Mesoscopic temporary devices: a multiple tip experimenton a silicon surface
A.-D. Mu? ller,F. Mu? ller,M. Hietschold,Th. Gessner 한국물리학회 2005 Current Applied Physics Vol.5 No.6
A cantilever device with two gold coated silicon tips has been used to create two point contacts on a silicon surface. The lateraldistance between the tips is 10l m. The tips are independently movable in vertical direction and the contact force is dened. Whilethe contacts are closed, a complete set of electrical characteristics of the system is measured. An Ohmic current and a eld dependentcurrent are found, so the system behaves like a FET. The measured set of curves was t with a MESFET model. A weak couplingbetween the bulk material and the current carried through surface states is found..
Epidemiology, Diagnostics, and Treatment of Narcolepsy in Germany: The DORMIO Study
Sabrina Müller,Alina Brandes,Julia Knierim,Milan Novakovic,Thomas Wilke,Ulf Maywald,Ingo Fietze 대한수면연구학회 2021 Journal of sleep medicine Vol.18 No.2
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence, incidence, and real-world diagnostic and treatment patterns, healthcare resource utilization (HCRU), and associated costs of narcolepsy in Germany. Methods: This study was based on German claims data (2013–2018). Any patient with at least two outpatient specialist diagnoses and/or one inpatient diagnosis of narcolepsy was eligible for inclusion. Three cohorts were specified: 1) narcolepsy-prevalent patients alive on July 1, 2017; 2) narcolepsy-incident patients; and 3) newly treated patients. Descriptive analyses of the outcome measures were conducted. Results: We identified 133 prevalent narcolepsy patients (mean age: 46.2 years, 36.3% female), 71 incident patients, and 41 treatment starters. The prevalence of narcolepsy was 3.1–9.1 per 100,000 persons within the German population; the cumulative incidence between July 1, 2017, and June 30, 2018, was 0.83/100,000 persons. Among the incident patients, 62.0% underwent at least one predefined diagnostic procedure. Modafinil was the most prescribed medication for the treatment starters (46.3%) and prevalent patients (24.1%), but 59.4% of the prevalent patients did not receive any narcolepsy-specific pharmacological treatment. Prevalent patients with narcolepsy consulted physicians significantly more often than a healthy matched control group and experienced more all-cause hospitalizations. The mean total direct healthcare costs were higher for narcolepsy patients by €2,429 per patient-year. Conclusions: Not all narcolepsy patients undergo appropriate diagnostic procedures or narcolepsy-specific medications, as indicated by the treatment guidelines. More emphasis on the optimization of the management of this disease is needed, given its high prevalence and associated economic burden.

Electronic Charting systems (ECS) in yachting and boating are the non-professional counterparts to ECDIS in commercial shipping. In the absence of legal regulations on design and use, a wide variety of products have de-veloped. Their usability is not only safety critical but often even determines whether navigation functions like route building or track recording are used at all. With two empirical studies employing standard usability meth-ods from human factors research, we assessed the usability of a variety of current ECSs on a sailing yacht. In study 1, nine usability experts conducted multimethod analyses while sailing in typical cruising areas on sea. Building on the results, a standardized user test was designed and carried out with 12 prototypical users plus 3 usability experts in inland waters (study 2). Finally, a set of 38 design and usability guidelines were formulated. The guidelines may not only help boat owners and charter companies in selecting a current market product but also aid manufacturers in designing their future products. Contributions: David Jung (study 1) and Martin Müller (study 2) conducted the studies and formulated the guide-lines. Gisela Müller-Plath designed and managed the research project ANeMoS (Analysing Use and Impact of NewMedia on Sailboats) which the present work is part of, commanded the sailing yacht, and wrote the paper.
WHAT DRIVES PERCEPTIONS OF BRAND LUXURY WITH GEN Z? AN EXPLORATORY STUDY OF GERMAN CONSUMERS
Carolin M?ller,Fernando Fastoso,Anja Spilski 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2023 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2023 No.07
Generation Z is reported to have a precocious positive attitude to luxury while, in contrast to previous generations, caring less about status and more about ethics. Therefore, we study the predictors of luxury brand perceptions (the BLI dimensions and brand ethicality) and brand attitude as a consequence of it. We test our model based on survey data on perceptions of three luxury car brands by a sample of 218 Gen Z consumers in Germany. Our findings show that only three of the six proposed antecedents significantly predict luxury brand perceptions. Further, they show that to appeal to Gen Z consumers, luxury brands should focus on conspicuousness, hedonism, quality and ethicality. Overall, our findings call for more research on the evolving nature of luxury perceptions with younger generations.
A mathematical model for the two-learners problem
Mü,ller, Jan Saputra,Vidaurre, Carmen,Schreuder, Martijn,Meinecke, Frank C,von Bü,nau, Paul,Mü,ller, Klaus-Robert IOP 2017 Journal of neural engineering Vol.14 No.3

Objective. We present the first generic theoretical formulation of the co-adaptive learning problem and give a simple example of two interacting linear learning systems, a human and a machine. Approach. After the description of the training protocol of the two learning systems, we define a simple linear model where the two learning agents are coupled by a joint loss function. The simplicity of the model allows us to find learning rules for both human and machine that permit computing theoretical simulations. Main results. As seen in simulations, an astonishingly rich structure is found for this eco-system of learners. While the co-adaptive learners are shown to easily stall or get out of sync for some parameter settings, we can find a broad sweet spot of parameters where the learning system can converge quickly. It is defined by mid-range learning rates on the side of the learning machine, quite independent of the human in the loop. Despite its simplistic assumptions the theoretical study could be confirmed by a real-world experimental study where human and machine co-adapt to perform cursor control under distortion. Also in this practical setting the mid-range learning rates yield the best performance and behavioral ratings. Significance. The results presented in this mathematical study allow the computation of simple theoretical simulations and performance of real experimental paradigms. Additionally, they are nicely in line with previous results in the BCI literature.
