        Urban Determinants of Japanese Convenience Store Investment in Mainland China

        In recent years, research on convenience stores has gradually increased because the growth of the large-scale retail industry has slowed down, and many industry giants have refocused their attention on the neighborhood market. In the past ten years, the rapid expansion of chain convenience store brands in mainland China has shown huge regional differences in economic phenomena. Specifically, there are great differences in the number of chain convenience store stores in different cities. At the same time, we noticed that the survival rate of stores of local Chinese brands and convenience stores of Japanese brands is very different. Because previous research theories on the location determinants of FDI have focused too much on the national and regional levels, they have had to be limited in explaining why one city has more FDI than another. On the other hand, research on the determinants of retail location has focused too much on the streets within a city or within a city. There are some limitations in explaining the economic phenomena we mentioned earlier. Therefore, this study compiles the literature on the locational determinants of FDI and models retail store location, and identifies research gaps in these two areas. This paper attempts to analyze the location strategies of Japanese brand convenience stores for the convenience store industry investors' reference and, at the same time, tries to promote the fusion of the theory of location determinants of FDI theory and the modeling theory of retail location. Through the multiple regression analysis of the data of convenience stores in 162 cities with a population of more than one million in China, this study shows that with the development of the times, only by subdividing the geographical population can we better grasp the science of location selection. For example, the location of Japanese brand convenience stores should try to avoid the group of college students with the highest national sentiment. Theoretically, this study is helpful to promote FDI research at the city level and attract more scholars to pay attention to the city level. This study provides a macro perspective for convenience store location research and helps to establish a more scientific convenience store location model. In practice, the results of this study have certain reference significance for investors who want to join and invest in the convenience store industry and for traversing branding in China's local industry.

        Are Longer and More Negative Online Reviews More Helpful? - The Mediating Role of Consumers' Perceived Usefulness of Reviews

        Purpose - This study investigates how review length and sentiment impact consumers' purchase intentions, using real online reviews as the data source. The study aims to understand how the length and tone of a review affect a potential buyer's decision-making process when considering a purchase. Design/methodology/approach - A 2 (comment length: long vs. short) × 2 (comment sentiment: positive vs. negative) × 2 (product type: practical vs. hedonic) experiment was conducted. Findings - Results indicate that longer reviews have a greater impact on consumers' perceived usefulness compared to short reviews, but do not affect purchase intentions. Review sentiment is found to have a stronger impact than review length, especially for negative sentiment. The study also suggests that consumers pay more attention to reviews of practical products, and that reviews have less influence on hedonic products. Research implications or Originality - The implications of these findings are relevant for both merchants managing reviews and consumers reviewing products.The results of this research could help businesses and marketers optimize their online review strategies to maximize their impact on consumer behavior.

        What are the Key Location Factors for McDonald's, KFC and Starbucks stores in China?

        Since Chinese retail industry foreign investment mainly distributed in urban areas, there were significant differences in number of shops in different cities. Previous researches on FDI mainly focused on national and regional level, which could not explain this phenomenon. So, it is imperative to conduct researches to determine which factors attracted more foreign investment in retail industry. Based on distributed data of Starbucks, KFC and McDonald shops in 296 cities in China mainland, this paper explores their location determining factors. Apart from traditional market size and economic agglomeration effect, the number of university students in each city is also a key driving factor. Although the number of university students is a negative variable in distribution of Starbucks shops, it is a positive variable in distribution of KFC shops. In addition, results of this research show that location of Starbucks and KFC are not affected by the open policy system, which is different from location of McDonald's. The implication for this paper is explained from two perspectives. Firstly, theoretically, this paper promotes the discussion on FDI location determinants from city level, and provides significant reference for establishing location model of foreign investment in China on macro-level. Secondly, from practical point of view, this paper offers some suggestions on attracting foreign investment for city managers, and provides a few advices on location for other retail brands and potential investors on the three brands.

        Simplified Analytical Model for Investigating the Output Power of Solar Array on Stratospheric Airship

        Solar energy is the ideal power choice for long-endurance stratospheric airships. The output performance of solar array on stratospheric airship is affected by several major factors: flying latitude, flight date, airship's attitude and the temperature of solar cell, but the research on the effect of these factors on output performance is rare. This paper establishes a new simplified analytical model with thermal effects to analyze the output performance of the solar array. This model consisting of the geometric model of stratospheric airship, solar radiation model and incident solar radiation model is developed using MATLAB computer program. Based on this model, the effects of the major factors on the output performance of the solar array are investigated expediently and easily. In the course of the research, the output power of solar array is calculated for five airship's latitudes of $0^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$, four special dates and different attitudes of five pitch angles and four yaw angles. The effect of these factors on output performance is discussed in detail. The results are helpful for solving the energy problem of the long endurance airship and planning the airline.

