Background: The effectiveness of surveillance to identify extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (ESBLE) carriers is controversial during a non-outbreak situation. We performed additional stool cultures for ESBL-E among intensive care unit (ICU) patients already under active surveillance by means of sputum and urine cultures. We aimed to assess the efficacy of stool cultures for screening for ESBL-E in a non-outbreak situation. Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study in an ICU. Sputum and urine samples were cultured for ESBL-E surveillance purposes from January to September 2013 (phase 1). Stool cultures were routinely performed in addition from January to September 2014 (phase 2). Antimicrobial use density values and clinical outcomes were investigated and compared between phase 1 and 2. Results: We identified 512 and 478 patients in phase 1 and phase 2, respectively. ESBL-E were found in the feces of 65 (13.6%) patients in phase 2. The antimicrobial use density values (expressed as defined daily doses per 1,000 bed-days) were not significantly different between the two phases for fluoroquinolones (7 vs. 10, p = 0.376), third-generation cephalosporins (24.2 vs. 29.5, p = 0.724), tazobactam/ piperacillin (44.6 vs. 57.3, p = 0.489), and carbapenems (73 vs. 55.5, p = 0.222). Moreover, there were no significant differences in ICU mortality and length of stay (11.5% vs. 9.8%, p = 0.412, and 9 vs. 10 days, p = 0.28, respectively). Conclusions: Stool culture seemed ineffective in improving the antimicrobial use density of broad-spectrum antimicrobials, clinical outcomes, and ICU length of stay, and is not recommended for surveillance of ESBL-E in a non-outbreak situation.
Development of Flexible Robot Gripper Holding Deformation by Electromagnetic Brake
Tomohiro Kuwano,Takeshi Nishida 제어로봇시스템학회 2019 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2019 No.10
We developed a flexible robot gripper which holds the deformation of a flexible bag enclosing an object by a magnetic brake. Since the gripper has no fluid in the flexible bag, it is not susceptible to gravity during the gripping operation, and can grip the object in various postures. Also, there is no concern of liquid leakage, and most of the component parts can be easily manufactured by 3D printing. Furthermore, it can be operated by supplying power to the electromagnet brake without complex control.
Characteristic evaluations of microwave absorbers using dielectric and magnetic composite materials

A microwave absorber for use in an electronic toll collection(ETC) device, having a central frequency of 5.8 GHz, is fabricated using a composite of magnetic (iron, Fe (coated by Fe3O4), made from Carbonyl Iron, Fe(CO)5) and dielectric (titanium oxide, TiO2) material. The reflection loss in free space, using a circularly polarized wave, was −20 dB or more around a central frequency of 5.8 GHz at incident angles of up to 60o, which satisfies the necessary conditions for ETC use in JAPAN. In this study, we explain the characteristic evaluations of microwave absorbers by changing the weight ratio of Fe/TiO2 composite materials (Fe/TiO2 = 100/0-0/100) and incidence characteristics of the transverse electric wave (TE wave), the transverse magnetic wave (TM wave) and the circularly polarized wave (CP wave) in a free-space without a characteristic deterioration. In addition, we show the experimental results by changing the arrangement of microwave absorber that also satisfied a necessary condition for ETC use. We experimented the configuration of a 5th generation mobile communication system (5G) for factory automation (FA) systems consisting of industrial robots and three-dimensional measurement sensors. We examined the configuration of system components, on the basis of which we developed an experimental FA system. In addition, we confirmed that the need for communication lines is eliminated as 5G greatly reduces the production preparation time when rearranging the parts of the developed FA system.
