        Variational surface design under normal field guidance

        This paper proposes a novel method for shape design of a Bezier surface with given boundary curves. The surface is defined as the minimizer of an extended membrane functional or an extended thin plate functional under the guidance of a specified normal field together with an initial prescribed surface. For given boundary curves and the guiding normal field, the free coefficients of a Bezier surface are obtained by solving a linear system. Unlike previous PDE based surface modeling techniques which construct surfaces just from boundaries, our proposed method can be used to generate smooth and fair surfaces that even follow a specified normal field. Several interesting examples are given to demonstrate the applications of the proposed method in geometric modeling.

        Evaluation of a Novel Array-Based Toxoplasma, Rubella, Cytomegalovirus, and Herpes Simplex Virus IgG Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay and Its Comparison with Virion/Serion Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assays

        Background: The dramatic increase in use of the IgG test for toxoplasma, rubella, cyto- megalovirus (CMV), and herpes simplex virus (HSV) [TORCH] has led to the requirement for a high-efficiency method that can be used in the clinical laboratory. This study aimed to compare the results of BGI-Array ELISA TORCH IgG (BGI-GBI, China) screening method to those of Virion/Serion TORCH IgG ELISA (Virion/Serion, Germany). Methods: Serum specimens (n=400) submitted for routine IgG testing by Virion/Serion ELISA were also tested using the BGI-Array ELISA method. The agreements of these two kinds of method were analyzed by κ-coefficients calculation. Results: Following repeat testing, the BGI-Array ELISA TORCH IgG assays demonstrated agreements of 99.5% (398/400 specimens), 98% (392/400 specimens), 99% (396/400 specimens), and 99.5% (398/400 specimens), respectively. The BGI-Array ELISA IgG as- says provided results comparable to Virion/Serion ELISA results, with κ-coefficients show- ing near-perfect agreement for the HSV (κ=0.87), rubella (κ=0.92) and CMV (κ=0.93) and substantial agreement for the toxoplasma (κ=0.80) IgG assays. The use of the BGI- Array ELISA TORCH IgG assays could reduce the turnaround time (1.5 hr vs. 5 hr by Vi- rion/Serion ELISA for 100 specimens) and were easy to use. Conclusions: BGI-Array ELISA TORCH IgG shows a good agreement with Virion/Serion ELISA methods and is suitable for clinical application.

      • A Fusion Model for Securities Analysts' Stock Rating Information Based on the Evidential Reasoning Algorithm under Two-dimensional Progressive Recognition Framework

        Securities analysts' forecast information can effectively reduce the uncertainty of information in securities markets, and can also promote effective allocation in capital market. The personality difference of securities analysts will lead to different analysis results. In order to improve the utilization of analysts' forecast information, evidential reasoning algorithm under two-dimensional progressive framework and grouping method for combining evidence were used in this paper to fuse securities analysts' stock rating information. Based on the forecast earnings information and stock rating information of analysts, we constructed a two-dimensional progressive framework, and then fused stock rating information of multiple analysts into one piece of evidence information. Finally, we empirically verified the model in this paper by using Chinese analysts' forecast information. The analysis on the fusion results have shown that: compared to traditional statistic model, the accuracy, certainty and the discrimination of the fusion results in our model have been improved.

        Coexistence of OSCR-Based IR-UWB System with IEEE 802.11a WLAN

        Impulse radio (IR) is a competitive candidate for ultra-wideband (UWB) systems. In this letter, we evaluated the coexistence of an IR-UWB system based on an orthogonal sinusoidal correlation receiver (OSCR) with an IEEE 802.11a WLAN through a detailed simulation. The coexistence performance of the two systems is characterized in terms of the receiver’s bit-error rates. Then, some approaches to interference mitigation are discussed.

