        What Is It to Be Mentally Healthy from the North Korean Refugees’ Perspective?: Qualitative Research on the Changes in Mental Health Awareness among the North Korean Refugees

        Objective We investigated how mental health awareness among North Korean refugees transformed depending on temporal-spatial context changes. Methods In 2013, we conducted interviews with 10 refugees (eight women) who had been in South Korea for over a year and performed a qualitative analysis of the change in mental health awareness in the differences between living in North Korea, escape (a related period of forced sojourn in a third country), and settlement in South Korea. Results We classified 39 concepts into five main categories. The first two categories (while living in North Korea) were “a mindset for the system, but not for individual mental health” and “being confined in a social environment that was indifferent to mental health.” A third category appeared during escape: “focusing on survival amid continuity of intense suffering.” The final two categories appeared when settling in South Korea: “recognition of mental health amid cultural shock” and “introspection and sorting oneself out.” Conclusion This qualitative study enabled a better multi-dimensional understanding of the social and cultural aspects involved in improving mental health awareness among North Korean refugees in South Korea. It is desirable to integrate mental health as a part of daily life and to expand training for North Korean settlers.

        2013 학생 정신건강 지역협력모델 구축·지원 사업

        Objectives:The purpose of this study was to examine the results of the 2013 students’ mental health school-community cooperative model. This study investigated teachers’ awareness of change in school environment and analyzed the follow-up conditions of students. Methods:The sample consisted of 55 schools which participated in the 2013 students’ mental health school-community cooperative model. Two questionnaires were used : one was composed of items about mental health resources, school policy and practice, school climate and community referral, and the other was on management of follow-up conditions for high risk students. Results:First, teachers’ awareness regarding school mental health resources, school policy and practice, school climate, and community referral showed positive change. That is, the 2013 students’ mental health school-community cooperative model works for improving teachers’ interest, awareness and effort regarding mental health. Second, students, who were found by screening test and observation, were managed continually. Most students received follow-up interventions at school, and half of the students were referred to a specialized institution such as a mental health clinic, Wee center, personal counseling center, community welfare center, and so on. Conclusion:This study was a preliminary research, therefore follow-up studies are required in order to accomplish the 2013 students’ mental health school-community cooperative model.

        정서인식의 명확성과 인지적 정서조절이 정신건강에 미치는 영향

        This study examined the influence of emotion awareness and cognitive emotion regulation to mental health through structural equation modeling. A sample of 383 undergraduate students(180 men, and 203 women) completed Emotional Clarity subscale of Tait Meta-Mood Scale, Negative Mood Regulation Scale, Cognitive Emotional Regulation Questionnaire, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory, Somatization subscale of Symptom Checklist-90-R, and Index of Subjective Well-being Scale. The structural equation modeling with AMOS was employed for analysis. In the hypothesis model, it was assumed that emotional clarity would be mediated with mental health by cognitive emotion regulation as well as that emotional clarity would effect on mental health. Partial mediation model was compared with liner mediation model and simple additive model. The partial mediation model was adopted because of its high goodness of fit and high explanatory power. In this model, the mediating effect of cognitive emotion regulation was found in the relation, so that the hypothesis was supported. That is, this model showed that there was not only the direct effect of emotional clarity on mental health but also the indirect effect of cognitive emotional regulation on the relation between emotional clarity and mental health. These results suggest framework that understands potential mechanisms in the relation between emotion and mental health. Moreover, these findings can be applied to therapy for a useful prevention and intervention. 본 연구의 목적은 정서인식과 인지적 정서조절이 정신건강에 미치는 영향을 확인하는데 있다. 이에 선행 연구의 결과를 토대로 정서인식의 명확성이 정신건강에 영향을 주는 직접효과와 인지적 정서조절을 통해 정신건강에 영향을 주는 간접효과를 모두 포함하는 부분매개 모형을 설정하여 타당성을 검증하였다. 대학생 383명(남 180, 여 203)을 대상으로 정서인식의 명확성, 정서조절에 대한 기대, 인지적 정서조절, 불안, 우울, 신체 증상, 주관적 안녕감을 측정하는 질문지를 실시하였고, 구조방정식 모형 검증(AMOS)을 하였다. 주장 모형인 부분매개 모형 그리고 대안 모형인 완전매개 모형과 단순가산효과 모형을 비교 분석한 결과, 주장 모형인 부분매개 모형이 모든 경로계수가 통계적으로 유의했으며, 만족스러운 수준의 부합치를 보여 변인 간의 관계를 가장 잘 설명하는 타당한 모형으로 입증되었다. 이러한 모형 검증은 선행연구에서 제시되고 있는 정서인식과 정서조절 그리고 정신건강간의 단편적인 관계에 대한 포괄적이면서도 간명한 인과적 설명을 제시하며, 실제 생활 장면에서 작용하는 기제를 설명해준다. 따라서 이러한 결과는 정서와 정신건강간의 관계를 이해하는 틀을 마련해줄 뿐 아니라, 개인이 적응적인 정서조절을 사용함으로써 건강하고 만족된 삶을 누릴 수 있도록 도울 수 있도록 하는 정신건강을 위한 예방과 개입에 함의를 가진다.

