% and 91.7%, respectively. ConclusionMinimal inflammation is closely associated with the development of IBS-D-like symptoms in patients with quiescent CD.

Background: It has been reported that the microporous structure of calcium phosphate (CaP) ceramics is important to osteoconduction. Bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) has been shown to be a promising alternative to bone grafting and a therapeutic agent promoting bone regeneration when delivered locally. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of micro-porosity within beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) cylinders and local BMP-2 administration on β-TCP resorption and new bone formation. Methods: Bilateral cylindrical bone defects were created in rabbit distal femora, and the defects were filled with β-TCP. Rabbits were divided into 3 groups; defects were filled with a β-TCP cylinder with a total of approximately 60% porosity (Group A: 13.4% micro- and 46.9% macropore, Group B: 38.5% micro- and 20.3% macropore, Group C: the same micro- and macro-porosity as in group B supplemented with BMP-2). Rabbits were sacrificed 4, 8, 12, and 24 weeks postoperatively. Results: The number of TRAP-positive cells and new bone formation in group B were significantly greater than those in group A at every period. The amount of residual β-TCP in group C was less than that in group B at all time periods, resulting in significantly more new bone formation in group C at 8 and 12 weeks. The number of TRAPpositive cells in group C was maximum at 4 weeks. Conclusions: These results suggest that the amount of submicron microporous structure and local BMP-2 administration accelerated both osteoclastic resorption of β-TCP and new bone formation, probably through a coupling-like phenomenon between resorption and new bone formation.

Landfill management in Japan was developed more than Centuries. At industrial rapid growth era, numbers of waste were disposed with less control, such as co-disposal of Construction and Demolition waste (C&D waste) and organic Municipal Solid Wastes (MSW). Generally, Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is detectable in ppm by human as odor, but more seriously it causes toxic effect in hundreds ppm. H2S is often generated in landfill containing sulfate source (such as gypsum board) and organic waste thorough the activity of the Sulfate Reducing Bacteria (SRB). This study was carried out to investigate the emission behavior and environmental parameters related to H2S generation in a landfill under aftercare phase, which has been disposed of C&D waste, and to develop the methodology to assess the environmental situation in landfills to be monitored. This survey was also involved in the project that aim to develop the methodology of appropriate management of the landfills. The objected landfill was located nearby the river and was operated by private sector. After the “standard of landfill disposal” regulation was enforced in Japan, this landfill was closed and started to monitoring. Figure 1 shows schematic of geological section of landfill, the area of dumping was mountainous, North and Eastern side of landfill was mounted to the hill called ‘Upper Zone’. South and Western side called ‘Lower Zone’. The slope of landfill surface was from upper to lower part. The approximate landfill surface is 4000 m2. Landfill investigation was conducted on October 2017. The location for measurement of surface gas emission by static chamber method was selected by grid placing. Soil gas concentration was measured by a gas analyzer and gas detecting tube. Water quality from landfill layer in monitoring well was analyzed in laboratory. The results show H2S gas was detected 5 out of 29 grid points from 0.7 m beneath cover soil in range 0.2-800 ppm. These H2S gas concentrations were related to surface H2S emissions which emitted in range 0.3-37.7 l/m2/d. The detected H2S emitted points were located at the lower zone of this landfill. In the same area, CH4 emission were found in 10 out of 29 points in range 0.1-62.7 l/m2/d. H2S emission and CH4 emission were negatively correlated. In contrast to the lower zone, CH4 emission was detected at few points and no H2S gas was found at the upper zone. It is widely known that SRB and Methane Generating Bacteria inhabited or competitive of carbon source under anaerobic condition. Landfill gas results indicated that anaerobic degradation was comparably active in lower zone due to the existing of organic matter inside waste body. To compare biogas generation from lower and upper zone, CH4 and CO2 emissions from lower zone was about 10.1 and 3.2 times higher than that from upper zone, respectively. The higher degradation rate explain by the different amount of organic matter from upper to lower zone. Quality of inner water of landfill layer in the monitoring wells which located in lower zone were analyzed. The SO4 concentration were in range 110-710 mg/l. Low concentration of dissolved oxygen (0.68 mg/l) and remaining of organic carbon (33.7 mg/l) were confirmed in inner water of landfill. These would possibly provide condition of H2S generation. From the result, landfill gas emission still active even the landfill already close for several years. It could suggest that the intensive and log-term monitoring program for this landfill must be necessary. It was also shown that the integration of monitoring of behavior of gas emission and dissolved component must be necessary to identify the practical situation of landfills, and to apply for future investigation in terms of improving the accuracy and simplification of methodology.
