TSAd/Lad is a T cell adaptor molecule involved in p56lck-mediated T cell activation. To investigate the functions of TSAd in T cells, we generated transgenic (TG) mice ex-pressing the SH2 domain of TSAd (TSAd-SH2) under the control of the p56lck proximal promoter. In T cells from TSAd-SH2 TG mice, T cell receptor (TCR)-mediated early signaling events, such as Ca2+ flux and ERK activation, were normal; however, late activation events, such as IL-2 production and proliferation, were significantly reduced. Moreover, TCR-induced cell adhesion to extracellular ma-trix (ECM) proteins and migration through ECM proteins were defective in T cells from TSAd-SH2 TG mice. Fur-thermore, the contact hypersensitivity (CHS) reaction, an inflammatory response mainly mediated by T helper 1 (Th1) cells, was inhibited in TSAd-SH2 TG mice. Taken together, these results show that TSAd, particularly the SH2 domain of TSAd, is essential for the effector functions of T cells.
Disinfection of Iceberg Lettuce by Titanium Dioxide-UV Photocatalytic Reaction

<P>Securing the physical quality and microbial safety of fresh foods has been a major focus in the food industry. To improve quality and increase the shelf life of fresh produce, disinfection methods have been developed. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) photocatalytic reactions under UV radiation produce hydroxyl radicals that can be used for disinfection of foodborne pathogenic bacteria. We investigated the effects of TiO2-UV photocatalytic disinfection on the shelf life of iceberg lettuce. Counts of natural microflora (total aerobic bacteria, coliforms, psychrotrophic bacteria, and yeasts and molds) and inoculated pathogenic bacteria (Escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, and Salmonella Typhimurium) on iceberg lettuce were determined after 20-min treatments with TiO2-UV, UV radiation, a sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) solution, and tap water. TiO2-UV treatment reduced the number of microorganisms by 1.8 to 2.8 log CFU/g compared with reductions of 0.9 to 1.4 and 0.7 to 1.1 log CFU/g obtained with UV radiation and NaOCl treatments, respectively. Treatment with tap water was used as a control and resulted in no reductions. Counts of microflora for iceberg lettuce at 4 and 25°C were determined during a 9-day period. TiO2-UV treatment resulted in 1.2- and 4.3-log increases in the counts of total aerobic bacteria at 4 and 25°C, respectively, compared with 1.3- to 1.6-log and 4.4- to 4.8-log increases due to UV radiation and NaOCl treatments.</P>
다모듈 다위상 양방향 배터리 충방전 시스템의 제어기 설계 및 동특성 해석

본 논문에서는 다모듈 다위상 양방향 배터리 충방전 회로의 소신호 특성을 해석하여, 적절한 제어기 및 보상기 회로설계를 제안한다. 제안된 회로를 바탕으로 폐루프 응답 특성을 시뮬레이션과 측정을 하여 분석하고 검증한다. 최종적으로 설계된 제어기를 적용하여 양방향 배터리 충방전 회로를 동작 시켜봄으로써 안정성과 부하변동에 따른 응답 특성을 관측해 본다.

The adaptor protein, LAD/TSAd, plays essential roles in T cell activation. To further understand the functions of this protein, we performed yeast two-hybrid screening using TSAd as bait and identified 67 kDa laminin binding protein (LBP) as the interacting partner. Subsequently, TSAd-LBP interaction was confirmed in D1.1 T cell line. Upon costimulation by T cell receptor (TCR) plus laminin crosslinking or TCR plus integrin α6 crosslinking, LBP was coimmunoprecipitated with TSAd. Moreover, TCR plus laminin costimulation-dependent T cell migration was enhanced in D1.1 T cells overexpressing TSAd but was disrupted in D1.1 cells overexpressing dominant negative form of TSAd or TSAd shRNA. These data show that, upon TCR plus integrin costimulation, TSAd associates with LBP and mediates T lymphocyte migration.
SOCS-6 binds to the kinase domain of Lck and downregulates T cell receptor signaling

Lck belongs to a Src family of tyrosine kinase and plays essential roles in T cell activation, proliferation, development and migration. Whereas the kinase activity of Lck is regulated by the intramolecular interaction between the SH2 domain and the C-terminal regulatory phosphotyrosine, little information is available for the regulation by the intermolecular interaction. Emloying the yeast two-hybrid system, we found that the kinase domain of Lck is associated with SOCS-6/CIS4, a member of a SOCS(suppressor of Cytokine signaling) family originally characterized as the negative regulators of Jak/STAT signal transduction pathways. On western analysis, SOCS-6 was abundantly expressed in T cells. In Cos cells ectopically expressing SOCS-6 and Lck, SOCS-6 was coimmunoprecipitated with Lck and the expresssion of SOCS-6 resulted in the inhibition of the kinase activity of Lck. Furthurmore, the overexpression of SOCS-6, but not SOCS-1, SOCS-2, CIS and PIAS3, blocked the CD3-crosslinking induced IL-2 promotor activation in T cells. These results supports the role of SOCS-6 in the negative feedback loop of Tcell activation signaling pathways through association with Lck tyrosine kinase.

Biomimetic inchworm-type robot has been developed using segmented solenoids. The electromagnetic force driven robot is composed of 4 solenoids, guide and stopper. Both electromagnetic and friction forces affect the locomotive motion of the robot. We have analyzed the sequential impulses by the segmented solenoids theoretically and numerically. Based on the optimal design by numerical simulation, a prototype of the inchworm robot with a 4 segments of 10 ㎜ in diameter and 12㎜ in length was fabricated. The inchworm robot is shown to travel with the speed above 50 ㎜/s regardless of friction conditions. The bidirectionally moving inchworm robot with high traveling speed can be applied to various engineering fields in the future.
에틸 이소시아네이트와 프로필 이소시아네이트의 GC/FID 분석

The purpose of this study is the development of the simple and precise determination method of ethyl isocyanate (EIC) and propyl isocyanate (PIC) through derivatization using secondary aliphatic amines by gas chromatography with flame ionization detector. The urea derivatives are quantitatively and simultaneously derived from EIC and PIC with secondary aliphatic amines such as dipropylamine, dibutylamine, and dipentylamine in methylene chloride, and con-firmed by thin layer chromatography and gas chromatography with mass selective detector. For GC/FID, according to the increasing carbon atom of the amines, the retention time and peak area of the urea derivatives are increased. The instrumental detection limits for EIC and PIC were about 23.3~34.8㎍ and 21.6~28.9㎍, respectively.
