Experimental investigation of multi-layered laminated glass beams under in-plane bending

        Qiang Liu,Xiaokun Huang,Gang Liu,Zhen Zhou,Gang Li 국제구조공학회 2016 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.60 No.5

Due to its relatively good safety performance and aesthetic benefits, laminated glass (LG) is increasingly being used as load-carrying members in modern buildings. This paper presents an experimental study into one applicational scenario of structural LG subjected to in-plane bending. The aim of the study is to reveal the in-plane behaviors of the LG beams made up of multi-layered glass sheets. The LG specimens respectively consisted of two, three and four plies of glass, bonded together by two prominent adhesives. A total of 26 tests were carried out. From these tests, the structural behaviors in terms of flexural stiffness, load resistance and post-breakage strength were studied in detail, whilst considering the influence of interlayer type, cross-sectional interlayer percentage and presence of shear forces. Based on the test results, analytical suggestions were made, failure modes were identified, corresponding failure mechanisms were discussed, and a rational engineering model was proposed to predict the post-breakage strength of the LG beams. The results obtained are expected to provide useful information for academic and engineering professionals in the analysis and design of LG beams bending in-plane.

Case Report : Pancreatic Panniculitis Associated with Acinar Cell Carcinoma of the Pancreas: A Case Report

( Zhen Jiang Zheng ),( Jun Gong ),( Guang Ming Xiang ),( Gang Mai ),( Xu Bao Liu ) 대한피부과학회 2011 Annals of Dermatology Vol.23 No.2

Pancreatic panniculitis is a rare type of disorder associated with pancreatic diseases. We describe here a case of 54-year-old man who was admitted to the Department of Dermatology with the diagnosis of erythema nodosum. The patient presented with a 9-month history of painful erythematous nodules on the extremities, joint pain and swelling, and weight loss. A highly elevated level of pancreatic lipase was found on the laboratory examinations. The biopsy specimens from the skin lesions showed subcutaneous fat necrosis. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) revealed a large mass with central necrosis in the body and tail of the pancreas. Distal pancreatectomy, splenectomy and partial transverse colectomy were successfully performed on day 17 of the hospitalization. The histopathologic findings supported the diagnosis of acinar cell carcinoma of the pancreas (ACCP). Postoperatively, the level of serum lipase returned to normal, and the skin lesions and joint manifestations gradually regressed. However, the swelling did not significantly resolve in the left knee. In view of the non-specific clinical presentation of this disease, clinicians should be alert and have a high index of suspicion for pancreatic panniculitis. (Ann Dermatol 23(2) 225∼228, 2011)

Case Report : Coexistence of Pancreatic Carcinoma and Pancreatic Tuberculosis: Case Report

( Zhen Jiang Zheng ),( Hao Zhang ),( Guang Ming Xiang ),( Jun Gong ),( Gang Mai ),( Xu Bao Liu ) 대한간학회 2011 Gut and Liver Vol.5 No.4

Pancreatic tuberculosis (TB) is extremely rare and mimics pancreatic carcinoma both clinically and radiologically. This paper discusses the occurrence of 2 heterogeneous masses located in the head and tail of the pancreas in an adult male. In this patient, laparotomy was performed because of the high suspicion of pancreatic carcinoma. Intraoperative fine needle aspiration biopsy revealed the coexistence of pancreatic carcinoma with pancreatic TB, and a combined resection of the distal pancreas and spleen was successfully performed. Following surgery, the patient received standard chemotherapy for TB. At 7-month follow-up, computed tomography showed resolution of the mass in the pancreatic head. Clinicians must maintain a high index of suspicion for pancreatic TB in patients with pancreatic masses. The coexistence of malignancy and TB should be considered when patients present with multiple pancreatic masses. (Gut Liver 2011;5:536-538)

Colorimetric Probe Coupled to Dispersive Liquid–Liquid Microextraction for Determination of Dopamine in Serum

        Zhi-gang Tai,Yi-ren Zhu,Yi-bo Yuan,Jin Liu,Zhen-jie Li,Zhi-hua Liu,Kun-miao Wang 대한화학회 2020 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.41 No.3

In this work, a highly sensitive method using a colorimetric probe coupled to dispersive liquid?liquid microextraction (DLLME) was developed for the quantitative determination of dopamine (DA) in serum. The DA in serum was concentrated by DLLME to increase the detection sensitivity and reduce the matrix effects. After the DLLME process, a colorimetric probe of silver triangular nanoparticles (AgTNPs) was used to detect DA, which was based on the plasma transformation of AgTNPs caused by strong interactions with melamine (MA). The results showed that DA could inhibit the aggregation of AgTNPs induced by MA, resulting in the recovery of the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) peak of AgTNPs. Thus, the DLLME method followed by colorimetric probe detection of DA can be achieved. The parameters affecting the proposed method were optimized, under the optimal conditions, a linear calibration curve was obtained over a concentration range of 5 to 250?nM with a recovery from 94.4 to 101.3%. The detection limit was 1.6 nM (at an S/N ratio of 3). The present method was successfully applied to determine DA in human serum.