        The 16-year experience in treating low-risk gestational trophoblastic neoplasia patients with failed primary methotrexate chemotherapy

        Objective: To assess the outcomes and toxic effects of 5-day actinomycin D (Act-D) salvagetherapy and to explore the predictors of Act-D resistance in patients with low-risk gestationaltrophoblastic neoplasia (GTN)who failed 5-day methotrexate (MTX) chemotherapy. Methods: This retrospective study analyzed patients with low-risk GTN administered Act-Dsalvage therapy after failing MTX chemotherapy at Women's Hospital, School of MedicineZhejiang University between January 2000 and December 2015. The clinical parameters ofthese patients were collected and analyzed. Results: The final analysis included 89 cases. Of these, 73 cases (82.02%) responded tosalvage Act-D. The remaining 16 resistant cases were switched to etoposide, MTX, Act-D/cyclophosphamide, and vincristine chemotherapy and achieved complete remission. Serumhuman chorionic gonadotrophin levels before Act-D salvage therapy (hCGAct-D)in the Act-D resistant cases were significantly higher than those in the Act-D responders (median 605 vs. 103 IU/L, p=0.009). However, the range of hCGAct-D values in Act-D responders was wider thanthat in Act-D-resistant cases (5.76–16,664 IU/L vs. 11.43–6,732 IU/L). Thus, assigning a generalcut-off value was difficult considering the individual setting. Except for 2 cases requiring othersalvage regimens due to Act-D toxicity, 97.80% of cases (89/91) tolerated the toxicity. During atleast 1-year follow-up, the survival rate was 100.00% and no case developed recurrence. Conclusion: Based on the good therapeutic effect and tolerable toxicity, we recommendAct-D salvage therapy for all patients with low-risk GTN who fail primary MTX chemotherapy. The higher serum hCG levels before Act-D salvage therapy may be associated with resistanceto this treatment.

        재무부정의 동기: 중국 루이씽커피의 사례를 중심으로

        루이씽커피는 중국의 신흥 커피 브랜드다. 루이씽커피는 온라인과 오프라인에서 운영되는 저렴한 커피 브랜드를 만들었으며 2019년에 성공적으로 나스닥에 상장하였다. 하지만 2020년에 루이씽커피의 재무부정이 폭로되었고 얼마 지나지 않아서 상장폐지 되었다. 따라서 본 연구는 루이씽커피의 재무부정이 왜 일어났는지 그 이유에 대해 설명하고 해결책을 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구는 사례연구 방법과 재무분석 방법을 적용하여 루이씽커피의 재무부정의 원인을 탐욕, 기회, 수요, 공개요인의 관점에서 해석하였다. 본 연구는 루이씽커피의 사례를 통해 기업들이 지배구조를 발전시키고 내부 통제를 강화해야 한다는 것을 제시하고 있다. Luckin Coffee is an emerging coffee band in China. It created an inexpensive coffee brand operating online and offline and soon successfully got listed on NASDAQ in 2019. However, Luckin Coffee’s financial fraud was revealed in 2020 and it was delisted shortly after. Therefore, this study aims to explain the reason why Luckin Coffee’s financial corruption occurred and suggest the solutions. The study applied the case study method and the financial analysis method to explain the causes of Luckin Coffee’s financial fraud in terms of greed, opportunity, demand, and exposure factors. This study suggests that companies should develop their governance structure and strengthen internal control through case of Luckin Coffee.

        NF-${\kappa}B$ activation was involved in reactive oxygen species-mediated apoptosis and autophagy in 1-oxoeudesm-11(13)-eno-$12,8{\alpha}$-lactone-treated human lung cancer cells

