        Oral Administration of Novel Oriental Medicine, KIOM-C, Protect against Influenza Virus

        The influenza virus is an important respiratory risk affecting humans, and effective treatments are needed. Some oriental medicines are currently applied for treatment of common colds as well as influenza infection. Previous studies have reported that the therapeutic properties of MA-128 are effective for treatment of psoriasis antiasthmatic and atopic dermatitis. In this study, we investigated the therapeutic properties of the novel herbal medicine, MA-128, for treatment of influenza virus infection by oral administration. MA-128 is an active natural biological compound from herbal-marine origin. The results showed that oral administration of MA-128 in mice could confer a survival benefit against Type A influenza virus infection. Daily oral administration of MA- 128 resulted in delayed death in infected mice for three days against mouse adapted H3N2 (A/Philippines/2/82). However, it protected more than 60% of mice from lethal infection of 2009 pandemic H1N1 (A/Korea/CJ01/2009) influenza virus. In addition, lung viral titers were significantly reduced at seven days post infection (~100 times) compared with mock-treated mice and viruses were cleared at 9 dpi only in the MA-128 treated groups. This study demonstrated the potential of the novel herbal medicine, MA-128, as an herbal remedy against influenza A viruses.

        노래와 그림동화책을 활용한 영어교육활동이 유아의 어휘력과 이야기회상에 미치는 효과

        This study developed an English education activities for preschoolers based on songs and picture books, and explored the effect of those activities on their vocabulary acquisition and story recall. Two storybooks were used for this study, and part of the contents of the book were made into songs. Fifty one 4-5 year old children were participated in this study. Three group sessions and free activities and a few transition activities were done on one book. Receptive and expressive vocabulary tests were administered before and after the activities. Story recall tests were done after the activities. Preschoolers' knowledge of Korean vocabularies and memory span were also examined before the activities. Results show that both receptive and expressive vocabulary of preschoolers improved after the activities. Most of the subjects were able to recall the story which were made into songs very well, whereas they could hardly recall the part which were not made into songs. Their knowledge of English and Korean vocabulary was positively correlated, and it was discussed in terms of the interference of foreign language learning on mother tongue.

      • Lactobacillus aquaticus sp. nov., isolated from a Korean freshwater pond.

        <P>A Lactobacillus strain, IMCC1736T, was isolated recently from a Korean freshwater pond following an extensive study of the microbial community in this ecosystem. Its 16S rRNA gene was sequenced and phylogenetic analysis placed this strain within the Lactobacillus salivarius group, closely related to Lactobacillus satsumensis NRIC 0604T, with 97.9% sequence similarity. In the present work, the taxonomic status of strain IMCC1736T has been re-evaluated. It was characterized phylogenetically, genotypically and phenotypically and, based on DNA-DNA hybridization values, this strain represents a novel Lactobacillus species. Strain IMCC1736T can be differentiated genotypically from its closest relatives by randomly amplified polymorphic DNA analysis and ribotyping patterns; phenotypically, it can be distinguished by its inability to grow in 5% NaCl and at pH 3.3 and by certain carbohydrate fermentations. Strain IMCC1736T is Gram-positive, catalase-negative and microaerophilic. Cells are motile rods and show homofermentative metabolism. The name Lactobacillus aquaticus sp. nov. is proposed, with strain IMCC1736T (=CECT 7355T=DSM 21051T) as the type strain.</P>

