      • Using Automated Container Type Culture System Hericium erinaceum Mushroom Production Technology

        Time, place, and the high-tech industry to overcome barriers to the fusion of the so-called "smart agriculture" is changing the landscape of agriculture. Precision Agriculture's core temperature, humidity, location information, and summary information in real time, all significant ICT controlling technique. The system is a four-season container production for the mushroom cultivation temperature, humidity, illumination, self-regulation, such as carbon dioxide, the optimal environment for mushroom cultivation was implemented. Hericium erinaceum (also called Lion's Mane Mushroom, Bearded Tooth Mushroom, or Bearded Tooth Fungus) is an edible mushroom and medicinal mushroom in the tooth fungus group. Native to North America, Europe and Asia it can be identified by its tendency to grow all the spines out from one group (rather than branches), long spines (greater than 1 cm length) and its appearance on hardwoods. About 40 days of incubation 1.5kg oak sawdust was used as the test medium bag. The humidity was maintained more than 85~95% and temperature was 18~20°C, and CO2 density was 500~1,000ppm. The days for primordium formation showed us 6~12 days. The amount of fruitbody production was 110~260g per bag. This technique to establish new community support program in conjunction with the international movement, domestic sales and exports are also planned.

        심장혈관용 약물코팅풍선카테터의 개발 동향

        급격한 고령화 사회로의 진입과 서구화된 식습관에 의해 협심증, 심근경색증, 고혈압 등에 의한 심장질환자의 수가 5년간 10만명 이상 증가했다. 심장질환은 지난 8년간 꾸준히 국내 사망원인 2위를 기록 중이며, 이로 인해 연간 소모되는 의료비는 6조원에 달한다. 증가한 환자와 함께 다양한 치료법이 제시되고 있는 가운데, 현재 보편화 된 관상동맥 중재시술 중 스텐트 삽입술의 단점인 재협착이나 장기간 이중항혈소판제 복용으로 인한 출혈의 위험 증가 등의 문제점을 보완하기 위해 약물코팅풍선카테터가 개발되어 점차 상용화되고 있는데, 국내에선 2010년 ‘SeQuent Please<sup>Ⓡ</sup> (비브라운코리아)’라는 제품이 처음 출시되면서 약물코팅풍선카테터를 사용한 시술이 시작되었고, 이후 2012년 보험급여가 적용되면서 그 사용량이 본격적으로 늘어났다. 약물코팅풍선치료는 국내뿐만 아니라 전 세계적으로 사용이 증가하고 있는데, 특히 일본을 포함한 아시아태평양 지역에서 그 사용량이 급격히 증가하고 있다. 현재까지 국산 제품의 수요가 증가하고 있는 상황이며 향후, 동물시험 및 임상시험에서의 성능이 입증된다면 위험성이 높은 스텐트 삽입술에 비해 효과적인 시술이 될 것이라 예상한다. As a result of the rapid entry into an aging society and westernized eating habits, the number of heart disease patients caused by angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, and high blood pressure has increased by more than 100,000 over five years. Heart disease has consistently ranked second in the cause of death in Korea over the past eight years, and medical expenses consumed annually reach 6 trillion won. While various treatments are being proposed for more patients, drug-coated balloon catheters have been developed and gradually commercialized to solve the disadvantages of stent implantation such as restenosis and increased risk of bleeding due to long-term double antiplatelet medication. In Korea, it began to use a drug-coated balloon catheter with the first release of it called “SeQuent Please<sup>Ⓡ</sup> (Bibrown Korea)” in 2010. Its demand increased gradually as insurance benefits were applied in 2012. Drug-coated balloon angioplasty is increasing in use not only in Korea but also around the world, especially in the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan. Until now, the demand for domestic products is increasing, and if the efficiency in vivo and clinical trials is proven in the future, it is expected to be an effective procedure compared to high-risk stent implantation.