        1-oxoeudesm-11(13)-eno-$12,8{\alpha}$-lactone (OEL), a novel eudesmane-type sesquiterpene compound, has been shown to inhibit the growth of some cancer cell lines and induce significant apoptosis. Here, we investigated the anticancer activities of OEL in human lung cancer cells. Our studies demonstrated that OEL induced both apoptosis and autophagy in A549 and H460 cells. OEL-induced autophagy was assessed by appearance of autophagic vacuoles, formation of acidic vesicular organelles, conversion of LC3-I to LC3-II, recruitment of LC3-II to the autophagosomes, and activation of autophagy genes. Furthermore, administration of autophagic inhibitor 3-methyladenine augments OEL-induced apoptotic cell death. The induction of autophagy and apoptosis by OEL links to NF-${\kappa}B$ activation and the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Interruption of NF-${\kappa}B$ activation by specific inhibitor promotes apoptosis, but decreases autophagy. ROS antioxidants (N-acetylcysteine) attenuated both OEL-induced autophagy and apoptosis. Further experiments confirmed that OEL-induced activation of ROS was increased by NF-${\kappa}B$ inhibitor whereas NF-${\kappa}B$ activation was not affected by ROS inhibition. These findings suggest that OEL-elicited autophagic response plays a protective role that impedes cell death, and inhibition of autophagy could be an adjunctive strategy for enhancing the chemotherapeutic effect of OEL as an antitumor agent.

        Clonal Spread of Carbapenem Non-susceptible Acinetobacter baumannii in an Intensive Care Unit in a Teaching Hospital in China

        Background: This study was aimed to investigate the genetic diversity and antibiotic resistance profile of the nosocomial infection agent Acinetobacter baumannii from a medical intensive care unit (ICU) in a teaching hospital in Suzhou, China. Methods: The genetic relationship among A. baumannii isolates in an ICU was investigated using multilocus sequence typing (MLST). The antibiotic resistance pattern was determined by performing an antibiotic susceptible test, which included an agar dilution method and an E-test method. Resistant determinants, e.g., carbapenemase genes, metallo-β- lactamases, and class 1 integron, were analyzed by specific PCR and DNA sequencing. Results: In the present study, 33 non-duplicate isolates were identified as 5 existing sequence types (STs) (ST92, ST75, ST112, ST145, and ST345) and 1 new sequence type STn, which has a G-A mutation at nt268 on ropD40 of ST251. These results reveal limited diversity in carbapenem non-susceptible A. baumannii (CNSAb) isolates in our ICU, which are comprised of only 2 distinct STs, with ST92 and ST75 clustering into a clonal complex (CC) 92. Most CNSAb isolates (94.4%, 17/18) harbored the OXA-23 gene, while no carbapenem-susceptible A. baumannii (CSAb) isolates harbored it. In addition, 66.7% (22/33) isolates were positive for class 1 integrase, and gene cassette analysis showed there are 3 gene arrays among them, i.e., aacA4-catB8-aadA1 (77.3%, 17/22), aacA4 (22.7%, 5/22), and aacC1-orfX-orfX’-aadA1 (4.5%, 1/22). Conclusions: When all these data are combined, the antibiotic resistance and wide distribution of CNSAb isolates in our ICU are probably caused by expansion of the CC92 clone.         A prevalence survey of Wolbachia in Polytremis fukia (Lepidoptera: Hesperiidae)

        Wolbachia are endosymbiotic bacteria that infect arthropod and nematode hosts. Only a few studies have been made on Wolbachia in butterflies. In this study, we identified and determined the molecular characteristics of Wolbachia strains in Polytremis fukia (Lepidoptera: Hesperiidae), from seven locations in China. We also sequenced three portions of the mitochondrial DNA from the individuals of P. fukia to infer the effect of Wolbachia on host mitochondrial variation. The results show that 47% (15/32) are Wolbachia positive among all specimens. The infection rates in female and male are 69% (11/16) and 25% (4/16). Phylogenetic analysis of variation in the ftsZ gene from the two strains of Wolbachia (wFuk1 and wFuk2) showed they belonged to supergroup A. On the phylogeny of the mitochondrialDNA fromP. fukia, the sequences are split into three clades. Clade I and II are consistent with the distribution of geographical population. Clade III consists of eight females invariably infected with wFuk1which showed aweak association existed between mitochondrial DNA haplotypes andwFuk1 infection status.