        As a result of research on the present condition of the department relating to food at the junior college as of 1987 in our country, the number of the departments are 23 cases and the full-time professors are 132 persons and the number of students are 3,760 persons. This study can see that our country has attached importance to food science education as fourfold in the number of students comparing with that of 1971. The character of the curriculum is different according to its systems, but it has the subject that need to train the major technicians and graduating students advance into each field. Because of great many of students who are trained in a field of food science, it can be said that further the food industry and the development of food science have good prospects. Food science is recognized as important thing to everyone due to a serious problem of food in accordance with the population growth and gradual scientific propulsion of the national dietary life. With the basis of the analytical about the curriculum of the department relating to the food of university and junior college in internal and external and the result that is analyzed students and teachers' replies by the questionaire, this study makes out a model plan of te curriculum in junior college like table 14. Though the curriculum is ideal and perfective, as if it is not governed well nothing can be obtained, the other way also even though the curriculum is not perfect, if the mystery of management is praciced, a good results can be getting. Especially modern creative way of field practice makes students themselves set up purpose to learn and look for its meaning, and as experimenting and confirming their own thought and ability through solution of problem it helps to get developed and made up theirs own self. Therefore constitution of course of the field pratice is established centering around the experence of students to set studying purpose. It is continuously managed to do the ideal studying by change of a time and demand of society, and also should be recognized to build up ability that judge and decide as theorizing a lot of knowledge on the conceptional and theorical basis. In the way that the department of food processing at a junior college should improve, improvement of educational equipment is urgent, then the cost of equipment should be secured and the curriculum should be improved. Finally, thank for every junior college who cooperate with this study and such study for more better fixed curriculum will be continued after this report. So there will be sufficient results.

      • 복령(茯笭)의 지방산 조성 및 항미생물 활성

        The various components and antimicrobial activities of Pona cocos were studied to obtain the basic data as giving many applications. In the results of analysis of fatty acids compositions, it consist of stearic acid as saturated fatty acid, and oleic acid, linoleic acid as unsaturated one. The Pona cocos was extracted with methanoi and its extracts were determined to be antimicrobial activities against bacteria and yeast. Methanoi extracts of the Poria cocos showed stronger antimicrobial activities on Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis. Bacillus subtilis, Micrococcus luteus, Leuconostoc mesenteroides, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa than control, benzoic acid. In conclusion, Poria cocos extracts showed antimicrobial activities and will be required to isolate and identify substance with antimicrobial activity as functional materials.

        최근 몇 년간 유비쿼터스 서비스를 구현하기 위한 핵심 기술 중 하나인 무선 센서 네트워크에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 무선 센서 네트워크 기술은 물류, 유통, 환경 감시, 홈오토메이션, 군사 분야 등 다양한 분야에 적용 될 수 있기 때문에 앞으로 관련 분야의 시장 또한 커질 것으로 예상되고 있다 [1]. 무선 센서 네트워크는 기존 유선 센서 네트워크나 무선 네트워크 환경과는 많은 차이를 가진다. 우선 극도로 제한된 시스템 자원만을 가질 수 있으며, 열악한 환경 속에서 무선매체를 통해 유기적으로 동작하여야 하는 특징을 가지고 있다. 적게는 수십 개에서 많게는 수백, 수천 개의 자율적인 하드웨어 노드들로 구성되는 무선 센서 네트워크에서 제한된 자원을 효과적으로 활용하기 위해서는 센서 노드에 적합한 운영체제가 필수적으로 요구된다. 지난 몇 년간 센서 노드하드웨어의 발달과 더불어 많은 센서 네트워크용 초소형 운영체제가 개발되어왔다. 현재 많이 알려져 있는 센서 네트워크용 OS로는, 가장 활발한 참여를 보이고 있는 TinyOS[3]부터 SOS[4], MANTIS[5], Contiki[6], T-kernel[7] 등이 있으며, 국내 기술로 개발된 Nano-Qplus[8] 등이 존재한다. 본고에서는 우선 센서 네트워크에 대한 배경 지식과 플랫폼 등에 대한 내용을 간단히 다루고, 본론에서 센서 네트워크용 운영체제가 가져야 할 조건과 현재 개발되어 있는 센서 네트워크 OS들의 특징에 대해 간략히 살펴보도록 하겠다. 또한 센서 네트워크 OS와 밀접한 연관성을 가지는 분야에 대해 간단히 살펴보고, 마지막으로 앞으로의 방향에 대해 알아본다.고려해 볼 때 atlas의 장축의 시계방향 회전은 액티베이터의 사용 효과로 생각되며, 이는 차후 II급 부정교합자에서 액티베이터 치료 효과를 판단하는 또 하나의 지표가 될 수 있다고 생각한다.인해 한반도를 포함한 동아시아 대륙이 태평양판 쪽으로 밀려감으로써 섭입하던 태평양판의 각도가 급해져 동아시아 연변에 강력한 흡입력이 발생하였으며, 이 때문에 태평양판의 운동 방향이 북북서에서 서북서방향으로 회전되었을 가능성이 있다. 따라서 약 51 Ma부터 한반도 동남부에는 지판 경계의 강력한 흡입력으로 동서 내지 서북서-동남동의 인장력이 작동되어 B그룹 암맥군이 관입한 것으로 해석된다.Ledge는 세 군 모두에서 나타나지 않았다. 4. 파일 binding 횟수는 MC군이 가장 적고 PT군이 가장 많았다 (p < 0.05). 이상의 결과를 볼 때, Mtwo 전동 파일을 crown-down technique으로 사용하는 것이 single length technique과 유사한 성형 효율을 보이면서도 더 안전할 것으로 추정된다.고 1명(3%)에서 원격전이를 보였다. 치료 중 급성 합병증으로 11명(37%)에서 RTOG grade 1-2의 장염을 보였으며 1명은 대장의 천공이 발생하여 수술로 치유되었다. 12명(40%)에서 RTOG grade 1-2의 급성 방광염을 보였다. 3명(10%)에서 RTOG grade 1-2의 백혈구 감소증이 보였으며 1명에서 심한 백혈구 감소증(RTOG grade 4)이 나타났으나 회복되어 치료를 완료하였다. 만성 합병증으로 5명(15%)에서 RTOG grade 1-2의 만성 장염을 보였으며 별다른 치료 없이 지내고 있으며