        학교 기반 정신건강증진 및 학교폭력 예방 프로그램 단기적 실시의 효과에 대한 예비연구

        Objectives:The purpose of this study is to evaluate the preliminary effects of school-based short term mental health awareness and school bullying prevention programs. Methods:From April to December 2013, the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Promotion team of Seoul National Hospital conducted school-based short term social skill training (N=56, 4 sessions), mental health awareness (N=84, 4 sessions) and school bullying prevention programs (N=171, 1 session) in elementary and junior high schools located in Seoul. The changes in the subjects before and after the program were assessed. Results:The a social skills training program improved the ‘helping’ behaviors in boys (t=-2.355, p<.05) and ‘sharing’ (t=-3.223, p<.01), ‘cooperation’ (t=-2.235, p<.05), and ‘comforting’ (t=-2.830, p<.01) behaviors in girls, assessed using the Prosocial Behavior Questionnaire. The mental health awareness program improved ‘general health awareness’ (t=2.620, p<.05), measured using the Korean General Health Questionnaire. The school bullying prevention program resulted in decreased ‘self esteem’ (t=3.769, p<.01), measured using the Self Esteem Scale and decreased ‘anger’ (t=4.198, p<.01), assessed using the Novaco Anger Scale. Conclusion:The results of our preliminary analysis suggest that school-based mental health awareness and school bullying prevention programs may be effective even when conducted for a short term. Future investigation is necessary in order to validate the long term effects of these programs.

        작업치료(학)과 재학생 대상으로 정신건강작업치료사에 대한 인식도와 요구도의 상관관계 및 인식도가 요구도에 미치는 영향

        목적: 본 연구는 작업치료학 전공 재학생들의 인식도와 요구도를 조사하고 상관관계 및 인식도가 요구도에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하고자 한다. 연구방법: 2021년 8월 31일부터 9월 15일까지 연구 참여에 동의한 208명의 작업치료(학)과 재학생들을 대상으로 온라인 설문을 통해 설문 조사를 진행하였다. 설문지는 문헌고찰을 통해 본 연구의 취지에 맞게 개발하였으며 내적 일치도를 통해 신뢰도를 검증하였다. 일반적 특성을 분석하고 인식도와 요구도의 상관성 및 미치는 영향에 대해 상관분석과 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 결과: 인식도와 요구도 간의 상관관계 분석결과, 인식도와 요구도의 관련성은 직업인식도와 실습요구도의 관계, 직업인식도와 취업요구도의 관계를 제외한 모두가 통계적으로 유의하게 나타났으며 양적(+) 상관관계를 가졌다. 단순선형 회귀분석 결과, 인식도는 β=0.342(p<.001)으로 나타나 요구도에 영향을 미친다고 할 수 있으며 33.1%의 설명력을 가졌다. 또한 β가 양적(+)이므로 정신건강작업치료사에 대한 인식도가 증가하면 학생들의 요구도도 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 결론: 정신건강 작업치료사에 대한 작업치료 전공 학생들의 인식도가 증가하는 요구도에 맞춰서 학생 교육 과정을 개발해야 한다. 향후 정신건강 분야의 실습을 경험한 학생들을 대상으로 후속 연구가 이루어져야 할 것이다. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the awareness and demands of students majoring in occupational therapy and the correlation between and effect of awareness on the demands. Method: 208 students majoring occupational therapy in college or university who agreed to participate in the study answered a survey through online from August 31 to September 15, 2021. The questionnaire was developed according to the purpose of this study through literature review, and reliability was verified through internal consistency. After analyzing general characteristics, correlation and regression analysis were performed on the correlation and influence between awareness and demand. Result: As a result of analyzing the correlation between awareness and demand, all of the relationships between awareness and demand were statistically significant and had a positive (+) correlation. Yet, the relationship between job awareness and practice demand, and between job awareness and job demand were not correlated. As a result of simple linear regression analysis, the awareness level was β=0.342 (p<.001), which could be said to have an effect on the demand. The effect had an explanatory power of 33.1%. Also, since β is positive (+), it was found that as the student’s awareness of mental health occupational therapists increase, the students' demands also increase. Conclusion: The student curriculum should be developed to meet the growing needs of occupational therapy students for mental health occupational therapists. In the future, follow-up studies should be conducted targeting students who have experienced practical training in the field of mental health.

