Association of Circulating Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor with Cognition among Adult Obese Population

Ravi Babu Katuri,Girwar Singh Gaur,Jaya Prakash Sahoo,Zachariah Bobby,Karthik Shanmugavel 대한비만학회 2021 The Korean journal of obesity Vol.30 No.2

Background: Obesity has a strong association with the risk of developing cognitive impairment and dementia at a later age. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its receptor appear to be important components in cognitive function and are also involved in energy homeostasis. The level of circulating BDNF and its association with cognition has yet to be delineated clearly. In this work we studied the association of circulating BDNF with cognition among the adult obese population. Methods: The study involved 132 healthy participants between 18 and 40 years of age and of both sexes. The participants were categorized into an obesity group (n=66) and a non-obese group (n=66) based on their body mass index (Asian criteria). The level of cognitive performance was assessed by the event-related potentials P300 (ERPs-P300), mini-mental state examination (MMSE), both visual and auditory reaction times (VRT and ART, respectively), and other pen and paper tests related to memory and executive function. Serum BDNF, glycemic and lipid profiles were estimated. Results: We found significant differences in the ERPs-P300 latency (P<0.001) and amplitude (P=0.002) between the non-obese and obese group. The MMSE score was significantly reduced while VRT (P=0.005) and ART (P=0.001) were larger in the obese group. BDNF levels (P<0.001) were significantly reduced and negatively associated with the obese group. ERPs-P300 latency was negatively associated (r=–0.674, P=0.001) whereas amplitude (r=0.507, P<0.001) was positively associated with the BDNF levels in the adult obese population. Conclusion: We found reduced circulating BDNF levels in obese adults and that lower BDNF levels were strongly associated with cognitive decline in the obese adult population.

Expiration-Day Effects on Index Futures: Evidence from Indian Market

Ravi Kumar SAMINENI,Raja Babu PUPPALA,Ramesh MUTHANGI,Syamsundar KULAPATHI 한국유통과학회 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.11

Nifty Bank Index has started trading in futures and options (F&O) segment from 13th June 2005 in National Stock Exchange. The purpose of the study is to enhance the literature by examining expiration effect on the price volatility and price reversal of Underlying Index in India. Historical data used for the current study primarily comprise of daily close prices of Nifty Bank which is the only equity sectoral index in India which is traded in derivatives market and its Future contract value is derived from the underlying CNX Bank Index during the period 1st January 2010 till 31st March 2020. To check stationarity of the data, Augmented Dicky Fuller test was used. The study employed ARMA- EGARCH model for analysing the data. The empirical results revealed that there is no effect on the mean returns of underlying Index and EGARCH (1,1) model furthermore shows there is existence of leverage effect in the Bank Index i.e., negative shocks causes more fluctuations in the Index than positive news of similar magnitude. The outcome of the study specifies that there is no effect on volatility on the underlying sectoral index due to expiration days and also observed no price reversal effect once the expiration days are over.

Zinc oxide nanotips growth by controlling vapor deposition on substrates

        Babu, Eadi Sunil,Saravanakumar, B.,Ravi, G.,Yuvakkumar, R.,Ganesh, V.,Guduru, Ramesh K.,Kim, Sungjin Springer-Verlag 2018 Journal of materials science Materials in electron Vol.29 No.8

<P>ZnO nanotips structure fabrication was undertaken through controlled growth by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. Substrate position and deposition time role was investigated systematically by controlling the parameters such as temperature, flow rate, and growth pressure. The obtained result showed that ZnO nanorods undergo a sharp regrowth process with increase in ZnO vapor availability in the CVD reactor. The surface morphology and structural properties were investigated by using field-emission scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The grown nanostructures were used for gas sensor fabrication to detect and to study the sensitivity effects of H-2 and CO.</P>

A Study on Unfolding Asymmetric Volatility: A Case Study of National Stock Exchange in India

Ravi Kumar SAMINENI,Raja Babu PUPPALA,Syamsundar KULAPATHI,Shiva Kumar MADAPATHI 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.4

