The Determinants of Environmental Information Disclosure in Vietnam Listed Companies

NGUYEN, Thi Le Hang,NGUYEN, Thi Thu Hien,NGUYEN, Thi Thanh Huyen,LE, Thi Hong Anh,NGUYEN, Van Cong Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.2

Environmental pollution and climate change in Vietnam are now becoming a major concern. This situation is increasing the pressure on the companies to improve their social responsibility in production and business activities and disclose the environmental information to meet the requirements of stakeholders. This study investigates the internal and external factors of the company that affects the environmental information disclosure of listed companies on the Vietnam stock market as business sector, firm size, corporate manager perceptions, profitability, financial leverage, community pressure, pressures from stakeholders, government pressure influencing environmental information disclosure. Analytical data collected through the survey of 120 listed companies on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE). By testing Cronbach's Alpha, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and logistic regression analysis, the results of the study show that the level of environmental information disclosure of listed companies on the stock market in Vietnam depends heavily on government regulations, followed by the pressure from stakeholders, community pressure, views of business managers, companies size, business sector, and particularly profitability and financial leverage factors that have a negative relationship with environmental information disclosure.

Biocompatible membrane from the natural rubber-grafted-(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) and its metal removal application

        Thu Ha Nguyen,Thi Lan Pham,Anh Quan Cao,Tuan Anh Nguyen,Xuan Minh Vu,Thi My Hanh Le,Van Thuan Le,Seiichi Kawahara,Dai Lam Tran 한국고분자학회 2024 Macromolecular Research Vol.32 No.4

This study describes the preparation and characterization of a green and safe membrane based on a natural polymer for metal adsorption. Natural rubber-grafted-(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) with a special nanostructure was synthesized by graft copolymerization of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) onto the surface of natural rubber (NR) particles using tert-butylhydroperoxide/tetraethylenepentamine as initiators. Optimal conditions for achieving high conversion and grafting efficiency were identified. Characterization of the as-synthesized samples was performed using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, tensile measurement, swelling degree determination, and cytotoxicity testing. The results revealed that HEMA formed a nanoscale matrix surrounding NR particles, which improved the tensile strength, thermal resistance, and swelling degree of the as-prepared samples. Cytotoxicity testing demonstrated that the membrane was safe for human use, as it did not exhibit toxicity to Vero cells at concentrations up to 1024 μg/mL. Furthermore, the membrane displayed a high adsorption capacity toward Fe3+ and was well described by Koble-Corrigan isotherm model and the first–second-order kinetic equation. Moreover, the membrane demonstrated excellent recyclability maintaining its adsorption ability towards Fe3+ ions over five consecutive cycles. Overall, these findings may recommend the NR-HEMA membrane as a promising candidate for metal removal applications.

The Impact of Corporate Greenwashing Behavior on Consumers’ Purchase Intentions of Green Electronic Devices: An Empirical Study in Vietnam

Thi Thu Huong NGUYEN,Kieu Oanh NGUYEN,Tuan Khanh CAO,Viet Anh LE 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.8

The environment friendly lifestyle and the green product trend have motivated corporates to develop and adopt sustainable business practices. However, an increasing number of corporations have engaged in greenwashing practices to create the appearance of environmental responsibility. By employing the theory of reasoned action, the paper investigated a model linking corporate greenwashing and consumers’ green purchase intentions with the mediating role of green trust and green word-of-mouth about green electronic devices in Vietnam. Using an online survey via Email, Zalo, and Wechat, data was obtained from 308 Vietnamese consumers who have been purchasing green electronic devices. Based on the responses of the participants from the questionnaires conducted, data analysis was conducted by using SEM in AMOS version 23. This investigation shows that corporate greenwashing negatively affects consumers’ green trust, green word-of-mouth, and their green buying intentions. Additionally, the paper verifies that green trust and green word-of-mouth mediate the relationships between greenwashing and consumers’ green purchase intentions. These results reinforce the extant understanding of greenwashing and its consequences. Finally, the study not only stimulates future research but serves as a reference for business managers, scholars, and students who are interested on the topic of environmental sustainability, new product development, and green brands.

Effect of salicylic acid and yeast extract on curcuminoids biosynthesis gene expression and curcumin accumulation in cells of Curcuma zedoaria

Nguyen Hoang Loc,Truong Thi Phuong Lan,Nguyen Duc Huy,Nguyen Ngoc Luong,Hoang Tan Quang,Trinh Huu Tan,Le Thi Anh Thu,Nguyen Xuan Huy 한국식물생명공학회 2019 JOURNAL OF PLANT BIOTECHNOLOGY Vol.46 No.3

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of yeast extract (YE) and salicylic acid (SA) on the expression of curcuminoid-biosynthesis genes (CzDCS and CURS1-3), and accumulation of curcumin in Curcuma zedoaria cell cultures. The results showed that, in cells treated with YE or SA, the expression levels of curcuminoid genes were 1.14- to 3.64-fold higher than the control (untreated cells), in which the YE exhibited a stronger effect in comparison with SA. Curcumin accumulation also tended to be similar to gene expression, curcumin contents in YE- or SA-treated cells were 1.61- to 2.53-fold higher than the control. The SA treatment at the fifth day of culture stimulated the curcumin accumulation and expression in all four genes compared to that at the beginning. While the YE treatments gave different results, the CzCURS1 and CzCURS3 genes were expressed strongly in cells that were treated at the beginning. However, the CzDCS and CzCURS2 genes showed the opposite expression pattern, they were activated strongly in the treatments at day five of the culture. However, the content of curcumin reached its maximum value on the fifth day of culture in all investigations.

