<P>Proper folding and maintenance of the native structure are central to protein function and are assisted by a family of proteins called chaperones. Calreticulin and calnexin are ER resident chaperones well conserved from worm to human. Calreticulin/calnexin knock-out mice exhibit a severe phenotype, whereas in Caenorhabditis elegans, calreticulin [crt-1(jh101)]- and calnexin [cnx-1(nr2009)]-null mutant worms exhibit only a mild phenotype, suggesting the possible existence of alternative chaperone machinery that can compensate for the deficiency of calreticulin and/or calnexin. In order to rapidly identify the compensatory chaperone components involved in this process, we analyzed the proteome of crt-1(jh101) mutants and [crt-1(jh101);cnx-1(nr2009)] double mutants. When grown at 20°C, we found that five proteins were up-regulated and two proteins were down-regulated in crt-1(jh101) mutants; nine proteins were up-regulated and five proteins were down-regulated in [crt-1(jh101);cnx-1(nr2009)] double mutants. In addition, elevation of the cultivation temperature to 25°C, which is still permissive to growth but causes specific defects in mutants, led to the identification of several additional proteins. Interestingly, the consistent increment of heat shock protein-70 family members (hsp70) together with protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) at all the examined conditions suggests the possible compensatory function imparted by hsp70 and PDI family members in the absence of calreticulin and/or calnexin.</P>

Calcineurin is a Ca2+/Calmodulin activated Ser/Thr phos-phatase that is well conserved from yeast to human. It is composed of catalytic subunit A (CnA) and regulatory subunit B (CnB). C. elegans homolog of CnA and CnB has been annotated to tax-6 and cnb-1, respectively and in vivo function of both genes has been intensively studied. In C. elegans, calcineurin play roles in various signaling path-ways such as fertility, movement, body size regulation and serotonin-mediated egg laying. In order to understand additional signaling pathway(s) in which calcineurin func-tions, we screened for binding proteins of TAX-6 and found a novel binding protein, HLH-11. The HLH-11, a member of basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) proteins, is a pu-tative counterpart of human AP4 transcription factor. Pre-viously bHLH transcription factors have been implicated to regulate many developmental processes such as cell pro-liferation and differentiation, sex determination and myo-genesis. However, the in vivo function of hlh-11 is largely unknown. Here, we show that hlh-11 is expressed in phar-ynx, intestine, nerve cords, anal depressor and vuvla mus-cles where calcineurin is also expressed. Mutant analyses reveal that hlh-11 may have role(s) in regulating body size and reproduction. More interestingly, genetic epistasis suggests that hlh-11 may function to regulate serotonin-mediated egg laying at the downstream of tax-6.
임의의 직교 블록 변환 영역에서의 영상 크기 변환 방법

본 논문에서는 임의의 직교 블록 변환 영역에서 직접 영상 크기를 변경하는 기법을 개발한다. 이를 위해, 임의 직교 변환영역에서 영상 크기 변환을 수행하는 모든 과정을 행렬 곱으로 표현하여, 해상도 변환을 수행하는 행렬을 유도한다. 해상도 변환 행렬은 영상 특성에 따라 직교 블록 변환에 알맞은 일반식으로 설계한다. 개발된 기법은 기존의 실수 DCT 영역 뿐만 아니라 H.264/AVC에 적용 가능한 4×4 Modified DCT 및 Hadamard 변환과 같은 다양한 직교 변환 영역에 적용할 수 있고, 동영상 부호화시 사용되는 대표적인 시퀀스 영상들의 해상도 변환에 적용 가능함을 실험을 통하여 검증하였다. This paper develops a methodology for resizing the resolution of an image in an arbitrary block transform domain. To accomplish this, we represent the procedures resizing images in an orthogonal transform domain in the form of matrix multiplications from which the matrix scaling the image resolutions is produce. The experiments showed that the proposed method produces the reliable performances without increasing the computational complexity, compared to conventional methods when applied to various transforms.

