      • RVA Property analysis of rice varieties under different ecological condition of Yunnan Plateau

        Zhen-Hua Zhu,Ki-Young Kim,Bo-Kyeong Kim,Lu-Yuan Dai,Jae-Kwon Ko 한국작물학회 2008 한국작물학회 학술발표대회 논문집 Vol.2008 No.10

Starch RVA profile parameters serve as important indices in the estimation of rice cooking and eating quality. Four cold- tolerant and five cold-sensitive japonica rice varieties grown at 3 different altitudes in Yunnan plateau were used in this experiments. RVA parameters including peak viscosity(PKV), hot viscosity(HTV), final viscosity(FLV), breakdown viscosity(BDV), setback viscosity(SBV) and pasting temperature(PaT) were investigated. SBV and PaT of cold tolerant varieties and PKV, BDV and SBV of cold-sensitive varieties were significantly influenced by environments. The variances of RVA parameters were affected by genotype×environment interactions in cold tolerant and sensitive varieties. The coefficients of variation of RVA parameters except for SBV in cold tolerant varieties were lower than those in cold sensitive varieties. HTV, FLV and SBV of cold tolerant varieties were significantly lower, while PKV, BDV and PaT were significantly higher than those of cold sensitive varieties. With altitude increasing, SBV and PaT of cold sensitive varieties increased significantly, whereas PKV, HTV, FLV and BDV decreased significantly. However, PKV, BDV and PaT of cold tolerant varieties gradually increased while HTV, FLV and SBV increased and then gradually decreased with altitude rising. These results suggested that cooking and eating quality would be improved by improving cold tolerance of rice varieties in breeding program.

      • Efficacy and Safety of Trastuzumab Added to Standard Treatments for HER2-positive Metastatic Breast Cancer Patients

Zhu, Zhen-Li,Zhang, Jun,Chen, Mei-Lan,Li, Ke Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.12

Introduction: Trastuzumab, an HER2-targeting agents, has shown efficacy in metastatic HER2-positive breast cancer patients. Single-agent clinical trials have evaluated therapeutic regimens using trastuzumab for metastatic breast cancer patients. The aim of our study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of trastuzumab in combination with chemotherapy or hormone therapy in HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer patients. Methods: A literature research was conducted in PubMed and to identify appropriate studies from relevant reviews. Randomized controlled trials comparing chemotherapy or hormone therapy regimens in combination with trastuzumab were eligible. Dadta on clinical outcomes, including safety, efficacy, and patient characteristics were collected. Results: Seven articles describing five trials were included in our systematic review and meta-analysis. Partners of trastuzumab included in trials were anthracycline, paclitaxel, docetaxel, anastrozole and letrozole. The addition of trastuzumab to chemotherapy improved the overall survival (HR=0.79, 95%CI 0.65-0.96), while to hormone therapy did not (HR=0.85 95%CI 0.56-1.30). All trastuzumab-containing regimens increased cardiac toxicity (RR=3.37, 95%CI 1.26-9.02) and grade III-IV adverse events. Conclusions: Our study supports the addition of trastuzumab to chemotherapy which is effective and tolerated for metastatic breast cancer with HER2+ patients. Of note, more adverse events will occur followed the use of trastuzumab, especially cardiac toxicity, with two treatment regimens.

Stock Prices and the Exchange Rate in a Structural Model with an Application to the Case of France

Zhu, Zhen 세종대학교 국제경제연구소 1998 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.13 No.1

This paper investigates the relationship between stock prices and the real exchange rate suggested by some structural macroeconomic models such as Gavin [1989]. Adding stock prices to a conventional macroeconomic model allows us to examine the stock price-exchange rate relationship, and empirically investigate the dynamics of the variables in the system more precisely than a bi-variate system. French data are used to study the long run as well as short run relationships. The results suggest the usefulness of incorporating stock markets into such studies. The Role of Spinal Cord Compression in Predicting Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring Events in Patients With Kyphotic Deformity: An Magnetic Resonance Imaging-Based Study

        Zhen Jin,Jie Li,Hui Xu,Zongshan Hu,Yanjie Xu,Ziyang Tang,Yong Qiu,Zhen Liu,Zezhang Zhu 대한척추신경외과학회 2024 Neurospine Vol.21 No.2

Objective: To establish a novel classification system for predicting the risk of intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) events in surgically-treated patients with kyphotic deformity. Methods: Patients with kyphotic deformity who underwent surgical correction of cervicothoracic, thoracic, or thoracolumbar kyphosis in our center from July 2005 to December 2020 were recruited. We proposed a classification system to describe the morphology of the spinal cord on T2-weighted sagittal magnetic resonance imaging: type A, circular/symmetric cord with visible cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) between the cord and vertebral body; type B, circular/oval/symmetric cord with no visible CSF between the cord and vertebral body; type C, spinal cord that is fattened/deformed by the vertebral body, with no visible CSF between the cord and vertebral body. Furthermore, based on type C, the spinal cord compression ratio (CR) < 50% was defined as the subtype C-, while the spinal cord CR ≥ 50% was defined as the subtype C+. IONM event was documented, and a comparative analysis was made to evaluate the prevalence of IONM events among patients with diverse spinal cord types. Results: A total of 294 patients were reviewed, including 73 in type A; 153 in type B; 53 in subtype C- and 15 in subtype C+. Lower extremity transcranial motor-evoked potentials and/or somatosensory evoked potentials were lost intraoperatively in 41 cases (13.9%), among which 4 patients with type C showed no return of spinal cord monitoring data. The 14 subtype C+ patients (93.3%) had IONM events. Univariate logistic regression analysis showed that patients with a type C spinal cord (subtype C-: odds ratio [OR], 10.390; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.215–48.735; p = 0.003; subtype C+, OR, 497.000; 95% CI, 42.126– 5,863.611; p < 0.001) are at significantly higher risk of a positive IONM event during deformity correction compared to those with a type A. In further multiple logistic regression analysis, the spinal cord classification (OR, 5.371; 95% CI, 2.966–9.727; p < 0.001) was confirmed as an independent risk factor for IONM events. Conclusion: We presented a new spinal cord classification system based on the relative position of the spinal cord and vertebrae to predict the risk of IONM events in patients with kyphotic deformity. In patients with type C spinal cord, especially those in C+ cases, it is essential to be aware of potential IONM events, and adopt standard operating procedures to facilitate neurological recovery.

Seismic Response Mechanism of Near Fault Tunnel:Theoretical Analysis and Shaking Table Test

        Duan Zhu,Zhen-de Zhu,Lun Dai,Cong Zhang,Baotian Wang 대한토목학회 2024 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.28 No.7

The presence of faults can significantly impact the propagation and evolution of stress waves, making it crucial to study them for seismic safety designs of underground tunnels. In this paper, the propagation mechanism of stress waves across faults was analyzed using the momentum conservation theory and continuum theory. The propagation model of two-dimensional elastic-plastic stress wave was derived. The shaking table model test of near fault tunnel was carried out. The results indicate a strong correlation between the experimental and theoretical values, as both were well-fitted to the peak point of the acceleration time-history curve. Error analysis was conducted using Pearson's coefficient of contingence, comparing the peak points of the test curve and theoretical curve. The data from both groups showed a significant correlation. According to experimental verification and error analysis, the theoretical model was capable of accurately reflecting the propagation and evolution mechanism of seismic waves in faults. These results can serve as a valuable reference for seismic design of near fault tunnels.
