      • Jasmonic acid improves ginsenoside accumulation in adventitious root culture of Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer

        Jasmonic acid significantly increased ginsenoside content in ginseng adventitious roots in flask and bioreactor cultures. In flask culture, ginsenoside content increased by the addition of jasmonic acid, resulting in the highest ginsenoside content at 10 mgl-1 jasmonic acid. However, the root growth was strongly inhibited by increasing jasmonic acid concentration. Fresh weight, dry weight, and growth rate of the roots decreased as jasmonic acid concentration increased. The highest ginsenoside yield was obtained at 2.0mgl-1 jasmonic acid. In a two-stage culture ina balloon type airlift bioreactor, the content of total ginsenoside and protopanaxadiol ginsenosides increased by over 5 times after 7 days of jasmonic acid treatment but the contents of Rg group ginsenosides increased insignificantly.

        Three-dimensional morphological evaluation of the hard palate in Korean adults with mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnea

        Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate differences in threedimensional (3D) morphology of the hard palate between Korean adults with and without mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) using conebeam computed tomographic (CBCT) data. Methods: The protocol for the twodimensional (2D) and 3D mathematical modeling was established by analyzing CBCT images of 30 adults with OSA and 30 matched controls without OSA, using MIMICS software. The linear and angular measurements were also determined using this software. The measurements were repeated for 30 palates, by the same operator, to assess reliability. Results: The palates of OSA patients were higher in the posterior part and narrower in the anterior-superior part than those of the control group (p < 0.05). The nasal cavities of patients with OSA were narrower (p < 0.05) than those of controls. The increasing angle of the first molar palatal root is a compensation of the upper dental arch to improve occlusion. However, for most palatal measurements, there were no significant differences between the OSA and control groups (p > 0.05). The results of 2D and 3D mathematical models were consistent for linear and angular measurements, indicating that 2D and 3D mathematical modeling of the palate is a reliable methodology. Conclusions: OSA is a multifactorial disease; the palates of adults with mild-to-moderate OSA do not have specific morphological features distinct from those of healthy controls.

        지역통상정보 : 우리나라 의료기기산업의 대중국 경쟁력 연구

        본 연구에서는 중국시장에서 우리나라의 국제경쟁력을 보유한 수출특화품목을 도출하기 위하여 RCA지수, MCA지수, TSI지수를 통해 우리나라와 중국 의료기기산업의 국제경쟁력을 분석하였으며 도출된 국제경쟁력 지수를 그룹화하고 연도별로 변화추이를 살펴보았다. 우리나라는 중국시장에서 우리나라 의료기기 품목의 경쟁력을 강화하기 위하여 지속적으로 중국 의료기기 시장 동향을 분석하고 중국시장에서 우리의 시장점유율과 경쟁우위를 파악하여 수출특화품목을 도출하고 발굴해야 할 것이다. In this study, the national competitiveness of Korean and Chinese medical device industry was analyzed through RCA index, MCA index, and TSI index in order to draw the export specialized items possessing the national competitiveness of Korea in Chinese market. The drawn national competitiveness index was grouped and the change progress was examined by years. Korea should analyze the tendency of Chinese medical device market, confirm our market share in the Chinese market, apprehend the competitive superiority, and draw and excavate the specialized export item in order to strengthen the competitiveness of Korean medical device in the Chinese market.

        발달성 난독 초등 1학년생의 읽기 심도와 단어 및 음절구조에 따른 단어 해독력

        배경 및 목적: 본 연구는 한국 발달성 난독 초등 1학년 집단을 읽기능력 심도로 나누어 단어의 의미 유무, 단어구조 및 음절 내 위치에 따른 읽기 특성을 알아보고자 하였다. 방법: 한국 초등 1학년 발달성 난독 아동 20명에게 한국어 읽기검사(KOLRA)의 하위 검사인 단어해독과제를 실시하였다. 대상아동의 경우, 듣기이해력과 지능검사에서 정상범주에 속하였음에도 심도의 단어읽기능력을 가진 아동이었다. 단어 해독능력에 따라 심도 집단과 경심도 집단으로 나누었으며, 자소-음소 일치형 단어를 의미 유무, 단어구조, 음절 내 위치에 따른 집단 차이를 비교하였다. 결과: 심도 집단과 경심도 집단 모두 의미 단어 읽기와 무의미 단어 읽기 사이의 수행 차이가 나타났다. 두 집단은 모두 단어 내 종성 자소 해독에 어려움을 보였는데, 심도 집단의 경우 종성 자소의 개수가 2개일 때 현저한 해독의 어려움이 나타났다. 또한 두 집단은 초성 자소 읽기에 유사한 수행을 보였으나, 심도 집단의 경우 경심도 집단에 비해 중성 자소, 종성 자소 읽기에 더욱 어려움을 보였다. 논의 및 결론: 한국 발달성 난독 초등 1학년 아동들은 단어와 음절구조를 고려한 단어 해독 지원이 신속히 이루어져야 할 것으로 보인다. 따라서 어휘경로를 활용한 의미 단어 읽기뿐만 아니라 중성 및 종성 자소의 구성소 단위(grain size)를 고려한 무의미단어를 통해 비어휘경로를 활성화시킴으로써 심도의 난독증을 가진 한국아동의 단어해독능력을 촉진시킬 수 있을 것이다. Objectives: This study investigated word decoding abilities of 1st graders with Developmental dyslexia according to the level of decoding difficulty, meaning availability, word and syllable structure. Methods: Twenty Korean 1st graders with developmental dyslexia participated in 40 word-reading tasks individually. All of them had severe decoding difficulties, even with normal listening comprehension (KORLA; Pae et al., 2015) and intelligence (K-CTONI-2; Park, 2014). The group differences by decoding difficulties were compared considering the meaning of words, the number of syllable-final graphemes, and the position of each grapheme in a syllable. Results: Both the severe and less-severe group in Korean word-decoding difficulties revealed the gaps between word reading and nonword reading. Both groups had decoding difficulties when a word had syllable-final graphemes, while the severe group had even lower performances in word readings with 2 syllable-final graphemes. Both groups showed similar performances in reading syllable-initial graphemes while the severe group had lower performances both in reading syllable-medial vowel graphemes and syllable-final consonant graphemes compared to the less-severe group. Conclusion: Korean 1st graders with developmental dyslexia seemed to be in urgent need of decoding support considering word and syllable structure. Triggering the non-lexical route with non-words considering the grain size of syllable-medial vowel graphemes and syllable-final graphemes would facilitate word decoding abilities of severely dyslexic Korean children.

