      • Fast Thresholding Based on Improved Minimum Cross Entropy

        Image segmentation is an important and classic problem in image processing and computer vision. Thresholding is applied to many fields, because of its less computation and stable performance. The key of thresholding method is to determine the adaptive threshold. In order to segment biological image effectively, a new adaptive thresholding method is proposed. First, two dimension minimum entropy is computed based on gray-gradient co-occurrence matrix; and then the genetic algorithm is applied to encode the two-dimension threshold vector; Finally, the optimum threshold is calculated based on fitness function and uniformity measurement(UM). Experimental results show that this method has three advantages: 1) improve computational efficiency so that it can run in real time; 2) retain more object and edge information so that it can meet the practical requirement; 3) robust to the uneven distribution of light.

        Four Apolipoprotein B gene polymorphisms and the risk for coronary artery disease: a meta-analysis of 47 studies

        Apolipoprotein B plays a central role in lipoprotein metabolism. Many studies have evaluated the association between Apolipoprotein B gene polymorphisms (XbaI, EcoRI, SpIns/Del, MspI) and the risk for coronary artery disease and myocardial infarction. However, the results remain inconsistent, particularly among different populations. To more precisely determine the association between Apolipoprotein B gene polymorphisms and coronary artery disease/myocardial infarction risk, we performed a meta-analysis via a comprehensive search of electronic databases (up to February 1st, 2015), odds ratios (OR) and 95 % confidence intervals were calculated using a fixed or random effect model. A total of 47 studies, with 9411 coronary artery disease/myocardial infarction cases and 9082 controls, were included in this meta-analysis. The combined results revealed significant associations between an increased risk of coronary artery disease/myocardial infarction and EcoRI (AA vs GG: OR 1.511, 95 % confidence interval (CI) 1.098, 2.078) and SpIns/Del (DD vs II: OR 1.331, 95 % CI 1.064, 1.665) alleles in the general population. In a subgroup analysis stratified by ethnicity, the T allele of the XbaI variant was associated with a decreased risk in Caucasians, whereas it was associated with an increased risk among the East Asian population. No significant correlation was detected between the A allele of the MspI variant and the coronary artery disease/myocardial infarction risk in either the general population or any ethnic subgroup. The results of our study suggest that Apolipoprotein B gene polymorphisms may affect the coronary artery disease/myocardial infarction susceptibility and these effects may display notable discrepancies among different populations.

        Endovascular Treatment of Traumatic Pseudoaneurysm Presenting as Intractable Epistaxis

        Objective: To investigate the clinical efficacy of individual endovascular management for the treatment of different traumatic pseudoaneurysms presenting as intractable epistaxis. Materials and Methods: For 14 consecutive patients with traumatic pseudoaneurysm presenting as refractory epistaxes, 15 endovascular procedures were performed. Digital subtraction angiography revealed that the pseudoaneurysms originated from the internal maxillary artery in eight patients; and all were treated with occlusion of the feeding artery. In six cases, they originated from the internal carotid artery (ICA); out of which, two were managed with detachable balloons, two with covered stents, one by means of cavity embolization, and the remaining one with parent artery occlusion. All of these cases were followed up clinically from six to 18 months, with a mean follow up time of ten months; moreover, three cases were also followed with angiography. Results: Complete cessation of bleeding was achieved in all the 15 instances (100%) immediately after the endovascular therapies. Of the six patients who suffered from ICA pseudoaneurysms, one presented with a permanent stroke and one had an episode of rebleeding requiring intervention. Conclusion: In patients presenting with a history of craniocerebral trauma, traumatic pseudoaneurysm must be considered as a differential diagnosis. Individual endovascular treatment is a relatively safe, plausible, and reliable means of managing traumatic pseudoaneurysms.         Primitive trigeminal artery (PTA) and primitive otic artery (POA) is a very rare entity in adult life. We present a case of PTA and POA associated with a giant unruptured cavernous aneurysm in a 54-year-old woman. The PTA and the POA arose from the sac of the aneurysm directly, which greatly complicated endovascular therapy management.

        Molecular Dynamics Simulation to Investigate the Rake Angle Effects on Nanometric Cutting of Single Crystal Ni3Al

        Molecular dynamics, an eff ective method to gain an insight into nanometric behaviour of materials, was employed to studythe nano-cutting behaviour of single crystal Ni 3 Al in nanometric scale. In this paper, comparisons were made for compressive/tensile stress, subsurface damage and surface roughness with three rake angles of a diamond tool. Subsurface damage waspartitioned by region and studied with work hardening in detail. A model for precise characterization of surface roughnesswas established with consideration of local surface fl uctuation. Simulation results showed that the chip thickness increasedas rake angle changed from negative to positive, and the boundary formed between tensile and compressive stress was inconsistent with the glide direction of stacking fault. Subsurface damage decreased as the increase of rake angle, and regularglide planes of stacking faults were found in front of the cutting tool. Further, the pinned dissociated 1/2 < 110 > superpartialdislocation with anti-phase boundary was demonstrated. The model was tested and characterized by implanted pits onperfect surface. Results showed that surface roughness can be well characterized, and an evident discrepancy was observedamong three rake angles, especially for 30° rake angle, which showed an distinct smooth surface compared with the others.