        흡착튜브를 이용한 가스상물질 채취용 펌프의 유량성능 평가방법

        Objectives: Flow rate stability is very important for obtaining reliable measurements. However there is no easily used method for checking whether the flow rate set at the initial stage is sustained during sampling. The purpose of this study was to develop a method to evaluate the flow rate performance of gas sampling pumps with adsorbents commonly used to sample gases. Materials and methods: We tested the back pressure of gas sampling pumps commonly used in Korea with adsorbents such as charcoal and silica tubes and attempted to discover the combination conditions of adsorbents in accordance with back pressure required by ISO standard 13137. Results: We found the combination of sampling adsorbents to be applicable to the pressure drop required by the ISO standard for evaluating flow rate stability under increasing pressure drop and long term (eight-hour) performance. Conclusions: This evaluation method of using a sampling media matrix for checking flow rate stability as proposed by this study could be a highly useful tool for determining the reliability of the performance pumps before sampling.

      • Determination of Matrine in Rat Plasma after Oral Administration of Novel Korean Herbal Medicine KIOM-MA128 and Application of PK

        <P>KIOM-MA128 is a novel Korean herbal medicine with antiatopic, anti-inflammatory, and antiasthmatic effects. Matrine is thought to be a potential chemical marker of KIOM-MA128, but pharmacokinetic studies on KIOM-MA128 had not been performed. This study describes a simple and rapid method using high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) to determine the concentration of matrine in rats plasma after administration of KIOM-MA128. The isocratic mobile phase consisted of methanol and distilled water, and the flow rate was 0.15 mL/min. The accuracy and precision of the assay, as well as stability tests, were performed in accordance with FDA regulations for the validation of bioanalytical methods. The half-life and <I>T</I><SUB>max</SUB> of matrine after administration of KIOM-MA128 were 4.29 ± 2.20 h and 1.8 ± 1.23 h, respectively. <I>C</I><SUB>max</SUB> and AUC<SUB>inf</SUB> of matrine after administration of KIOM-MA128 at 4 g/kg and 8 g/kg were 595.10 ± 182.91 ng/mL, 5336.77 ± 1503.84 ng/mL·h and 850.46 ± 120 ng/mL, 9583.10 ± 888.92 ng/mL·h, respectively. The validated method was successfully applied to a pharmacokinetic study in rats after oral administration of KIOM-MA128.</P>

      • A Novel Herbal Medicine KIOM-MA Exerts an Anti-Inflammatory Effect in LPS-Stimulated RAW 264.7 Macrophage Cells