      • Bioconversion of propane to propanol using recombinant Escherichia coli as a biocatalyst

( Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep ),이은열,이은정,황인엽,( Nguyen Thi Thu ),( Nguyen Duc Anh ) 한국공업화학회 2016 한국공업화학회 연구논문 초록집 Vol.2016 No.0

Methylocella silvestris BL2 is a facultative methanotroph that has a unique ability to grow on methane and to utilize various multi-carbon compounds. M. silvestris BL2 is able to grow on propane by the presence and expression of two gene clusters including a soluble monooxygenase and a putative propane monooxygenase (PrMO) that can convert propane to propanol. In this research, the whole gene cluster of PrMO from M. silvestris BL2 including native promoter and noncoding region was amplified by PCR and successfully cloned into broad host range vector for expression in Escherichia coli. The recombinant E. coli that heterologously expressed PrMO was found to oxidize propane at both terminal and sub-terminal positions as resulting in formation of 1-propanol and 2-propanol, respectively.

The present paper introduces a facile and cost-effective route for the direct dispersion of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in DNA solution. Their application in detecting Escherichia coli O157:H7using DNA biosensorwas demonstrated. The dispersion state of theMWCNTswas characterized via UVeVis spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and field emission scanning electron microscopy. The interaction between DNA sequence and the MWCNTs was investigated using Raman spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. As-obtainedMWCNT solutionwas used in the preparation of DNA sensor. Results revealed that the developed DNA sensor can detect a DNA target as low as 1 nM in a buffer solution. The sensitivity of the DNA sensor reached approximately 0.19 nM/mV. The effect of dispersion parameters, including pH values, DNA concentration, ion strength, and sonication time, on sensor response was also studied. TheDNA sensor can respondwell to 120 min of sonication time, a pH value of 9, and 20 mM of DNA sequence concentration. The results of the present study showed a potential application of the DNA sensor in the detection of Escherichia coli O157:H7.

      • Heterologous expression and functional analysis of methanol and formaldehyde-assimilating enzymes in type I methanotrophs

( Nguyen Duc Anh ),( Nguyen Thi Thu ),( Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep ),황인엽,이은열 한국공업화학회 2016 한국공업화학회 연구논문 초록집 Vol.2016 No.0

Natural one-carbon metabolic pathways in native hosts such as methylotrophs have recently been reconstructed in non-native hosts mainly in methanol. Engineering strategy for methanol bioconversion was the implementation of NAD-dependent methanol dehydrogenase (MDH) and co-expressing two key enzymes in ribulose monophosphate cycle (RuMP) were hexulose-6-phosphate synthase (Hps) and 6-phospho-3-hexuloisomerase (Phi). MDH and several Hps-Phi gene clusters as well as artificial fusion forms from different type I methanotrophs were cloned and screened. As a results, in vitro activity of mdh and Hps-Phi were detected. The data provided new opportunities for reconstruction of methanol metabolic pathway from methanotrophs into non-native hosts.

Foreign Direct Investment -Small and Medium Enterprises Linkages and Global Value Chain Participation: Evidence from Vietnam

NGUYEN, Thi Minh Thu,NGUYEN, Thi Tuong Anh,NGUYEN, Thi Thuy Vinh,PHAM, Huong Giang Korea Distribution Science Association 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.3

Using a multinomial logit model with the panel-data set of Vietnam manufacturing firms, this paper investigates the impacts of foreign direct investment (FDI) - small and medium enterprises (SMEs) linkages and other factors on SMEs' participation in the global value chain (GVC). We consider GVC firms are those engaging in any of the three modes including (i) using domestic inputs to export (D2E), (ii) using imported inputs to produce for the domestic market (I2P), (iii) using imported inputs to export (I2E). We discover that FDI-SME linkages statistically encourage Vietnamese SMEs to integrate into the GVC via I2P and I2E, while no statistical association between FDI-SME linkage and D2E participation is found. GVCs participation likelihood is also positively correlated with the introduction of new product introduction. The establishment of firms' production facilities in industrial zones and foreign ownership are both reported to be significantly decisive factors to SMEs' decisions on GVC participation. Besides, there is a strong association between firms' attributes, i.e. employment, capital intensity as well as financial access, and their participation in the GVC. Local governance quality (proxied by the Provincial Competitiveness Index) and the share of skilled labor at the province-level can facilitate firms' integration into GVCs, while greater market concentration may be a hurdle to such potential.

Determinants Influencing Entrepreneurial Intention among Undergraduates in Universities of Vietnam

BUI, Thi Hong Viet,NGUYEN, Thi Le Thuy,TRAN, Manh Dung,NGUYEN, Thi Anh Thu Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.7

The paper aims to identify the determinants that influence entrepreneurial intention among National Economics University graduates. For the sample size, we conducted a questionnaire survey of 250 full-time third-year undergraduates at the National Economics University, with convenience sampling technique. Of those 250 undergraduates, 150 were Business Administration students and 100 Economy Management students. After eliminating invalid responses due to lack of information or low quality information, 215 responses were used (93.07% of respondents) for data analysis. The results show that the factor "Perceived desirability" has the strongest impact on the intention to start a business. It is followed by the factor "Perceived feasibility" in which the "ability to search and plan for start-up" has a stronger influence on undergraduates' entrepreneurial intention than the "leadership and ability to overcome adversity". The hypothesis of a positive relationship between undergraduates' propensity to act and their intention to start a business is also supported in this study. Based on the results, we suggest some recommendations for the university and State management agencies to nurture and develop entrepreneurial intention of undergraduates, forming the young generation of potential entrepreneurs to contribute to the development of emerging countries such as Vietnam, the case study.
