Objective: Although radiation therapy (RT) and concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT)are the global standards for adjuvant therapy treatment in cervical cancer, many Japaneseinstitutions choose chemotherapy (CT) because of the low frequency of irreversible adverseevents. In this study, we aimed to clarify the trends of adjuvant therapy for intermediate/highriskcervical cancer after radical surgery in Japan. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted by the Japanese Gynecologic OncologyGroup to 186 authorized institutions active in the treatment of gynecologic cancer. Results: Responses were obtained from 129 facilities. Adjuvant RT/CCRT and intensitymodulatedRT were performed in 98 (76%) and 23 (18%) institutions, respectively. On theother hand, CT was chosen as an alternative in 93 institutions (72%). The most commonregimen of CT, which was used in 66 institutions (51%), was a combination of cisplatin/carboplatin with paclitaxel. CT was considered an appropriate alternative option to RT/CCRTin patients with risk factors such as bulky tumors, lymph node metastasis, lymphovascularinvasion, parametrial invasion, and stromal invasion. The risk of severe adverse events wasconsidered to be lower for CT than for RT/CCRT in 109 institutions (84%). Conclusion: This survey revealed a variety of policies regarding adjuvant therapy amonginstitutions. A clinical study to assess the efficacy or non-inferiority of adjuvant CT iswarranted.

Hydrangea luteovenosa is a critically endangered plant species of Jeju Island in Korea, though it is widely distributed in western Japan. We isolated and characterized five microsatellite loci in this species. The number of alleles ranged from 3 to 27, observed heterozygosity from 0.27 to 0.86, and expected heterozygosity from 0.34 to 0.91. The markers described here will be useful for investigating the genetic diversity, genetic structure, and gene flow of H. luteovenosa, and the genetic findings would contribute to the establishment of effective conservation measures for this species in Korea.

The population status of Hydrangea luteovenosa Koidz. in Korea was investigated, with an emphasis on its genetic diversity. From field surveys, we obtained the only locality record for a wild population in Jeju Island, which contained 285 individuals in total. Genotyping was performed using five microsatellite markers for the all extant plants in Korea. Three Japanese populations were also genotyped for the comparative analyses. The genotyping result showed that the Jeju population consisted of only two multilocus genotypes, including identical heterozygous genotypes at two loci; it had been maintained mostly by vegetative reproduction; and although the Jeju population is geographically far from Japanese populations, all alleles observed in the Korean population were shared with Japanese populations, suggesting the possibility that H. luteovenosa in the Jeju Island had been recently migrated or introduced from Japan. Future ecological and genetic studies associated with negative effects of low genetic variation will be essential for determining the conservation direction of the threatened Korean population of this species.

Objective: The aim of this study was to establish criteria that would indicate whether fertility preservation therapy would likely be safe for patients aged 40 years or less with endometrioid endometrial cancer based on their DNA methylation profile. Methods: Forty-nine fresh-frozen tissue samples from patients with endometrial cancer from an initial cohort and 31 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue samples from a second cohort were subjected to genome-wide DNA methylation analysis using the Infinium MethylationEPIC BeadChip. Results: Epigenomic clustering of early-onset endometrial cancer was correlated with the widely used recurrence risk classification. Genes showing differences in DNA methylation levels between the low-recurrence-risk category and intermediate- and high-risk categories were accumulated in pathways related to fibroblast growth factor and nuclear factor-κB signaling. DNA hypomethylation and overexpression of were frequently observed in the low-risk category. Eight hundred thirty-one marker CpG probes showed area under the curve values of >0.7 on the receiver operating characteristic curve for discrimination of patients belonging to the low-risk category. By combining marker CpG sites, seven panels for placing patients into the low-risk category with 91.3% or more sensitivity and specificity in both the initial and second cohorts were established. Conclusions: DNA methylation diagnostics criteria using up to 6 of 8 CpG sites for ,and may be applicable to recurrence risk,,,,estimation for patients aged 40 years or less with endometrial cancer, regardless of tumor cell content, even if formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded biopsy or curettage materials are used.
