      • Fault Diagnosis Model Based on Multi-level Information Fusion for CNC Machine Tools

        The difficulty of CNC machine tools fault diagnosis is bigger than other general equipments because of the complex structure and the coupling among subsystems. The fault diagnosis model based on multi-level information fusion and hybrid intelligence is studied to improve reliability of fault diagnosis. Information from built-in sensors is used to monitor the status of CNC machine tools. The diagnosis principles of internal parameters-motor current, torque, temperature and following error are analyzed. Internal information and external sensors are two main sources which provide data to diagnosis. In order to detect effective fault signal, features of time domain, frequency domain and time-frequency domain are extracted. All these features constitute the feature set. The features are selected by the method of Kernel Principal Component Analysis (KCPA). Then the sensitive feature set is obtained. The method of multiple classifier fusion based on fuzzy comprehensive evaluation is researched. The determination method of weight based on information entropy is proposed. This diagnosis model has been tested feed system mechanical fault diagnosis of CNC machine tools and the results show which is effective and versatile.

      • Interventional Therapy for Renal Artery Pseudoaneurysms

        The aim of this study was to explore the angiographic diagnosis and embolization therapy for renal artery pseudoaneurysms due to acute urinary tract hemorrhage after conservative medical management failed. Seven out of ten cases had fever symptoms after the kidney surgery. The pseudoaneurysms were treated with gelatin sponge and (or) spring coil and the majority demonstrated rapid blockage of hemorrhage. Angiography diagnosis and trans catheter embolization are rapid, safe and effective methods for diagnosis and treatment of renal artery pseudoaneurysms.

        A Case of Sarcoidosis That Improved upon Discontinuation of Etanercept

        A 31-year-old man who had been prescribed etanercept over a 3-year period for treatment of ankylosing spondylitis presented with newly developed dry cough, chills, myalgia, and weight loss. Chest computed tomography showed multiple reticulonodular pulmonary infiltrates and bilateral mediastinal, hilar, and peribronchial lymphadenopathy. Biopsy of a paratracheal lymph node revealed chronic granulomatous inflammation without necrosis, and the serum angiotensin-converting enzyme level was elevated. Sarcoidosis was diagnosed. His laboratory and radiological findings, and clinical symptoms improved only after discontinuation of etanercept without treatment. Although etanercept-induced sarcoidosis is rare, this case report suggests that sarcoidosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of patients treated with the tumor necrosis factor inhibitor.         Effects of Level of Consciousness on Urodynamic Procedure in Female Cats

        Urodynamic evaluation is an invasive and uncomfortable procedure that can cause physical distress and is difficult to perform in uncooperative patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of consciousness on urodynamic evaluation in an animal model. Repeated cystometry, electromyogram, and measurement of serum cortisol concentrations were performed in female cats under conscious (CON), conscious sedation (CS) and deep anesthesia (DA) conditions. Urodynamic evaluation showed that there were no statistical differences in maximum detrusor pressure or bladder capacity observed among the three conditions. Under the DA condition, but not the CON and CS conditions, bladder contraction was accompanied by an un-relaxed anal sphincter. Residue urine volume significantly increased in the DA condition compared to the CON and CS conditions. The levels of serum cortisol significantly increased after performing urodynamic evaluation under the CON condition, whereas these levels were not significantly increased under the CS and DA conditions. This study showed that conscious sedation has no adverse effects on the urodynamic variables, and that it significantly reduces distress in cats undergoing the examination. These results may provide novel insights for performing urodynamic studies in uncooperative patients.

        <P>Video applications using mobile wireless devices are a challenging task due to the limited capacity of batteries. The higher complex functionality of video decoding needs high resource requirements. Thus, power efficient control has become more critical design with devices integrating complex video processing techniques. Previous works on power efficient control in video decoding systems often aim at the low complexity design and not explicitly consider the scalable impact of subfunctions in decoding process, and seldom consider the relationship with the features of compressed video date. This paper is dedicated to developing an energy-scalable video decoding (ESVD) strategy for energy-limited mobile terminals. First, ESVE can dynamically adapt the variable energy resources due to the device aware technique. Second, ESVD combines the decoder control with decoded data, through classifying the data into different partition profiles according to its characteristics. Third, it introduces utility theoretical analysis during the resource allocation process, so as to maximize the resource utilization. Finally, it adapts the energy resource as different energy budget and generates the scalable video decoding output under energy-limited systems. Experimental results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed approach.</P>

