Design and Clinical Test of a Passive Ultrasound Probe Holder Mechanism for Arterial Puncturing

This paper proposes a new ultrasonography guided arterial puncturing and guidewire insertion mechanism. In conventional arterial puncturing, a physician holds an ultrasound probe in one hand and a needle in the other. Due to the prolong holding of ultrasound probe in hand, physicians and sonographers face musculoskeletal disorders. Also the contact force exerted by the hand of the physician is variable. The purpose of this study is to develop a passive device that will not only hold the ultrasound probe, but also performs needle and guidewire insertion with precision and accuracy. To test the effectiveness of the device, animal experimentation has been performed. This device showed 100% successful insertion rate and the operating time has been reduced from 4.5 minutes to 3.8 minutes. The proposed ultrasound probe holder exerts a stable contact force on the skin of the patient which helps to provide a stable image.
Optimization of Flame Retardancy & Mechanical Performance of Jute-glass/Epoxy Hybrid Composites

One of the limiting factors of natural fiber composites is their lower flame retardancy (FR) and mechanicalstrength as compared to the glass and other synthetic fiber composites. In this research, FR and mechanical properties of thehybrid jute-glass/epoxy composites were optimized. In the first part, different percentages (1 %, 2 % & 3 %) of zirconiumphosphate (ZrP) particles were mixed in epoxy resin to optimize the flame retardancy and mechanical properties of jute/epoxy composites. 3 % ZrP loaded composite showed improved FR and mechanical (tensile and impact) properties followedby 2 % and 1 % respectively. In the second part, optimized percentage of ZrP particles (3 %) was used to fabricate two (02)jute-glass hybrid epoxy composites, and their mechanical (tensile, flexural and impact) and FR properties were evaluated. Hybrid (H1) samples showed better mechanical and FR properties due to presence of glass layer on the outer side ofcomposite with 3 % ZrP particles loading.

Kashmir basin situated in tectonically active area NW Himalaya is surrounded by a number of seismogenic faults. In the present study, the structures are identified using the edge enhancement filters, false colour composite and DEM derived products like shaded relief, aspect, slope, drainage network, and 3D profiling. Linear structural feature map was analysed using density, orientation, length, and subsequently correlated with geological map. The area shows highest density in NW–SE, E–W and N–S orientation, with predominance of first direction structures with trend resemblance to tectonic structures present in and around. The western flank shows high density of tectonic lineaments, the Gulmarg and Tosamaidan lineament are supported by geomorphic evidences and shows linear trend with the tectonic structures including Balapur fault (out-of-sequence fault) mapped in Pleistocene deposits and earthquake epicentres present in and around the area. These results correspond to the overall NW–SE direction of the structures resulting from the NE– SW compressional effect of the regional tectonic structures. The approach applied for extraction of structural features of tectonic origin will prove to be very crucial for further investigation in future for fault delineation, seismic and landslide hazard assessment, and mitigation measures in the region.

Various processing methods have a great impact on the physiochemical and nutritional properties of meat that are of health concern. Hence, the postmortem processing of meat by different methods is likely to intensify the potential effects on protein oxidation. The influence of meat protein oxidation on the modulation of the systemic redox status and underlying mechanism is well known. However, the effects of processed meat proteins isolated from different sources on gut microbiota, oxidative stress biomarkers, and metabolomic markers associated with metabolic syndromes are of growing interest. The application of advanced methodological approaches based on OMICS, and mass spectrometric technologies has enabled to better understand the molecular basis of the effect of processed meat oxidation on human health and the aging process. Animal studies indicate the involvement of dietary proteins isolated from different sources on health disorders, which emphasizes the impact of processed meat protein on the richness of bacterial taxa such as (Mucispirillum, Oscillibacter), accompanied by increased expression of lipogenic genes. This review explores the most recent evidences on meat processing techniques, meat protein oxidation, underlying mechanisms, and their potential effects on nutritional value, gut microbiota composition and possible implications on human health.

Owing to its captivating properties, Graphene-based materials (GMBs) have appeared as a broad-spectrumantimicrobial material and attracting scientists and researchers’ attention. By focusing on the recentadvances in the polymeric nanocomposite’sfield, current study is positioned on the graphene-basedpolymeric composites having antibiofilm and antimicrobial activities to confront the current situations ofmicrobial resistance against antibiotics and other drugs. Furthermore, this review summarizesthe influenceof different factors on the antimicrobial activities of graphene-based polymeric composites like size, shape,number of layers, concentration, dispersibility, and functionalization, and also shed the light on the possiblemode of actions of these materials. Graphene-based polymeric composites exert its antimicrobial action byphysical damages (e.g., direct sharp edges’ contact to cell membranes of bacteria, wrapping of the bacterialcell, phospholipid extraction, and photo-thermal ablation) and chemical damages (e.g. oxidative-stress andcharge transfer). Besides, this review article thoroughly describes the antimicrobial applications ofgraphene-based polymeric composites, which are because of their good biocompatibility and superiorantimicrobial properties such as wound bandages and dressings, antimicrobial coatings, drug delivery, foodpackaging, hydrogel formation, and water disinfection. Present review may stimulate major concerns, spurfurther developments, and provide valuable insight into the promisingfields.

Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) is an electro-clinical syndrome composed of the triad of mental retardation, multiple seizure types, and the characteristic generalized slow spike-wave complexes in the electroencephalogram. In this article, we report on two patients with LGS whose brain magnetic resonance imaging showed dysgenesis of corpus callosum (CC). We discuss the role of CC in the genesis of secondary bilateral synchrony.

Component Alignment in Simultaneous Bilateral versus Unilateral Total Knee Arthroplasty

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate differences in component alignment between first and second knees in simultaneous bilateral total knee arthroplasty (SBTKA) and unilateral TKA (UTKA).Materials and Methods: 274 SBTKAs and 198 UTKAs were included in study. Patients were divided into three groups as SBTKA on the right knee (group A), SBTKA on the left knee (group B) and UTKA (group C). Femoral and tibial component alignment was checked in both coronal plane (alpha [α] and beta [β] angles) and sagittal plane (gamma [γ] and delta [δ] angles) radiographs.Results: There were no statistically significant differences among groups in the preoperative anatomical varus angle and Kellgren–Lawrence gonarthrosis classification grade (p=0.139 and p=0.329, respectively). In the coronal plane, the alignment of femoral component (α angle) and tibial component (β angle) was similar in all three groups (α angle, 95.01 vs. 95.14 vs. 94.9, p=0.945; β angle, 90.03 vs. 89.67 vs. 89.98, p=0.483). The sagittal plane alignment of femoral component (γ angle) and tibial component (δ angle) did not show significant differences (γ angle, 7.04 vs. 6.98 vs. 7.00, p=0.132; δ angle, 86.56 vs. 87.41 vs. 86.73, p=0.610).Conclusions: The angular alignment of components was similar between SBTKA and UTKA.
