        A vision-based system for long-distance remote monitoring of dynamic displacement: experimental verification on a supertall structure

        Dynamic displacement response of civil structures is an important index for in-construction and in-service structural condition assessment. However, accurately measuring the displacement of large-scale civil structures such as high-rise buildings still remains as a challenging task. In order to cope with this problem, a vision-based system with the use of industrial digital camera and image processing has been developed for long-distance, remote, and real-time monitoring of dynamic displacement of supertall structures. Instead of acquiring image signals, the proposed system traces only the coordinates of the target points, therefore enabling real-time monitoring and display of displacement responses in a relatively high sampling rate. This study addresses the in-situ experimental verification of the developed vision-based system on the Canton Tower of 600 m high. To facilitate the verification, a GPS system is used to calibrate/verify the structural displacement responses measured by the vision-based system. Meanwhile, an accelerometer deployed in the vicinity of the target point also provides frequency-domain information for comparison. Special attention has been given on understanding the influence of the surrounding light on the monitoring results. For this purpose, the experimental tests are conducted in daytime and nighttime through placing the vision-based system outside the tower (in a brilliant environment) and inside the tower (in a dark environment), respectively. The results indicate that the displacement response time histories monitored by the vision-based system not only match well with those acquired by the GPS receiver, but also have higher fidelity and are less noise-corrupted. In addition, the low-order modal frequencies of the building identified with use of the data obtained from the vision-based system are all in good agreement with those obtained from the accelerometer, the GPS receiver and an elaborate finite element model. Especially, the vision-based system placed at the bottom of the enclosed elevator shaft offers better monitoring data compared with the system placed outside the tower. Based on a wavelet filtering technique, the displacement response time histories obtained by the vision-based system are easily decomposed into two parts: a quasi-static ingredient primarily resulting from temperature variation and a dynamic component mainly caused by fluctuating wind load.

        Real-Time Remote-Health Monitoring Systems: a Review on Patients with Chronic Diseases

        The aging society are causing complicated problems from chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease in aged patients. Recently Covid pandemic swept across global aging societies and put aged people with chronic disease more vulnerable to mobidity. Therefore, from view of preventive and precision medicine, remote monitoring an aged people with chronic disease is an important issue than ever. Smart health care systems as remote monitoring is so called telemetry system which enable doctors or health care providers to manage remotely to consult, diagnose and treat patients with chronic disease and infectious disease as well. The goal of telemetry system is to meet timely medical need in aged patients in distant place through communication technologies. Through technological breakthrough, particularly in real-time health care industry, Telemetry system with realtime mornitoring of heart rhythm and blood glucose level can play an important role in managing healthcare services in aged patients. This report introduces a comprehensive and inclusive review on the usefulness of realtime patiens monitoring with wearable sensors in telemedicine applications. The findings of this report are as follows: (1) The advantage of real-time monitoring and blood glucose level and biofeedback based on visual data (2) The advantage of realtime-monitoring heart rhythm coupled with blood glucose level. (3) There is an additional need to produce a digital imaging from protable diagnostic divices such as X-ray and ultrasound.

        스마트기기를 이용한 태양광 가로등 원격 모니터링 시스템의 설계 및 구현

        The Streetlight is an important part of the urban infrastructure for the urban crime prevention and street safety. Environment friendly solar streetlight system has less energy consumption than the normal streetlight. However, the system requires more attention to maintenance and operation because the solar cell, the charge controller and the battery are further configured. Therefore, there are limitations that apply operating method of general streetlight to the solar streetlight system. In this paper, real-time monitoring system for the solar streetlight is designed and implemented using commonly used smart devices. The proposed system can monitor voltage and current state of the solar cell and the battery by using smart mobile devices in everyday life. Additionally, by using the log search function of solar streetlight, the sign of system disorder can be detected before the end of useful life of battery or the breakdown of solar cell module. 가로등은 도시 범죄 예방과 거리 안전을 위해 도시 기간시설에 중요한 부분을 차지한다. 환경 친화적인 태양광 가로등 시스템은 일반 가로등에 비해 에너지 소비가 적다. 하지만, 태양전지와 충전 컨트롤러, 배터리가 추가로 구성되기 때문에 운영·유지를 위해서는 더 많은 관심이 필요하다. 따라서 일반 가로등의 운용방식을 태양광 가로등 시스템에 적용하기에는 한계가 있다. 본 논문에서는 보편화 되어있는 스마트기기를 이용하여 태양광 가로등을 실시간으로 감시할 수 있는 시스템을 설계하고 구현하였다. 제안한 시스템은 태양전지나 배터리의 전압·전류 상태를 일상생활에서 이용하는 스마트 기기를 사용하여 감시할 수 있다. 부가적으로 태양광 가로등 이력 검색 기능을 이용하여 배터리와 태양전지 모듈의 수명이 다하거나 고장이 발생하기 전에 이상 징후를 탐지할 수 있다.

      • A Real-Time Vibration Frequency Measurement System of Bridge Pier

        This study developed a real-time remote monitoring system (RTRMS) to receive the vibration frequency of bridge pier. The system included a front station and a middle station. A multi-hop wireless routing is employed to transmit the data from the front to the middle station. The front station includes a receiver equipped to receive the vibration frequency, and a wireless sensor network to transmit the data. The middle station is designed by an embedded system for storing the data. The pressure test shows that the loss rate of received data is less than 0.6%. The consuming power of one day is 3 ampere hours in the front station and 30 ampere hours in the middle station if the 12 voltage battery is used.

        BWTS 원격 모니터링을 위한 트렌드 분석 및 진단

        On lot of ships, Ballast Water Treatment Systems(BWTS) are in use, or the newly built ship should be mandatory installation by 2017. It is IMO(International Maritime Organization) regulations. Because the vessel is in long distance, It is managed this system only in the vessel and it may occur considerable cost of maintenance when a problem arises from BWTS. We describe in this paper how to monitor treated ballast water to make sure the ballast water and BWTS on a ship is in proper condition, but before the port entrance. In addition, analysing and forecasting trend signal to prevent failure. Also we can expect reduce the cost of BWTS maintenance. We can monitor the sensor data value's change which collected through satellite from BWTS. And we can observate the ballasting and de-ballasting state of the vessel easily.
