Experimental Research for Performance and Noise of Small Axial Fan
Ito, Takahiro,Minorikawa, Gaku,Fan, Qinyin Korean Society for Fluid machinery 2009 International journal of fluid machinery and syste Vol.2 No.2
Small axial fans have become widely used as cooling devices in recent years. Because of their increasing importance, studies have been conducted on ways to improve the performance and reduce the noise of such fans. In this report, a small axial fan with a diameter of 85 mm (a type popularity used in personal computer or workstation) was selected for further examination. The influence on aerodynamic performance and noise of such frame design parameters as blade tip clearance results in a decrease of discrete frequency noise and an increase of broad-spectrum noise. As for the most suitable design refinement in terms of fan efficiency, we found that the treatment of outlet corner roundness and altering spoke skew to the direction counter to that of fan rotation was effective.

Industry-academia-government collaboration activities of the University of Tokushima started in 1991 when its Regional Joint Research Center was set up. Since then, the university developed the organization and activities concerning industry-academia-government collaboration. Number of the staff member has been increased since then from one person at first to 33 at present and the activities were strengthened remarkably and became extensive. This paper describes our basic policies, outline of major activities; Technology Licensing, Research Promotion, Intellectual Property Management, and Information Management and Utilization, and outline of a technology matching system called TPAS-Net that helps and facilitates industry-academia-government collaboration activities. Then it shows our human resources development program that was introduced in 2005 to secure leading engineers for local companies. The program consists of three courses: Production Management Course, Advanced Technology Course and Internship Course. The outline of these courses and the result of the training are explained. Finally the content of a subject on simulation and modeling is presented briefly as an example of the development program.
Complex Epidemiology of Prostate Cancer in Asian Countries
Kagenori Ito,Takahiro Kimura 대한비뇨기종양학회 2023 대한비뇨기종양학회지 Vol.21 No.1
The incidence of prostate cancer (PCa) has increased worldwide in recent years along with the recommendation for prostate-specific antigen testing, and mortality has been declining owing to advances in fragmented and simplified access to treatment care. However, GLOBOCAN (Global Cancer Observatory) data show that this result is not true for all countries. It has been reported that the degree of PCa progression at diagnosis and survival rates differ among racial groups. Based on various comparisons between Caucasians and Asians, it was inferred that survival rates were higher in Asians despite the higher degree of progression at diagnosis, suggesting a better prognosis for life compared with Caucasians. The survey among Asian countries did not reveal any obvious differences among Asian subregions; rather, it inferred that the impact of the level of development among the countries was significant. The development of healthcare systems and medical care could improve PCa survival in developing countries.
Adjustable High Frequency Quasi-Resonant Inverter for Induction Heating
Saso, Kazuki,Ito, Takahiro,Ishimaru, Yusuke,Matsuse, Kouki,Tsukahara, Masayoshi The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2011 The Journal of International Council on Electrical Vol.1 No.1
This paper presents the considerations of driving the Adjustable Frequency Quasi-Resonant Inverter Circuit in the high frequency. This inverter is requested to output frequency from 160kHz to 400kHz. Resonant inverter used for metalworking by the induction heating. In induction heating, high frequency can heat the shallow point, and low frequency can heat the deep point. So when heated depth is replaced, the frequency that inverter must output is different. It is necessary for the inverter to output two or more frequencies. In addition, in the heat-treatment called the hardening, only the metal surface must be heated. So, to heat-treat metal that a radius is small, it is necessary for the inverter to output high frequency. This inverter can output the frequency more than 100kHz by using Power Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor (MOSFET) as power device. The circuit includes the first resonant capacitor and second one with a one-way short-circuit switch. Because synthetic series capacitance is varied by manipulating the switch, this inverter can change a period during a half period. We confirmed this inverter can output an arbitrary frequency by the experiment.

Objective: Interest in the “at-risk mental state” (ARMS) for psychosis has increased because early intervention is expected to delay or prevent the onset of schizophrenia. However, the optimum intervention strategy remains controversial, especially with regard to antipsychotics. Although administration of antipsychotic medications is often associated with adverse effects and raises ethical considerations, recent studies have shown that some novel antipsychotics are safer and more tolerable for young people than conventional antipsychotics. We investigated whether administration of perospirone, a combined serotonin (5-HT)/dopamine antagonist and 5-HT1A receptor agonist, could alleviate prodromal symptoms and be well tolerated by clinical high risk patients. Methods: The participants were outpatients seeking help. The Structured Interview for Prodromal Symptoms was performed in patients identified as being at clinical high risk. The Scale of Prodromal Symptoms (SOPS) was also completed and changes of subjective experience were assessed with the Subjective Well-being under Neuroleptics, short version. The incidence of akathisia was recorded by using the Barnse Akathisia Scale (BAS). Subjects were monitored for 26 weeks after starting medication. Results: SOPS scores improved significantly after 26 weeks of perospirone therapy, while BAS scores did not show deterioration. No serious adverse events occurred during the study. Conclusion: This trial suggests that perospirone therapy provides a clinical benefit for clinical high risk subjects without causing serious adverse events. Although further placebo-controlled studies are needed for confirmation, perospirone might be one of optimum treatments for individuals at imminent risk of psychosis.

Purpose: Patients with pathological stage T1N+ or T2-3N0 gastric cancer may experience disease recurrence following curative gastrectomy. However, the current Japanese Gastric Cancer Treatment Guidelines do not recommend postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy for such patients. This study aimed to identify the prognostic factors for patients with pT1N+ or pT2-3N0 gastric cancer using a multi-institutional dataset. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the data obtained from 401 patients with pT1N+ or pT2-3N0 gastric cancer who underwent curative gastrectomy at 9 institutions between 2010 and 2014. Results: Of the 401 patients assessed, 24 (6.0%) experienced postoperative disease recurrence. Multivariate analysis revealed that age ≥70 years (hazard ratio [HR], 2.62; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.09-7.23; P=0.030) and lymphatic and/or venous invasion (lymphovascular invasion (LVI): HR, 7.88; 95% CI, 1.66-140.9; P=0.005) were independent prognostic factors for poor recurrence-free survival. There was no significant association between LVI and the site of initial recurrence. Conclusions: LVI is an indicator of poor prognosis in patients with pT1N+ or pT2-3N0 gastric cancer.