        Analytical Behavior of Eccentrically Loaded Concrete Encased Steel Columns Subjected to Standard Fire including Cooling Phase

        A nonlinear 3-D finite element analysis (FEA) model was developed to predict the behavior of eccentrically loaded concrete encased steel (CES) columns subjected to ISO-834 standard fire including heating and cooling phases. The finite element model has been validated against published tests conducted at elevated temperatures. Comparisons between the predicted results and the test results show that this model can accurately predict the behavior of CES columns under fire. The FEA model was then used to investigate the typical temperature-time curve and mid-height lateral deformation-time curve of eccentric compression CES columns in a complete loading history including initial loading, heating and cooling. It is shown that the temperature delay is obvious at the inner layers of concrete. The fire resistance of a CES column should be checked for the full process of fire exposure until temperatures everywhere in the column start to decrease. The lateral deformation of the column still gradually increases during the cooling phase and the column may fail during that phase. There is a large residual deformation after the fire exposure. Furthermore, the variables that influence the behavior of the CES columns under fire were investigated in parametric studies. It is found that the main parameters which influence the lateral deformation-time curve of the column during the full process of fire exposure are load ratio, slenderness ratio, duration time, depth to width ratio and steel ratio, and the main parameters which influence the residual deformation ratio of the column after fire are load ratio, duration time, cross-sectional depth and steel ratio.

        ACCURACY OF LAMOST DR1 STELLAR PARAMETERS

        We adopt the PASTEL catalog combined with SIMBAD radial velocities as a testing standard to validate the stellar parameters (effective temperature $T_{eff}$, surface gravity log g, metallicity [Fe/H] and radial velocity $V_r$) from the first data release (DR1) of The Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) survey. After applying data reduction and temperature constraints to the sample obtained by cross-identification, we compare the stellar parameters from DR1 and PASTEL. The results show that the DR1 results are reliable under certain conditions. We derive a dispersion of 110 K, 0.19 dex, 0.11 dex and $4.91kms^{-1}$ in specified effective temperature ranges, for $T_{eff}$, log g, [Fe/H] and $V_r$ respectively. Systematic errors are negligible except for those of $V_r$. In addition, for stars with PASTEL [Fe/H] < -1:5, the metallicities in DR1 are systematically higher than those in PASTEL.

        Retinoic Acid Promotes Interleukin-4 Plasmid-Dimethylsulfoxide Topical Transdermal Delivery for Treatment of Psoriasis

        Background: Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that is caused by a shift in the Th1/Th2 balance toward Th1- dominant immunity. It has been established as an effective treatment to counteract psoriasis by subcutaneous injection of recombinant interleukin (IL)-4, and IL-4 gene therapy by topical transdermal penetration has shown its antipsoriatic effect in mice. Retinoic acid (RA) and dimethylsulfoxide can increase the efficiency of gene transfection in the topical transdermal delivery system. Objective: We investigated whether RA could improve anti-psoriasis efficiency using IL-4 expression plasmid pORF-mIL-4 (pIL-4) via transdermal delivery system in K14-vascular endothelial growth (K14- VEGF) factor transgenic mice. Methods: After pretreatment with RA, plasmid pIL-4 in 10% dimethylsulfoxide was applied to the ear skin by topical transdermal penetration. Hematoxylin- eosin staining and immunohistochemistry were performed with ear samples to evaluate anti-psoriasis efficiency in mice. Results: The psoriasis pathological features were relieved and psoriasis-associated factors were significantly reduced. Conclusion: Our results reveal that topical application of pIL-4 in dimethylsulfoxide by transdermal delivery with RA pretreatment can improve psoriasis significantly.         Knockout of the EgriBLOS2 gene results in the transparent integuments of Ectropis grisescens larvae

        The body colors of insects have evolved specialized roles in body protection, signaling and physiology. In some case, the larvae can camouflage their body colors to adapt the habitants and protect themselves. However, the genetic and molecular basis on larval body colors of the tea geometrid, Ectropis grisescens, remains poorly known. Here, we reported an effect of the lysosome-related organelles complex-1, subunit 2 (EgriBLOS2) gene knockout on larval integuments of E. grisescens, by using a clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 9 (Cas9) system. Combining transcriptomic data and PCR approaches, we first identified the EgriBLOS2 gene from E. grisescens, which encoded 137 amino acids and comprised 3 introns. In the phylogenetic analysis, EgriBLOS2 clustered in the Lepidoptera clade with high conservation to members in other lepidopteran species. Developmental expression profiles revealed that EgriBLOS2 was constantly tran scribed at each stage, in which its expression was significantly lower in 2nd instar larvae than that of other instars. After injecting EgriBLOS2-specific guide RNA and Cas9 messenger RNA into eggs, 70% of larvae showed the translucent integuments in G0 generation, with an emphasis on black splayed patterns in the 2nd and 8th segments of abdomens. However, some typical characteristics of larvae were not obviously changed in mutant instars, such as ocelli, mouthparts and other appendants. This study has unraveled the roles of EgriBLOS2 in the formation of larval integument colors, and provides an alternative strategy for pest management based on the colors in this species.