        Growth Inhibition of Colon Cancer through Inactivation of STAT3 Pathway by IL-10 and IL-1ra Released from Murine Macrophage

        The objective of this study was to determine the effect of macrophages on growth of human colon cancer cells. The results showed that co-culture of colon cancer cells with macrophages inhibited the growth of colon cancer cells (HCT116 and SW620) depending on the number of macrophages, RAW 264.7 cells, and activated THP-1 cells accompanied by down regulation of pSTAT3 in cancer cells. We also found that expression and release of cancer cell growth inhibitory cytokines, IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) and IL-10, was increased in macrophages. Blocking of the STAT3 pathway with specific inhibitor and siRNA of STAT3 abolished the growth of colon cancer cells and expression of IL-1ra and IL-10. In addition, neutralization of IL-1ra and IL-10 with antibodies resulted in reversal of macrophage-induced inhibition of cancer cell growth. These data showed that IL-1ra and IL-10 released from macrophages inhibit growth of colon cancer cells through inhibition of the STAT3 pathway

        일부 농촌지역 재가 장애인의 요구도 분석

        The survey was conducted with participation of the 289 handicapped persons residing at the rural area OOeup-gun in Kyungbook for the period of March 2 - May 31, 2006, to study the nature in general of the handicapped and the boundaries of their need. For the nature in general of the handicapped, the study was done by gender iscrimination, age, marital status, religion, educational level, occupation, monthly income, disability cause, disabled duration, disability type, disability level. For the boundaries of their need, the study was done by demand of financial support, educational demand, demand of voluntary workers, need of rehabilitation and medical treatment, job training, improvement of living conditions, or so. Using the Win.SPSS program, we made a frequency analysis and conclusions on the nature in general of the handicapped and the boundaries of their need on a 2-test. Conclusions are : 1. Nature in general of the handicapped The existence of the handicapped shows high at the age over 51 (71.6%), male-handicapped (65.1%), primary school graduates (62.9%), farming engaging (65.2%), monthly income less than one million Won (80.5%), cause by disease (53.8%), duration more than 10 years (61.6%), disability at level 3 (39.8%), extremity disability (66.4%). 2. Correlation of nature in general with demand of the handicapped a. In demanding the financial support, support for helper’s compensation shows high (p<0.05). In demanding the necessity of voluntary workers, the male-handicapped appears high during the absence of family assistance and the female-handicapped appears differently per week and also appears high during the absence of family assistance (p<0.05). b. In educational demand of the handicapped by their age, the age below 30 demands technical-job training and the age over 31 demands medical education for health care (p<0.01). c. In demanding the financial support by educational level, support for living cost shows high (p<0.05). d. In demanding improvement of living conditions by postnatal cause of disability, improvement of house structure shows high (p<0.05). e. In demanding assistance of voluntary workers by disabled duration, "No Need" shows high in the disabled duration more than 4 years (p<0.05). f. In demanding rehabilitation and medical treatment by disability type, home-visiting treatment, oriental medical treatment and physical therapy show high (p<0.001). g. In educational demand by disability level, medical education for health care shows high (p<0.01).

      • Farmers' Cohort for Agricultural Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (FARM) Study: Study Design, Methods, and Baseline Characteristics of Enrolled Subjects

        <P>Background: The ongoing Farmers' Cohort for Agricultural Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders (FARM) study was developed to evaluate health status and related factors in farmers. Methods: Farmers in Kangwon Province, South Korea, were recruited. Baseline characteristics were determined using questionnaires about sociodemographic and health characteristics and agricultural work-related factors. In addition, laboratory examinations (lumbar spinal radiography and serologic testing) were conducted. Results: The FARM study covers eight rural areas and recruited 1013 subjects (534 women; mean [standard deviation {SD}] age, 57.2 [7.5] years). Musculoskeletal pain in multiple areas was reported by 925 subjects (91.3%), and low back pain (63.8%) was the most frequent site of pain. Farmer's Stress Inventory (mean [SD], 77.7 [10.2]; range, 28-112] and subjective stress index (mean [SD], 5.3 [2.4]; range, 0-10) were above median scale values, reflecting a stressful condition, while the EuroQol-5D-3L index and the EuroQol-Visual Analog Scale scores were high (mean [SD], 0.9 [0.1]; range -0.171-1 and mean [SD], 67.7 [18.7]; range 0-100, respectively), reflecting good life quality. In total, 53% of participants had worked in farming for more than 30 years, and workers involved in dry-field farming comprised the largest subgroup (41.5%). Most participants (94.3%) had no more than a high school education, and families with annual income below 20 million won constituted the largest subgroup (36.3%). Conclusions: The FARM study may provide data on the current health status and related sociodemographic and agricultural work-related risk factors in Korean farmers, with the goal of providing a scientific basis for developing coping interventions and preventive strategies.</P>

