Surface roughness is widely used as an index for processing degree of accuracy. Recently, regression analysis to predict the machining results are actively used to characterize a cutting operations. In the past, diamond machining had been used for ultra precision cutting operation, but now industrial diamond tools like PCD(Polycrystalline Diamond) have been widely used in ultraprecision machining of nonferrous metals. In this study, the authors focus on the effect of PCD tool property on the surface roughness of Al5083 aluminum alloy after cutting process by CNC operated lathe. Based on the regression analysis approach on a surface roughness data obtained by experiment, predictive analysis of surface roughness is effective to achieve better surface quality.

차량 라이트 가이드용 STAVAX 금형 가공 시 절삭조건 변화에 따른 표면 거칠기 분석에 대한 연구

Recently, halogen lamps for vehicle exterior lamp systems are being replaced by LEDs (Light Emitting Diode) in consideration of miniaturization, power consumption, life, luminance, and eco-friendliness. Due to regulations on the amount of light required, luminance, light uniformity, and glare prevention, it is required to develop a light guide for controlling a light source of an LED lamp for a vehicle. For the development of the light guides, the development of machining technology that can cut micro patterns of hundreds of micrometers scale into surface roughness of tens of nanometers scale must be preceded. In this study, the effect of variations in cutting conditions on surface roughness was analyzed through experiments. The micro patterns was manufactured by cutting into STAVAX material, and the surface of the micro patterns was super-finished using a ball-shaped PCD (polycrystalline diamond) tool without flutes. In experiments, the cutting conditions of the super-finishing process were varied, and the varied cutting conditions were feed rate, radial depth of cut, and spindle speed.

Tungsten carbide (WC) circular saws have been widely used to cut plywood. Recently, expensive polycrystalline diamond (PCD) were adopted to extend the tool life of circular saws. This study developed a PCD-WC combination circular saw and compared its performance with that of existing WC and PCD saws. Flank wear of WC saw blades and edge chipping of rectangular PCD was observed during the experiments. The PCD-WC saw replaced half of the chamfered teeth with PCD and applied tough WC for all rectangular teeth. In the experiments, edge chipping was not observed in rectangular WC teeth and the flank wear of chamfered teeth was decreased compared with that of conventional circular saws.
디스크 공구를 이용한 초경합금의 미세 홈 가공에 대한 연구

Recently, the demand for micromachining of hard materials has been increasing. Machining microholes, grooves, and structures in hard materials such as tungsten carbide is very difficult. In this study, the machining characteristics of amicrodisk tool for microgroove machining of tungsten carbide were studied. Microtools made of polycrystalline diamond (PCD) were fabricated using wire electrical discharge grinding (WEDG) to machine high-hardness tungsten carbide. Rectangular and V-shaped disk tools were fabricated by WEDG with controlled wire paths. In the micro grooving of tungsten carbide, the effects of capacitance and feedrate on the surface roughness of microgrooves and the wear of disk tools were studied. As the capacitance and feed rate decreased, the surface roughness decreased and no significant wear was observed in the PCD tool. However, an increase in tool edge radius of several micrometers was observed.
삽입금속 종류에 따른 초경합금의 확산접합 인장강도 특성 분석

This paper describes an analysis of diffusion-bonded cemented carbide (WC-Co) through the filler metal of sheet and paste-type. Diffusion bonding is process whereby two materials of WC-Co alloy are pressed together at high temperature and high pressure for a sufficient period of time for significant atomic diffusion to occur for smooth progress used filler metal of nickel alloy at the interface. The two WC-Co materials were manufactured for tensile test specimen. And diffusion bonding process has proceed by vacuum heat furnace. Optical microscopy were used to observe the copula of bonded surface. And boned WC-Co proceed tensile test. As a result, when using the sheet-type filler metal, it is possible to obtain the results of tensile strength that is superior to the case of using a paste-type filler metal.
