von Willebrand's disease (vWD) is the most common autosomal-dominant inherited disorder resulting from a quantitative or a qualitative defect of von Willebrand factor (vWF). The most diagnostic pattern is the combination of a prolonged bleeding time, a reduction in plasma vWF concentration, a parallel reduction in ristocetin cofactor activity, and reduced factor Ⅷ activity, In this case, ristocetin-induced platelet aggregation data were compatible with that of vWD. Bleeding times were prolonged over 4 minutes, vWF antigen levels were 45%. vWF ristocetin cofactor activities were 0~1% and factor Ⅷ levels were 31%, when compared to the normal control. We report the case of a family with vWD. characterized by a quantitative defect in vWF

Chronic neutrophilic leukemia is a very rare myeloproliferative disorder which is characterized by severe sustained mature neutrophilic leukocytosis in peripheral blood (PB), hepatosplenomegaly, elevated leukocyte alkaline phosphatase, serum uric acid. serun viatmin B 12 and the bleeding tendency despite normal platelet count and coagulation time, absence of philadelphia chromosome, and the absence of fever or underlying infection or disease sufficient to mimic a leukemoid reaction. We have experienced a 34-years-old male patient with atypical chronic neutrophilic leukemia. On admission, the leukocyte count was 56,860/uL. severe neutrophic leukocytosis with 76% neutrophils and rare immature forms on PB smear. Many neutrophils had toxic granules, and vacuoloes. Leukocyte alkaline phosphatase score was decreased. The cytogenetic study showed Philadelphia chromosome negative with normal karyotype.
Approaches to radar reflectivity bias correction to improve rainfall estimation in Korea

<P><p><strong>Abstract.</strong> Three methods for determining the reflectivity bias of single polarization radar using dual polarization radar reflectivity and disdrometer data (i.e., the equidistance line, overlapping area, and disdrometer methods) are proposed and evaluated for two low-pressure rainfall events that occurred over the Korean Peninsula on 25 August 2014 and 8 September 2012. Single polarization radar reflectivity was underestimated by more than 12 and 7<span class='thinspace'></span>dB in the two rain events, respectively. All methods improved the accuracy of rainfall estimation, except for one case where drop size distributions were not observed, as the precipitation system did not pass through the disdrometer location. The use of these bias correction methods reduced the RMSE by as much as 50<span class='thinspace'></span>%. Overall, the most accurate rainfall estimates were obtained using the overlapping area method to correct radar reflectivity.</p> </P>
Decadal Variation in Raindrop Size Distributions in Busan, Korea

<P>This paper investigated the variability of raindrop size distributions (DSDs) in Busan, Korea, using data from two different disdrometers: a precipitation occurrence sensor system (POSS) and a particle size velocity (Parsivel) optical disdrometer. DSDs were simulated using a gamma model to assess the intercomparability of these two techniques. Annual rainfall amount was higher in 2012 than in 2002, as were the annually averaged<SUB>Dm</SUB>(which was 0.1 mm greater in 2012) and the frequency of convective rain. Severe rainfall (greater than 20 mm h<SUP>−1</SUP>) occurred more frequently and with a larger<SUB>Dm</SUB>in 2012. The values of<SUB>Dm</SUB>from July, August, and December, 2012, were much greater than from other months when compared with 2002. Larger raindrops contributed to the higher rain rates that were observed in the morning during 2012, whereas relatively smaller raindrops dominated in the afternoon. These results suggest that the increase in raindrop size that has been observed in Busan may continue in the future; however, more research will be required if we are to fully understand this phenomenon. Rainfall variables are highly dependent on drop size and so should be recalculated using the newest DSDs to allow more accurate polarimetric radar rainfall estimation.</P>