        Moth-Flame Optimization-Based Maximum Power Point Tracking for Photovoltaic Systems Under Partial Shading Conditions

        This paper presents a moth-flame optimization (MFO)-based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) method for photovoltaic (PV) systems. The MFO algorithm is a new optimization method that exhibits satisfactory performance in terms of exploration, exploitation, local optima avoidance, and convergence. Therefore, the MFO algorithm is quite suitable for solving multiple peaks of PV systems under partial shading conditions (PSCs). The proposed MFO-MPPT is compared with four MPPT algorithms, namely the perturb and observe (P&O)-MPPT, incremental conductance (INC)-MPPT, particle swarm optimization (PSO)-MPPT and whale optimization algorithm (WOA)-MPPT. Simulation and experiment results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can extract the global maximum power point (MPP) with greater tracking speed and accuracy under various conditions.

        Evaluation of Liver Metastases Using Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound: Enhancement Patterns and Influencing Factors

        Background/Aims: To evaluate the enhancement patterns of liver metastases and their influencing factors using dynamic contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS). Methods: A total of 240 patients (139 male and 101 female; 58.5±11.2 years of age) diagnosed with liver metastases in our hospital were enrolled in this study to evaluate tumor characteristics using CEUS. A comparison of enhancement patterns with tumor size and primary tumor type was performed using the chi-square test. The differences between quantitative variables were evaluated with the independent-sample t-test and one-way analysis of variance. Results: The enhancement patterns of liver metastases on CEUS were categorized as diffuse homogeneous hyperenhancement (133/240, 55.4%), rim-like hyperenhancement (80/240, 33.3%), heterogeneous hyperenhancement (10/240, 4.2%), and isoenhancement (17/240, 7.1%). There were significant differences in the enhancement patterns during the arterial phase based on the nodule size (p=0.001). A total of 231 of the nodules showed complete washout during the portal phase, and 237 nodules were hypoenhanced during the delayed phase. The washout time was correlated with tumor vascularity, with a longer washout time observed in hypervascular metastases compared to hypovascular metastases (p=0.033). Conclusions: Diffuse homogeneous hyperenhancement followed by rapid washout was the most common enhancement pattern of liver metastases on CEUS and was affected by the nodule size and tumor vascularity. Small metastases were prone to show diffuse homogeneous hyperenhancement. Hypervascular metastases showed a significantly longer washout time compared to hypovascular metastases.         Steel Bridge Construction of Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge

        The 55-km-long Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge (HZMB) is the world’s longest sea-crossing bridge, connecting Hong Kong with Zhuhai and Macao at the mouth of the Pearl River Estuary in China, comprising 22.9-km-long steel bridges. HZMB is the leading steel bridge in China, with top-level manufacturing and installation technology. This paper outlines the steel bridge construction experiences of HZMB to provide comparisons for the construction of other long sea-crossing steel bridges at home or abroad. The main considerations of construction constraints, scheme selection, structural and aesthetic design of HZMB are presented, and the following points related to new strategies in the steel bridge construction of HZMB are elaborated: (1) construction quality assurance, (2) automatic manufacturing technology, (3) large segment off shore installation, (4) eco-friendly paint (content limitation of volatile organic compounds) and new multifunctional inspection gantry, and (5) Guss Mastic Asphalt steel deck pavement system. The successful implementation of those strategies shows that the steel bridge construction of HZMB promotes improvement in the overall construction and management level of the Chinese bridge industry. The advanced experience of HZMB has opened up broad prospects for the design and construction of off shore bridge engineering in China.

        A Veto Player Theory of Policymaking in Semipresidential Regimes: The Case of Taiwan’s Ma Ying-jeou Presidency

        Why did the unified government led by Taiwan’s president Ma Yingjeou experience gridlock? In this article, I answer this question by modifying the veto player theory to explain how policies are made in Taiwan’s semipresidential system, in which the president can unilaterally appoint a premier who is accountable to the national legislature. Given this constitutional design, the premier represents the president rather than the legislature, so the agenda setter is either the legislature or the president. A veto player model shows that the legislature, as a collective veto player, has the last-mover’s advantage when it sets the agenda and that the two executive heads are more likely to be incongruent if a policy has to be deliberated by the legislature. The president sets the agenda only if he can discipline the legislators in his party and the legislature is not allowed to amend an executive proposal. This theory explains why policies involving lawmaking give Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan considerable bargaining powers, even to the disadvantage of the president. These theoretical arguments are confirmed by hypothesis-based case studies and can be generalized to study other semipresidential regimes.
