Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for use in the upgrade of healthcare for the elderly and to provide guidance toward educating the elderly in the proper use of medications by determining the level of drug knowledge, current use, and adherence by the elderly. Method: The participants of this study were selected using the convenient sampling method. Participants of this study comprised of 160 elderly who were aged 65 or older, who were participants to the elderly municipal welfare center in Seoul. The instrument used for this study was a structured questionnaire (Han,2011). Collected data were analyzed using the SPSS20.0 program with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Result: The mean score for drug knowledge was 7.6±2.9 and drug misuse was 4.7±2.8. There were significant differences about drug knowledge according to the following: level of education (F=8.053 p=.000), and spouse (t=2.14 p=.034). There were significant differences between drug misuse and monthly income (F=2.167 p=.040). There was no statistically significant relationship between drug knowledge and drug misuse (r=-.087, p=.271). Conclusion: A replication study based on broader region and in-depth research is needed. The development of the customized education protocol considering various levels of education, income, spouse and physical condition are needed. Further research is suggested to find out the status of medication education for the elderly by nurses.

Justicidin A is a structurally defined arylnaphthalide lignan, which has been shown anti-cancer activity; however, the neuroprotective effect of justicidin A is still untested. In this study, we investigated the action of justicidin A on amyloid beta (A beta)(25-35)-induced neuronal cell death via inhibition of the hyperphosphorylation of tau and induction of autophagy in SH-SY5Y cells. Pretreatment with justicidin A significantly elevated cell viability in cells treated with A beta(25-35). Western blot data demonstrated that justicidin A inhibited the A beta(25-35)-induced up-regulation the levels of hyperphosphorylation of tau in SH-SY5Y cells. In addition, treatment with justicidin A significantly induced autophagy as measured by the increasing LC3 II/I ratio, an important autophagy marker. These studies showed that justicidin A inhibited activity of glycogen synthase kinase-3beta (GSK-3 beta), which is an important kinase in up-stream signaling pathways; inhibited hyperphosphorylation of tau in AD; and enhanced activity of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), which is the key molecule for both hyperphosphorylation of tau and induction of autophagy. These data provide the first evidence that justicidin A protects SH-SY5Y cells from A beta(25-35)-induced neuronal cell death through inhibition of hyperphosphorylation of tau and induction of autophagy via regulation the activity of GSK-3 beta and AMPK, and they also provide some insights into the relationship between tau protein hyperphosphorylation and autophagy. Thus, we conclude that justicidin A may have a potential role for neuroprotection and, therefore, may be used as a therapeutic agent for AD.

The pathophysiological processes of inflammation can lead to a host of diseases, such as periodontitis, atherosclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and even cancer. The dysregulated inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) activation play important roles in the development of certain inflammatory diseases. Here, we investigated the effects of CDr10b which is originally developed for a microglia staining probe on inflammation, by modulating NF-κB activation and iNOS and COX-2 expression induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in murine macrophages. The CDr10b suppressed NF-κB activation and iNOS and COX-2 expression induced by LPS. All the results suggest that CDr10b is a promising novel agent for the treatment of inflammatory diseases.

Changes in the expression of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP or TrATPase, tartrate-resistant acid-ATPase), and bone morphogenic protein-6 (BMP6, also known as Vgr-1) were characterized during chondrocyte differentiation and osteogenesis in fetal mouse metatarsals. Histochemical observations demonstrate an increase in ALP expression both in differentiating hypertrophic chondrocytes and in osteogenic cells of the surrounding perichondrium/periosteum during days 15, 16, 17, and 18, of gestation. Expression of TRAP is first localized to a few small mononuclear osteoclast precursors in the periosteum of day 16 limbs and then a marked increase is demonstrated between days 17 and 18 of gestation as osteoclasts/chondroclasts invade periosteal bone surfaces and spicules of mineralized cartilage. Enzyme assays show a 9-fold increase in ALP activity in the developing limbs from day 15 to day 18 of gestation (0.05 to 0.43 mmole p-nitrophenol hydrolyzed/min/mg protein), and a 5.5-fold increase in TrATPase activity for the same time period (0.15 to 0.80% [^32P]g-ATP hydrolyzed/min/mg protein). Steady state levels of RNA for ALP, TRAP, and BMP6/Vgr-1 were evaluated using quantitative PCR amplification and our results demonstrate a 5-fold increase in ALP, a 500-fold increase in TRAP/TrATPase, and a 6-fold increase in BMP6/Vgr-1 mRNA levels between days 15 and 18 of gestation.

According to the adoption of inverter circuit topology for welding machine area, the improvement of welding performance can be achieved However conventional CO2 inverter arc welding machine uses the constant voltage characteristics So the metal transfer is performed under unoptimum condition in the sence of spatter generation
In this paper the new control algorithm is proposed for welding machine, which is the instantaneous output current control method using single chip microprocessor But the optimum waveform of welding current is still uncertain, as a first step for figuring out the optimised waveforms, this study was performed And as a result of performance test of the proposed system, it was demonstrated that all of the waveform variation parameter could be set individually and the generated spatter is reduced compared to conventional inverter arc welding machine.
A boundary radial point interpolation method (BRPIM) for 2-D structural analyses
Gu, Y.T.,Liu, G.R. Techno-Press 2003 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.15 No.5
In this paper, a boundary-type meshfree method, the boundary radial point interpolation method (BRPIM), is presented for solving boundary value problems of two-dimensional solid mechanics. In the BRPIM, the boundary of a problem domain is represented by a set of properly scattered nodes. A technique is proposed to construct shape functions using radial functions as basis functions. The shape functions so formulated are proven to possess both delta function property and partitions of unity property. Boundary conditions can be easily implemented as in the conventional Boundary Element Method (BEM). The Boundary Integral Equation (BIE) for 2-D elastostatics is discretized using the radial basis point interpolation. Some important parameters on the performance of the BRPIM are investigated thoroughly. Validity and efficiency of the present BRPIM are demonstrated through a number of numerical examples.