        High expression of ring finger protein 115 contributes to the progression of colorectal cancer via WNT/β-catenin pathway

        Background Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignancies worldwide, with the second highest incidence among men and the third incidence among women. Objective To uncover the expression of RNF115 in human colorectal cancer (CRC) tissues and cell lines, investigate its effects on CRC progression, and further explore the mechanisms. Results TCGA database showed the high transcript per million (TPM) in human CRC tissues and its relationship with poor prognosis. RNF115 was highly expressed in CRC tissues and cell lines. RNF115 contributed to the growth of CRC cells via mediating cell cycle and colony formation. RNF115 knockdown also stimulated the apoptosis of CRC cells by increasing Bax and cleaved caspase-3 expression levels. Mechanistically, RNF115 affected the proliferation and apoptosis via targeting WNT/β-catenin pathway in CRC cells. Conclusion RNF115 was highly expressed in human CRC tissues and cell lines and correlated with poor prognosis. RNF115 contributed to the growth of CRC cells via mediating cell cycle and colony formation, and also induced the apoptosis of CRC cells via targeting WNT/β-catenin pathway. RNF115 could serve as a target for CRC treatment.

        PURPOSE : To build a cloud intelligent analysis platform for physical measurement data and physical examination data for college students, so as to enhance the physical health of college students and realize the deep integration of sports, education and medical treatment. METHODS : On this basis, a cloud-based intelligent early warning and screening analysis module for the physical fitness test level and the prevalence rate in college students can be established. Then, a cloud-based intelligent construction module for non-medical health intervention means and scientific physical education (PE) curriculum should be built, aiming to strengthen the corresponding physical fitness test indexes and improve weak health examination indexes, and further mitigate and prevent relevant diseases. RESULTS : Through the Internet of things technology, we can realize the co-platform link of physical examination instruments and physical examination instruments, process and analyze data in the same system, and realize the source combination of sports and medical treatment. CONCLUSIONS : The establishment of cloud intelligent college student physical examination and physical examination platform is the need of The Times, and is also one of the effective measures to realize Outline of the Healthy China 2030 Plan (the Outline).

        Eastern religious culture and corporate ESG rating in China

        The study, using A-share listed companies as samples, examines the influence of major Chinese religions (Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism) on corporate ESG ratings. The research reveals a significant positive correlation between Confucian and Taoist philosophies and corporate ESG, suggesting that religious culture might serve as an alternative mechanism to encourage ESG participation in emerging markets. Additionally, the impact of Buddhism and Taoism on ESG ratings is slightly stronger than that of Confucianism, providing an opportunity for further exploration of cultural influences. The study broadens the scope of corporate social responsibility and offers new insights for global companies practicing ESG. Through comparative analysis of the impact of different religions on corporate ESG, it provides empirical evidence for cross-cultural research and practical guidance for businesses and policymakers. Recognizing the positive influence of religious culture on ESG can aid policymakers in formulating policies for sustainable social progress. Despite limitations, this study offers a novel perspective on how traditional Chinese culture influences corporate ESG ratings, providing valuable insights for businesses and policymakers.

        Self-Tuning Position Control for the Linear Long-Stroke, Compound Switched Reluctance Conveyance Machine

        This paper proposes a long-stroke linear switched reluctance machine (LSRM) with a primary and a secondary translator for industrial conveyance applications. The secondary one can translate according to the primary one so that linear compound motions can be achieved. Considering the fact that either one translator imposes a time-variant, nonlinear disturbance onto the other, the selftuning position controllers are implemented for the proposed linear compound machine and experimental results demonstrate that the absolute steady-state error values can fall into 0.03 mm and 0.05 mm for the secondary and primary translator, respectively. A composite absolute precision of less than 0.6 mm can be achieved under the proposed control strategy.

        A self-powered β-Ga2O3/CsCu2I3 heterojunction photodiode responding to deep ultraviolet irradiation

        In this paper, a lead-free halide perovskite CsCu2I3 film with high stability was prepared by the anti-solvent assisted crystallization method. Then, we coupled it with Ga2O3 to prepare a corresponding heterojunction deep ultraviolet (UV) photodetector. After testing, we concluded that the photodetector is sensitive to 254 nm UV light. The photodetector has good reproducibility, and has an ultra-high photo-to-dark current ratio (PDCR) of more than 105. In addition, under a bias of 10 V and an illuminated intensity of 200 μW/cm2, the responsivity (R) and specific detectivity (D*) reached 20 mA/W and 107 cm Hz1/2 W 1 (Jones), and the external quantum efficiency (EQE) is 10%. Meanwhile, the prepared photodetector could operate at zero bias, i.e., self-powered operation, along with a photocurrent of about 1 nA under illumination with UV light intensity of 200 μW/cm2.
