A Study of the Content Validity of Reading Comprehension Tests in NMET II
Zhen-Jie Liu,Ming-Hao Jin 대한언어학회 2018 언어학 Vol.26 No.4
Liu, Zhen-Jie & Jin, Ming-Hao. (2018). A study of the content validity of reading comprehension tests in NMET II. The Linguistic Association of Korea Journal, 26(4), 103-124. Based on Bachman and Palmer’s (1996) framework of task characteristics, this paper aims to compare the reading comprehension tests of the 2013-2017 National Matriculation English Test II (NMET II) with the requirements of the New Curriculum Standards and Testing Syllabus, in particular, concerning the content validity of the tests in terms of the characteristics of input and expected responses. The implications of this study are discussed for test designers, teachers, and students. The results show that reading comprehension tests from 2013 to 2017 basically meet the requirements of the New Curriculum Standard and Testing Syllabus and have a high content validity. In terms of the characteristics of input, the length, reading speed, and readability of comprehension passages are appropriate for students; however, the distribution of topics and genres in each year is uneven. In terms of the characteristics of expected responses, the wordings of questions and the design of question items are reasonable. However, the response type is mainly restricted to selected response questions (multiple-choice), and the measure of reading skills coverage is unbalanced.

Background: Diabetic wounds are a major clinical challenge, because minor skin wounds can lead to chronic, unhealed ulcers and ultimately result in infection, gangrene, or even amputation. Studies on bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and a series of growth factors have revealed their many benefits for wound healing and regeneration. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) may improve the environment for BMSC development and differentiation. However, whether combined use of BMSCs and PRP may be more effective for accelerating diabetic ulcer healing remains unclear. Objective: We investigated the efficacy of BMSCs and PRP for the repair of refractory wound healing in a diabetic rat model. Methods: Forty-eight rats with diabetes mellitus induced by streptozotocin were divided into four groups: treatment with BMSCs plus PRP, BMSCs alone, PRP alone, phosphate buffered saline. The rate of wound closure was quantified. A histopathological study was conducted regarding wound depth and the skin edge at 7, 14, and 28 days after surgery. Results: Wound healing rates were significantly higher in the BMSC plus PRP group than in the other groups. The immunohistochemistry results showed that the expression of platelet/endothelial cell adhesion molecule 1, proliferating cell nuclear antigen, and transforming growth factor-β1 increased significantly in the BMSC plus PRP group compared to the other treatment groups. On day 7, CD68 expression increased significantly in the wounds of the BMSC plus PRP group, but decreased markedly at day 14 compared to the controls. Conclusion: The combination of BMSCs and PRP aids diabetic wound repair and regeneration. (Ann Dermatol 26(1) 1∼10, 2014)
Numerical Analysis of Wave Field in OWC Chamber Using VOF Model
ZHEN LIU,BEOM-SOO HYUN,JI-YUAN JIN 한국해양공학회 2008 韓國海洋工學會誌 Vol.22 No.2
Recently Oscillating Water Column (OWC) plants have been widely employed in wave energy conversion applications. It is necessary to investigate the chamber and optimize its shape parameters for maximizing air flow and energy conversion due to wave conditions. A 2D numerical wave tank based on a Fluent and VOF model is developed to generate the incident waves and is validated by theoretical solutions. The oscillating water column motion in the chamber predicted by the numerical method is compared with the available experimental data. Several geometric scales of the chamber are calculated to investigate the effect of the shape parameters on the oscillating water column motion and wave energy conversion.
Artificial Neural Network Based Method for Seismic Fragility Analysis of Steel Frames
Zhen Liu,Zhe Zhang 대한토목학회 2018 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.22 No.2
Steel frames are widely used in earthquake areas but the fragility analysis of the steel frames is a time consuming process. The fragility curves are generally obtained based on a large number of time history analyses. In order to better simulate steel frames, the material and geometric uncertainties are considered. The moderate earthquake records are selected as the earthquake samples. Then the seismic damages induced by these samples are obtained using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) program. An Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is trained by these seismic damage data. Then the trained ANN is used to predict the seismic damage of the steel frame. When the training data is enough, the method has high prediction precision. The fragility curves based on the ANN prediction are the same as that based on the FEA program.

Controlled synthesis of transition metal/conducting polymer nanocomposites
Liu, Zhen,Liu, Yang,Zhang, Lin,Poyraz, Selcuk,Lu, Ning,Kim, Moon,Smith, James,Wang, Xiaolong,Yu, Yajiao,Zhang, Xinyu IOP Pub 2012 Nanotechnology Vol.23 No.33
<P>A novel displacement reaction has been observed to occur between conducting polymers (CP) and metal salts which can be used to fabricate nanostructured CP–metal composites in a one-pot manner. Vanadium pentoxide (V 2O5) nanofiber is used during the synthesis as the reactive seeds to induce the nanofibril CP–metal network formation. The CP–metal nanocomposites exhibit excellent sensory properties for hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) detection, where both high sensitivity and a low detection limit can be obtained. The sensory performance of the CP–metal composite can be further enhanced by a facile microwave treatment. It is believed that the CP–metal nanofibril network can be converted to a carbon–metal network by a microwave-induced carbonization process and result in the sensory enhancement. </P>
The Application of FBNWT in Wave Overtopping Analysis
ZHEN LIU,BEOM-SOO HYUN,JI-YUAN JIN 한국해양공학회 2008 韓國海洋工學會誌 Vol.22 No.1
A 2-D Fluent-based wave tank wave tank (FBNWT) capable of simulating wave propagating and overtopping is presented. The FBNWT model is based on the Reynolds averaged Naiver - Stokes equations and VOF free surface tracking method. The piston wave maker system is realized by dynamic mesh technology (DMT) and user defined function (UDF). The non-iteration time advancement (NITA) PISO algorithm is employed for the velocity and pressure coupling. The FBNWT numerical solutions of linear wave propagation have been validated by analytical solutions. Several overtopping problems are simulated and the prediction results shaw good agreements with the experimental data, which demonstrates that the present male! can be utilized in the corresponding analysis.

This paper focuses on the impact of the wave passage effect on the long-span bridge. In order to make the wave passage effect more obvious, ground motion samples are selected from the near-fault ground motion of the 1999 Chi-Chi earthquake and an arch bridge with a 280m main span is selected as a bridge sample. The motion ground samples are divided into two groups according to the characteristics of near-fault. A sequence of fragility curves is developed. It is shown that the seismic damage is increased by the wave passage effect and the increase is more obvious in the near-fault ground motion.
