Randomized Controlled Trial for the Prevention of Falls in Community Elderly in Japan
( Takao Suzuki ),( Hunkyung Kim ) 대한운동사협회 2003 대한운동사협회 운동사대회자료집 Vol.2003 No.-
Falls are common in elderly people. Possible consequences include serious injuries and the post-fall syndrome with functional decline and limitation of physical activity. The present randomized controlled study sought to clarify the benefits of a combined long-term and home-based fall prevention program for elderly Japanese women. The subjects were individuals aged over 73 years, living at home in a western suburb of Tokyo, who had attended a comprehensive geriatric health check. Persons with a marked decline in the basic activities of daily living (ADL), hemiplegia, or missing baseline data were excluded. Fifty-two subjects who expressed a wish to participate in the trial were randomized, 28 to an exercise intervention group and 24 to a control group. Baseline data for age, handgrip force, walking speed, total serum cholesterol, serum albumin, basic ADL, visual and auditory impairments, self-rated health, and experience of falls did not differ significantly between the two groups. Beginning from June 2000, the intervention group attended a 6-month program of fall prevention exercise classes aimed at improving leg strength, balance and walking ability; this was supplemented by a home-based exercise program that focused on leg strength. The control group received only a pamphlet and advice on fall prevention. The average exercise class attendance was 75.3% (64 to 86%). Participants showed significant improvements in tandem walk and functional reach after the intervention program, with enhanced self confidence. At an 8-month follow-up, the incidence of falls was 13.6% (3/22) in the intervention group and 40.9% (9/22) in the control group. We conclude that a mild exercise intervention program plus a home-based program significantly decreases the incidence of falls in both the short and the long term, contributing to improved health and quality of life in the elderly.
Study of Flow Field and Pressure Distribution on a Rotor Blade of HAWT in Yawed Flow Conditions
Maeda, Takao,Kamada, Yasunari,Okada, Naohiro,Suzuki, Jun Korean Society for Fluid machinery 2010 International journal of fluid machinery and syste Vol.3 No.4
This paper describes the flow field and the blade pressure distribution of a horizontal axis wind turbine in various yawed flow conditions. These measurements were carried out with 2.4m-diameter rotor with pressure sensors and a 2-dimensional laser Doppler velocimeter for each azimuth angle in a wind tunnel. The results show that aerodynamic forces of the blade based on the pressure measurements change according to the local angle of attack during rotation. Therefore the wake of the yawed rotor becomes asymmetric for the rotor axis. Furthermore, the relations between aerodynamic forces and azimuth angles change according to tip speed ratio. By the experimental analysis, the flow field and the aerodynamic forces for each azimuth angle in yawed flow condition were clarified.
Electrochemical Behavior of Co-Cr alloy in Neutral Solution
Ryouji Suzuki,Kazuhiko Noda,Yusuke Tsutsumi,Takao Hanawa 한국표면공학회 2010 한국표면공학회 학술발표회 초록집 Vol.2010 No.11
The Co-Cr alloys which have an excellent mechanical property and corrosion resistance are known as one of the most important metallic biomaterials. In this study, the electrochemical behavior of Co-Cr alloy in deaerated different electrolytes was investigated by using polarization curve measurements. Ti and stainless steels (Type 316) were used as a comparing material. The Co-Cr alloy has high corrosion resistance compared with the stainless steel in NaCl solution. The current increasing with the pitting corrosion was appeared in polarization curves of stainless steels. But it was disappeared in polarization curves of Co-Cr alloy. The passive state of the Co-Cr alloys was kept even in the pitting region of the case of stainless steels. The passive film on the Co-Cr alloy is stable as same as the film on Ti. According to the polarization behavior, the Co-Cr alloys are expected to use as the biomaterials.
Efficient Foreground Segmentation for a Pan-tilt Camera Based on GMM over Walsh Spectrums
Tomoyuki SUZUKI,Takao NISHITANI 대한전자공학회 2009 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2009 No.7
This paper describes foreground segmentation from dynamic backgrounds by using pan-tilt/translation HDTV camera. That system is designed to be used for outdoor surveillance without using mosaiced backgrounds, which sometimes cause ghost foregrounds. The algorithm is based on GMM over Walsh spectrums on many blocked images. Local spectrum based foreground segmentation makes the proposed approach robust to sub pixel motions and even non pixel level calibration. Due to insensitive sub-pixel motion nature of the algorithm, the phase only correlation (POC) between subsequent frames is used for camera movement. In order not to use mosaiced background, the background model of newly appeared area is quickly constructed by accelerating adaptation speed and spatial prediction. The experimental results show stable operations.