      • 직장인의 정서 자각, 표현, 표현갈등, 지지와 정신건강의 관계

        The purpose of this study is to identify the relations of emotional awareness, emotional expressiveness, ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and emotional support to mental health of the employed. In Study 455 employed(256 males, 199 females) of Seoul and capital region completed this measure along with questionnaire measures of emotional awareness, emotional expressiveness, ambivalence over emotional expressiveness, emotional support and mental health. This study found significant the relations of emotional variables and mental health of the employed. Ambivalence over emotional expressivness predicted mental health most well. Emotional expressivness is negatively related to problem of mental health in correlation analysis. When emotional expressivness, ambivalence over emotional expressivness, emotional awareness and emotional support went into multiple regression analysis, emotional expressivness and ambivalence over emotional expressivness are positively related, emotional awareness and emotional support are negatively related to problem of mental health. Potential implications and limitations of this study are discussed.

        정신보건시설 종사자의 인권의식에 관한 탐색연구

        This study with emphasis on protecting human rights of people with mental disorder investigated human rights awareness among mental health workers and identify factors affecting their awareness. Questionnaires were sent out to employees working in mental health facilities in all parts of the country and of those 1094 were used to analyze. According to the analysis, employees' human rights awareness was ranked highest in the areas of occupational therapy and lowest in the areas of admission and discharge. Those who are women, aged between 30 and 40, highly educated, with long tenure, employed as social workers and working at rehabilitation programs presented high awareness of human rights so did employees with license in mental health and training experience in human rights. The result also presented negative correlation between employees' human rights awareness and their prejudice against people with mental disorder. Through this study, guidelines will be set up to help employees acknowledge the importance of human rights awareness and raise their awareness to promote and practice human rights of people with mental disorder.

        도시여성직장인의 요가수련정도와 신체자각 및 정신건강의 관계

        본 연구의 목적은 요가에 참여하는 도시 여성 직장인 177명을 대상으로 요가 수련 정도가 신체자각과 정신건강에 미치는 영향을 확인하고 신체자각이 정신건강에 영향을 미치는지를 알아보는 것이다. 본 연구에서 수집한 자료를 활용하여 빈도분석과 신뢰도 및 타당도 검증, 기술통계분석, 상관관계분석, T-test, one-way ANOVA, 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 이러한 절차를 거쳐 다음과 같이 결과를 도출하였다. 첫째, 요가 수련 참여 정도에 따른 신체자각은 부분적으로 집단 간 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 요가 수련 참여 정도에 따른 정신건강은 부분적으로 집단 간 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 신체자각은 정신건강에 부분적으로 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이처럼 본 연구에서는 요가수련은 도시 여성 직장인들의 신체자각과 정신건강에 효과가 있는 것으로 해석할 수 있다. 본 연구에서 나타난 결과를 토대로 다양한 스트레스 요인에 노출되어 있는 도시 여성 직장인의 신체적, 정신적 건강 답보를 위한 방안으로 요가 수련의 효과성에 대한 이론적 근거를 제공하였다. The study aimed to examine the effects of yoga training on body awareness and mental health in 177 female office workers in urban areas and to assess whether body awareness affects mental health. The data collected were used to conduct a frequency analysis, reliability and validity verification, descriptive statistics analysis, correlation analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVAs, and regression analysis. The results revealed the following: First, the degree of body awareness according to the level of participation in yoga training was significant. Second, the relationship between mental health and the level of participation in yoga training was also identified as significant. Third, body awareness was observed to have a positive effect on mental health in certain areas. Therefore, this study shows that yoga training affects the body awareness and mental health of female office workers in urban areas. Furthermore, it has provided the theoretical basis on the effectiveness of yoga training as a countermeasure to the stagnant physical and mental health of female office workers in urban areas who are exposed to various stress factors.