The study aims to find the asymmetric effect in National Stock Exchange in which the Nifty50 is considered as proxy for NSE. A return can be stated as the change in value of a security over a certain time period. Volatility is the rate of change in security value. It is an arithmetical assessment of the dispersion of yields of security prices. Stock prices are extremely unpredictable and make the investment in equities risky. Predicting volatility and modeling are the most profuse areas to explore. The current study describes the association between two variables, namely, stock yields and volatility in equity market in India. The volatility is measured by employing asymmetric GARCH technique, i.e., the EGARCH (1,1) tool, which was used in building the study. The closing prices of Nifty on day-to-day basis were used for analysis from the period 2011 to 2020 with 2,478 observations in the study. The model arrests the lopsided volatility during the mentioned period. The outcome of asymmetric GARCH model revealed the subsistence of leverage effect in the index and confirms the impact of conditional variance as well. Furthermore, the EGARCH technique was evidenced to be apt in seizure of unsymmetrical volatility.

Effect of Sulfamerazine on Structural Characteristics of Sodium Alginate Biopolymeric Films

        Yerramathi Babu Bhagath,이소연,Manjula Kola,TATA SANJAY KANNA SHARMA,Annem Muniraj Beulah,Y. Veera Manohara Reddy,박태정,박종필,Ravi Sahukari,G. Madhavi 한국생물공학회 2022 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.27 No.4

The present study was intended to describe and understand the mechanical, structural, morphological, and antimicrobial properties of sodium alginate (SA) biopolymeric films doped with sulfamerazine (SMR). Tensile strength (TS), elongation at break (E%), intermolecular interactions, crystallinity, structural integrity, and surface properties were investigated for SMR concentrations of 0.6, 1.2, and 1.8 mg/mL in the film-forming solution. The TS and E% of the various experimental films differed significantly according to the SMR concentration (p < 0.05). However, a slight reduction was observed at the highest SMR concentration (1.8 mg/mL). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction patterns revealed the reaction of the functional groups and conformational changes caused by the SMR and Ca2+ ions in the film matrix. Scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy image analysis illustrated the cross-sectional microstructure and surface roughness of the experimental films. Overall, the doping of SMR into the SA polymer matrix was proven to have a significant effect on the morphological, structural, and mechanical properties of the resulting films.

Apoptosis: role in myeloid cell development

        Shilpa Sarvothaman,Ram Babu Undi,Satya Ratan Pasupuleti,Usha Gutti,Ravi Kumar Gutti 대한혈액학회 2015 Blood Research Vol.50 No.2

Hematopoiesis is the process that generates blood cells in an organism from the pluripotent stem cells. Hematopoietic stem cells are characterized by their ability to undergo self-renewal and differentiation. The self-renewing ability ensures that these pluripotent cells are not depleted from the bone marrow niche. A proper balance between cell death and cell survival is necessary to maintain a homeostatic condition, hence, apoptosis, or programmed cell death, is an essential step in hematopoiesis. Recent studies, however, have introduced a new aspect to this process, citing the significance of the apoptosis mediator, caspase, in cell development and differentiation. Extensive research has been carried out to study the possible role of caspases and other apoptosis related factors in the developmental processes. This review focuses on the various apoptotic factors involved in the development and differentiation of myeloid lineage cells: erythrocytes, megakaryocytes, and macrophages.

Effect of ethylenediamine tetra acetic acid additive on the nucleation kinetics and growth aspects of L-arginine phosphate single crystals

        Kumar, R.Mohan,Babu, D.Rajan,Ravi, G.,Jayavel, R. The Korea Association of Crystal Growth 2003 韓國結晶成長學會誌 Vol.13 No.4

Pure and Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) doped L-arginine phosphate (LAP) single crystals were grown from the aqueous solution by temperature lowering method. The effect of EDTA additive on the solubility and metastable zone width of LAP solution has been investigated. Addition of EDTA has enhanced the metastable zone width of LAP and hence bulk crystals could be grown. The growth rate along the [100] direction increases with EDTA additive. Powder X-ray diffraction and FTIR studies reveal the absence of EDTA in the lattice of LAP, This reveals that the addition of EDTA to LAP doesn't influence the crystallinity. However, the transmittance and NLO properties significantly increase with EDTA additive and hence bulk LAP crystals are useful for laser fusion experiments.