        중국 IT 산업의 대ASEAN 수출경쟁력 연구

        Purpose- The purpose of this paper is to analyze the trade structure and competitiveness of the China’s information technology (IT) industry in comparison to that of the ASEAN region. Design/methodology/approach- Indices such as trade specialization index(TSI), Revealed Comparative Advantage(RCA), and the export growth rate are used. Furthermore, this study analyzes the trade competitiveness of the China vis-à-vis that of the ASEAN region by using an adjusted methodology. Findings- The results showed that China’s IT industry exhibited export competitiveness relative to that of the ASEAN improved in 2016 compared to 2006. The competitiveness of each industry-related item improved in the following order: broadcasting apparatus, information apparatus, parts, and communication apparatus. Specifically, the competitiveness of electro-mechanical components and computers have been greatly improved. Research implications or Originality- Most studies aggregate analyses of export competitiveness using methodologies such as TSI, RCA, and market share. However, this method of analysis often results in different results if the competitiveness of an industry is disaggregated and analyzed by item. Therefore, this study analyzes the trade competitiveness of China by using a newly adjusted methodology. The results show that the academic and policy implications of these changes in the IT industry will useful.

      • Dynamics of a Mobile RNA of Potato Involved in a Long-Distance Signaling Pathway[W],[OA]

        BEL1-like transcription factors interact with Knotted1 types to regulate numerous developmental processes. In potato (Solanum tuberosum), the BEL1 transcription factor St BEL5 and its protein partner POTH1 regulate tuber formation by mediating hormone levels in the stolon tip. The accumulation of St BEL5 RNA increases in response to short-day photoperiods, inductive for tuber formation. RNA detection methods and heterografting experiments demonstrate that BEL5 transcripts are present in phloem cells and move across a graft union to localize in stolon tips, the site of tuber induction. This movement of RNA to stolon tips is correlated with enhanced tuber production. Overexpression of BEL5 transcripts that include the untranslated sequences of the BEL5 transcript endows transgenic lines with the capacity to overcome the inhibitory effects of long days on tuber formation. Addition of the untranslated regions leads to preferential accumulation of the BEL5 RNA in stolon tips under short-day conditions. Using a leaf-specific promoter, the movement of BEL5 RNA to stolon tips was facilitated by a short-day photoperiod, and this movement was correlated with enhanced tuber production. These results implicate the transcripts of St BEL5 in a long-distance signaling pathway that are delivered to the target organ via the phloem stream.

        Hybrid Meta-heuristic Adaptive Fuzzy Inference Systems in Rockfill Dam Multi-objective Shape Optimization

        This study aims to approach the optimal design of the Sardasht rockfill dam, while two classic and three hybrid meta-heuristic adaptive nero-fuzzy inference systems (ANFIS) are utilized to estimate the seepage and factor of safety (FOS) according to the simulated values within SEEP/W and SLOP/W. The ANFIS is trained with classic gradient distance (CGD), hybrid back propagation and least square algorithm (BP&LS), particle swarm optimization (PSO), genetic algorithm (GA), and firefly optimization algorithm (FA). The non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-III (NSGA-III) is employed to handle the multi-objective problem when the dam's construction cost, seepage, and FOS are considered as objective functions. Thus, besides an extensive comparison among classic and hybrid meta-heuristic ANFISs, their influences on optimization results are investigated. Comparing the outcomes of ANFISs based on several statistical criteria and the Mann-Whitney test reveals that all ANFISs can estimate the seepage and FOS, and there is no significant difference between estimated and simulated values at 99% confidence level for all ANFISs. Nonetheless, hybrid meta-heuristic ANFISs report higher confidence than ANFIS-CGD and ANFIS-BP&LS, while the PSO improved the confidence of ANFIS more than other algorithms. The NSGA-III is executed 100 times, and optimization results are investigated in terms of the Hypervolume metric. It is found that utilizing meta-heuristic ANFISs, increases the convergence corresponding to the optimal Pareto front by 22.5%. Eventually, the NSGA-III provides two hundred optimal designs, all of which dominate the original design of the Sardasht dam.