      • Near-IR Fluorescent Tracer for Glucose-Uptake Monitoring in Live Cells

        <P>Fluorescent tracers for glucose-uptake monitoring could be used as chemical tools for diagnosis and for discovery of novel therapeutic agents via the development of phenotypic screening systems. Here we present a new near-infrared fluorescent glucose tracer, Glc-SiR-CO<SUB>2</SUB>H, for monitoring the cellular glucose uptake. By conjugating glucosamine with two different silicon rhodamine fluorochromes, we found that the net charge of fluorochromes has considerable effects on cellular uptake of the probe. Competition assay with <SMALL>D</SMALL>/<SMALL>L</SMALL>-glucose as well as Western blot analysis implied GLUT-dependent uptake mechanism of this probe. Finally, Glc-SiR-CO<SUB>2</SUB>H not only differentiates cancer cells from normal cells, but also allows monitoring anticancer effects in live cells.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

      • Ultralow-Temperature Solution-Processed Aluminum Oxide Dielectrics via Local Structure Control of Nanoclusters

        <P>Oxide dielectric materials play a key role in a wide range of high-performance solid-state electronics from semiconductor devices to emerging wearable and soft bioelectronic devices. Although several previous advances are noteworthy, their typical processing temperature still far exceeds the thermal limitations of soft materials, impeding their wide utilization in these emerging fields. Here, we report an innovative route to form highly reliable aluminum oxide dielectric films using an ultralow-temperature (<60 degrees C) solution process with a class of oxide nanocluster precursors. The extremely low-temperature synthesis of oxide dielectric films was achieved by using low-impurity, bulky metal-oxo-hydroxy nanoclusters combined with a spatially controllable and highly energetic light activation process. It was noteworthy that the room-temperature light activation process was highly effective in dissociating the metal-oxo-hydroxy clusters, enabling the formation of a dense atomic network at low temperature. The ultralow-temperature solution-processed oxide dielectrics demonstrated high breakdown field (>6 MV cm(-1)), low leakage (similar to 1 X 10(-8) A cm(-2) at 2 MV cm(-1)), and excellent electrical stability comparable to those of vacuum-deposited and high temperature-processed dielectric films. For potential applications of the oxide dielectrics, transparent metal oxides and carbon nanotube active devices as well as integrated circuits were implemented directly on both ultrathin polymeric and highly stretchable substrates.</P>

      • In silico identification of viruses and viroids infecting grapevine cultivar cabernet sauvignon using a grapevine transcriptome

        <P>Next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based studies have reported a large amount of transcriptome data. In fact, plant transcriptome data sometimes contain sequence reads associated with viruses and viroids. Recently, we screened several grapevine transcriptomes to identify viruses and viroids that infect grapevine and we selected a transcriptome of the grapevine cultivar Cabernet Sauvignon for an in silico data analysis. After de novo assembly of raw data, the obtained contigs were blasted against a virus reference database. We identified five viruses and two viroids that infected the grapevine. We discovered that 2.16% of the transcriptome was comprised of viral RNAs, with more than half of the viral reads deriving from grapevine rupestris stem pitting-associated virus. However, the RNA populations of the two viroids were more than half of the total viral population based on the viral RNA copy number. Moreover, we identified single nucleotide polymorphisms for each virus and viroid and performed phylogenetic analyses. Taken together, we report the successful application of plant transcriptome data using bioinformatics analyses in the identification of five viruses and two viroids in the grapevine cultivar Cabernet Sauvignon, which is one of the most important grapevine cultivars in the world.</P>

        Isolation of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus from a Patient of the 2015 Korean Outbreak

        <P>During the 2015 outbreak of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) in Korea, 186 persons were infected, resulting in 38 fatalities. We isolated MERS-CoV from the oropharyngeal sample obtained from a patient of the outbreak. Cytopathic effects showing detachment and rounding of cells were observed in Vero cell cultures 3 days after inoculation of the sample. Spherical virus particles were observed by transmission electron microscopy. Full-length genome sequence of the virus isolate was obtained and phylogenetic analyses showed that it clustered with clade B of MERS-CoV.</P>