        <P>KIOM-MA was recently reported as a novel herbal medicine effective for atopic dermatitis and asthma. In this study, we have demonstrated the inhibitory effect of KIOM-MA on proinflammatory mediator produced in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. KIOM-MA significantly inhibited the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) as well as nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E<SUB>2</SUB> (PGE<SUB>2</SUB>). Consistent with the inhibitory effect on PGE<SUB>2</SUB>, KIOM-MA suppresses the LPS-induced migration of macrophages and gelatinase activity and the expression of matrix metalloprotease-9 (MMP-9) in a dose-dependent manner. Additionally, KIOM-MA showed a strong suppressive effect on the inflammatory cytokines production such as tumor necrosis factor-<I><I>α</I></I> (TNF-<I><I>α</I></I>) and interleukin-6 (IL-6). We also found that KIOM-MA inhibits the activation of nuclear factor-<I><I>κ</I></I>B (NF-<I><I>κ</I></I>B) and represses the activity of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), p38, and c-Jun NH<SUB>2</SUB>-terminal kinase (JNK) mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs). Taken together, we elucidated the mechanism of anti-inflammatory effect of KIOM-MA using RAW 264.7 cells stimulated by LPS.</P>

        유아음악과 언어의 통합교육에 대한 이론 및 교수방법에 관한 문헌연구

        본 연구는 유아교육분야에서 유아음악과 언어의 통합교육의 바람직한 방향을 모색하기 위하여 음악과 언어의 학문적 연관성을 알아보며, 유아언어·음악 통합교육의 교수방법을 검토하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 음악과 언어의 학문적 연관성을 알아보기 위해서 음악과 언어의 유사성과 차이점에 관한 국내외 경험적 연구와 뇌과학 연구를 검토하였으며, 구체적인 교수방법을 알아보기 위해서 최근 10년간 국내 학술지에 발표된 유아언어·음악 통합교육 연구중에서 음악과 언어를 통합하여 프로그램을 구성한 연구 58편을 검토하였다. 언어가 구체적,기능적이며, 음악은 추상적, 심미적이라는 차이점이 있으나, 음악과 언어의 구성요소와 구성원리가 유사하였다. 음악은 우뇌, 언어는 좌뇌에서 담당한다는 전통적인 생각과 달리 음악과언어는 활동에 따라 좌뇌와 우뇌에 걸친 여러 영역이 활성화되었다. 청지각능력과 리듬능력,그리고 구문능력은 음악과 언어활동을 하는데 공통적으로 필요했으며, 뇌에서 작동하는 부위도 유사하였다. 최근 10년간 발표된 유아음악·언어통합교육 연구는 노래, 음악감상, 음악극,동화를 중심으로 활동을 구성하였으며, 유아음악능력이나 언어능력뿐 아니라 감성지능, 사회성 등에 긍정적인 영향이 있었다. 통합교육의 교육적 효과는 두 학문 분야의 유사한 특성이 있을 때 촉진되었으나, 두 학문분야의 상이한 특성이 서로 보완하여 유아의 흥미와 동기를 높이기도 하였다. This study aims to establish theoretical rationale for the integration of language and music in early childhood education, and to review teaching strategies and the effect of the integration on children’s development. Empirical studies and brain researches are reviewed to identify the similarity and difference between language and music. Fifty eight domestic studies using programs integrating language and music published last 10 years are reviewed to find out teaching strategies of integrating language and music and their effect on children’s development. Recent brain researches found that language and music share some cognitive processing abilities, such as auditory perception, syntactic ability, rhythmic ability, and that music activates many different parts of the brain depending on the musical activities. The programs integrating language with music in early childhood education are focused on songs, listening to classic music, music drama, story, etc., the effects of which are musical ability, language ability, social ability, and emotional intelligence, etc. Similarities between language and music serve as theoretical rationale for the integration of language and music. Language and music share some properties such as volume, tempo, pitch, rhythm, and as words are composed into phrases, notes are composed into musical phrases. These common properties make it possible to create “song”, which attracts so many people as well as children. Differences as well as similarities also became a rationale for integration. Some children who are not good at language but good at music can be taught language with musical approach.