Artificial reproduction of accurate/controllable thermal sensation to haptic signal is required to construct a more realistic virtual reality(VR) environment. In this study, a skin-like, highly soft and stretchable bi-functional thermo-haptic device is reported with a single device structure. The skin-like thermo-haptic(STH) device can actively cool down and heat up its deformable surface to mimic desirable thermal sensation. This new type of STH device is expected to offer potential implications to provide valuable thermal information for VR technology and medical thermal treatment.
Local Contrast와 빛 전달량 기반 Single Image의 안개 정도 측정 방법

This paper has proposed a single image based fog degree quantification method by measuring both transmission and local contrast. The proposed method estimates the foggy expected regions from transmission, and then assesses the size of regions of which transmission values are foggy expected ones and the range of local contrast value on such regions. Compared with fog degree gauged by the scattering coefficient measurement sensor, the proposed method quantifies the fog degree with more than 95% accuracy for images containing various objects and environments. We also developed a technique that measures the local contrast values in process of measuring transmission values. So, the proposed method does not increase complexity compared to the existing transmission method.

본 논문에서는 L1-norm 기반 이산 극좌표에서의 방사형 영상처리 기법을 제안하고자 한다. 위를 위하여, 먼저 L2-norm기반 극좌표는 이산 시스템에서 존재할 수 없음을 확인하였고, Cartesian 좌표를 이산 극좌표로 변환하는 기법을 개발하였다. 제안된 방법을 유방암 영상의 안정화와 극도의 무정형 물체 경계 탐지에 적용한다. Cartesian 좌표계에서 수행된 Gaussian 필터링 방법과 비교하여, 제안된 방법은 전반적인 방사형 mass 영상을 유지하는 동안 영상 신호를 안정화했다. 기존의 경계 탐지기가 무정형 물체의 모양을 정확하게 찾을 수 없는 반면, 제안된 경계 탐지 기법은 높은 정밀도로 탐지해낸다. 본 논문은 또한, 홍채 영상 분리 기법에의 응용과 좋은 검증 결과를 갖게 되었다. We propose a radial image processing method in a discrete polar coordinate system based on L1-norm. For this purpose, we first verified that the polar coordinate based on L2-norm can not exist in discrete system and then develop a method converting the Cartesian coordinate to the discrete polar coordinate. We apply the proposed method to smooth mass images of breast tissue and to detect the boundaries of extremely deformable objects. Compared to the Gaussian smoothing method performed in the Cartesian coordinate system, the proposed method stabilized the image signal while maintaining the overall radial shape of mass images. The proposed boundary detection method can detect shapes with high precision while conventional edge detectors can not accurately detect the shape of deformable objects. We also exploit the method to perform pupil detection and have had good experimental results.
영상 특성과 스켈레톤 분석을 이용한 실시간 인간 객체 추출

The object segmentation algorithm from the background could be used for object recognition and tracking, and many applications. To segment objects, this paper proposes a method that refer to several initial frames with real-time processing at fixed camera. First we suggest the probability model to segment object and background and we enhance the performance of algorithm analyzing the color consistency and focus characteristic of camera for several initial frames. We compensate the segmentation result by using human skeleton characteristic among extracted objects. Last the proposed method has the applicability for various mobile application as we minimize computing complexity for real-time video processing.

In this paper, analysis method for current collection performance based on real-time current of catenary system is proposed. An innovative method based on track-side of railway system is used for measurement of currents for overhead contact line during the collection with pantograph. The evaluation of a qualitative ratio for current collection performance were conducted using proposed algorithm under various conditions such as laboratory and track-side. To check the validity of our approach, we compared between calculation results from current of contact wire and measurement results from arcing of pantograph using simulator in laboratory conditions. The results show that the behavior of current collection performance were analysis from currents of overhead contact line in AC electric railway system.