        중년여성의 성역할 인식이 정신건강에 미치는 영향: 자아존중감 매개효과

Middle-aged women’s gender role perception affects self-esteem and mental health, and gender role perception mediates self-esteem and affects mental health. Through this study, it was found that the more flexible the gender role perception was, the higher the mental health and self-esteem, and these variables had a partial mediating effect. This study is significant in that it empirically investigated the effects of middle-aged women’s gender role perception and self-esteem on their mental health. With reference to this, it is desired to develop and study programs that create a more egalitarian adult-conscious social atmosphere and increase self-esteem for the mental health of middle-aged women.         유아교사의 정보윤리의식과 정신건강간의 관계에서 미디어 중독의 다중매개효과

        본 연구는 유아교사의 정보윤리의식과 정신건강, 미디어 중독 간의 관계를 인식하고, 유아교사의 정보윤리의식과 정신건강과의 관계에서 미디어 중독(인터넷 중독, 스마트폰 중독)의 다중매개효과를 알아보는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 부산, 경남 에 소재하고 있는 유치원 및 어린이집 38개 기관의 유아교사 288명을 대상으로 결과를 최종 분석하였다. 그 결과 유아교사의 정보윤리의식은 미디어 중독에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 정보윤리의식은 정신건강에도 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타 났다. 또한 미디어 중독이 정신건강에 미치는 영향에서 인터넷 중독은 영향을 미치지 않았고, 스마트폰 중독은 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 유아교사의 정보윤리 의식과 정신건강간의 관계에서 미디어 중독의 다중매개효과를 확인한 결과, 유아교 사의 인터넷 중독은 매개효과가 나타나지 않았고, 스마트폰 중독은 부분매개효과를 나타냈다. 본 연구의 결과는 현재 유아교사의 정보윤리의식과 정신건강간의 연구가 활발히 이루어지지 않고 있는데 그와 관련한 이론적 근거로 활용될 수 있다는데 의 의가 있으며, 둘의 관계에서 미디어 중독의 다중매개효과를 검증함으로써 이와 관련한 후속 연구의 이론적 근거를 마련하였다는데 의미가 있다. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of media addiction(Internet addiction, smart phone addiction) on the information ethics awareness and mental health of early childhood teachers who are significantly influential to children by determining correlations among those teachers’ information ethics awareness, mental health and media addiction and investigating the multiple mediation effect of the last variable on relationships between the first two variables. The results of this study were analyzed by 288 early childhood teachers working for 38 kindergartens or nurseries located in Busan metropolitan city and Kyungnam province. As a result, the information ethics awareness of early childhood teachers affected the media addiction, and the information ethical consciousness also affected the mental health. Also, the effects of media addiction on mental health were not influenced by internet addiction, but it was found that smartphone addiction had an influence. As a result of verifying the multi- mediated effects of media addiction in the relationship between the information ethics of early childhood teachers and mental health, the Internet addiction of early childhood teachers showed no mediating effects, and smartphone addiction showed partial mediating effects. The results of this study show that there is no active research on information ethics awareness and mental health among early childhood teachers, it is meaningful that it can be utilized as the theoretical basis related to it. It is meaningful that the multiple mediating effects of media addiction were verified in the relationship between the two, and the theoretical basis of the follow - up study related to this was provided.