      • Prognostic Significance of GSTP1, XRCC1 and XRCC3 Polymorphisms in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Patients

        Ke, Hong-Gang,Li, Jun,Shen, Yi,You, Qing-Sheng,Yan, Yu,Dong, Han-Xuan,Liu, Jun-Hua,Shen, Zhen-Ya Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.9

Aim: Individual differences in chemosensitivity and clinical outcome in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients treatment with platinum-based chemotherapy may be due to genetic factors. Our study aimed to investigate the prognostic role of GSTP1, XRCC1 and XRCC3 in NSCLC patients treated with chemotherapy. Methods: A total of 460 cases were consecutively selected from The Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University between Jan. 2003 to Nov. 2006, and all were followed-up until Nov. 2011. Genotyping of GSTP1 Ile105Val, XRCC1 Arg194Trp, XRCC1 Arg399Gln and XRCC3 Thr241Met was conducted by duplex polymerase-chain-reaction with confronting-two-pair primer methods. Results: Patients with GSTP Val/Val exhibited a shorter survival time, and had a 1.89 fold greater risk of death than did those with the IIe/IIe genotype. For XRCC1 Arg194Trp, the variant genotype Trp/Trp was significantly associated with a decreased risk of death from NSCLC when compared with the Arg/Arg. Individuals carrying XRCC1 399Gln/Gln genotype had a longer survival time, with a lowered risk of death from NSCLC. Conclusion: This study indicated that GSTP1 Ile105Val, XRCC1 Arg194Trp and XRCC1Arg399Gln genes have a role in modifying the effect of platinum-based chemotherapy for NSCLC patients in a Chinese population. Our findings provide information for therapeutic decisions for individualized therapy in NSCLC cases.

Rhein lysinate inhibits monocyte adhesion to human umbilical vein endothelial cells by blocking p38 signaling pathway

        Yajun Lin,Yongzhan Zhen,Jiang Liu,Jie Wei,Ping Tu,Gang Hu 대한약학회 2013 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.36 No.11

The objective of this study was to investigate theeffect of rhein lysinate (RHL) on monocyte adhesion and itsmechanism. 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazoliumbromide (MTT) assay was used to determine thegrowth inhibition by drugs. The monocyte chemoattractantprotein (MCP)-1 levels were assayed using MCP-1 ELISA. The expression of proteins was detected by Western blottinganalysis. The results indicated that RHL inhibited monocyteadhesion in a dose- and time-dependent manner. RHL(\20 lmol/L) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) had no effecton viability of human umbilical vein endothelial cells. Therefore, 20 lmol/L RHL was selected for this study. RHLinhibited secretion ofMCP-1 induced by LPS and expressionof intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM)-1 and vascularcell adhesion molecule (VCAM)-1. In the meantime, bothRHL and p38 inhibitor (SB203580) inhibited phosphorylationof p38 and mitogen-activated protein kinase-activatedprotein kinase-2 (MAPKAPK-2) and transcription andexpression of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1. In conclusion, RHLinhibits the transcription and expression of ICAM-1 andVCAM-1 by the p38/MAPKAPK-2 signaling pathway, andthe effect ofRHLon transcription and expression of ICAM-1and VCAM-1 is similar to p38 inhibitor. RHL could be aprophylactic drug for atherosclerosis.

Design and Optimization of a Control Framework for Robot Assisted Additive Manufacturing Based on the Stewart Platform

        Tariku Sinshaw Tamir,Qihang Fang,Ehtisham Lodhi,Gang Xiong,Zhen Shen,Xisong Dong,Sheng Liu,Fei-Yue Wang 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2022 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.20 No.3

Additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, is an emerging technology. The existing additive manufacturing technologies deploy a 3-axis printing mechanism where the material accumulation grows only in the z-direction. This results in limited printing freedom. Apart from this, support structures are needed to print overhang structures. Removal of these supports ultimately reduces print quality. This paper proposes a novel robotassisted additive manufacturing along with a control system framework, which possesses multi-directional printing without support structures. Taking the advantage of its high stiffness and high payload-to-weight ratio, a 6-degree of freedom Stewart platform manipulator is designed to substitute the printer build plate. The kinematics and dynamics of the manipulator is formulated. Then, an extended proportion-derivation sliding mode controller is designed for trajectory tracking. The modified grey wolf optimization algorithm is applied to compute the optimal controller parameters. The integral absolute error (IAE) is used as a cost function and its minimum value is reached in the iteration interval [75,100]. The analytical model simulation in MATLAB is run for 10 seconds, and the results show that the desired length trajectories of the six legs of the manipulator are achieved after 3.5 seconds. The performance of the analytical model is verified on the automated dynamic analysis of mechanical systems (ADAMS).

      • Preliminary Evaluation of the in vitro Efficacy of 1, 2-di (Quinazolin-4-yl) Diselane against SiHa Cervical Cancer Cells

        Huang, Yin-Jiu,Zhang, Yu-Yuan,Liu, Gang,Tang, Jie,Hu, Jian-Guo,Feng, Zhen-Zhong,Liu, Fang,Wang, Qi-Yi,Li, Dan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.15

Cervical cancer is one the most common malignancies among females. In recent years, its incidence rate has shown a rising trend in some countries so that development of anticancer drugs for cervical cancer is an urgent priority. In our recent anticancer drug discovery screen, 1, 2-di (quinazolin-4-yl)diselane (LG003) was found to possess wide spectrum anticancer efficacy. In the present work, the in vitro anticancer activity of LG003 was evaluated in the SiHa cervical cancer cell line. Compared with commercial anticancer drugs 10-hydroxycamptothecin, epirubicin hydrochloride, taxol and oxaliplatin, LG003 showed better anticancer activity. Furthermore, inhibition effects were time- and dose-dependent. Morphological observation exhibited LG003 treatment results in apoptosis like shrinking and blebbing, and cell membrane damage. Lactate dehydrogenase release assay revealed that LG003 exerts such effects in SiHa cells through a physiology pathway rather than cytotoxicity, which suggests that title compound LG003 can be a potential candidate agent for cervical cancer.
